Overlooking Bellingham Bay with an ever changing view to the west. This classic flat has been completely updated yet retains its 100 year old charm. Ten foot ceilings and craftsmen woodwork throughout making this a memorable getaway. Two large casement windows open wide to bring the amazing view right into the living room. Comfortably sleeping 5 with three bedrooms and two baths one featuring a giant tub with a view of the bay. The kitchen features hardwood floors, granite counters and service for up to 9. A large deck with gas BBQ adjacent to the kitchen dining area is great for outside entertaining with a private garden featuring a Koi pond. Located in a quiet semi-residential neighborhood with the Cliffhouse restaurant across the street for a meal out or just cocktails on their deck.
This rather large King crab came to dinner with a couple of his friends when we where visiting our son and his family in Korea. Most of the time we are in Bellingham maintaining the property you see in the pictures. My wife and I live in the downstairs flat.
Chris Volker purchased this house in 2000
We have owned this classic home for 17 years and have made the upper flat available as a VRBO property. It took a while to put everything in order but the work has been worth it. The photos tell it all. The flats are completely separate from each other.
Friendly, kind, and gracious hosts, who live in the flat below. Spacious, clean, comfortable, and well-appointed accommodations with outstanding views. Lovely garden in back. All the amenities you could need. We loved the special table for puzzles in the living room! Our boys really enjoyed having their own rooms and beds, and they loved meeting the resident cat, Grace. Our boys were a bit rowdy at times, which wasn't a problem at all for our hosts. There is plenty of parking out front on the street (which is safe and quiet). Some may not like having to climb the 40 steps up to the flat, but it was no problem for us with our luggage, gear and groceries. In the past, we had stayed at a nearby hotel right on the water, which also had great views, but this place was far better. We'll definitely stay here again on our next trip to Bellingham/Fairhaven.
We spent a week in this wonderful place. Can't say enough good things.
Private, great views, clean, comfortable beds. WiFi and TV worked well. Kitchen well stocked except for spices. We practically lived on the deck. The backyard is beautiful. Picked some berries and tomatoes to eat!
We walked every day. There's a path by the water that will take you to Fairhaven. It's surrounded by a park like setting. Great way to get some exercise. Lots of places to eat (one right across the street). A little more than an hour to Mt. Baker and close to 2 hours to Seattle. Took the ferries to whale watch and visit one of the San Juan islands. Lots of ferries to various areas.
The owners live downstairs and were always available if we needed anything but gave us complete privacy. They are terrific.
So if your plans take you to Northern Washington, you can't go wrong with this place. We all give it our highest rating.
My wife, teenage son and I were in town for a wedding and we stayed in this home for a long weekend. The property itself was excellent. The rooms were spacious, and the view of the bay from the living room and bedrooms was a nice touch. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.
We had a lovely time at this property. It's in a great location, half-way between Fairhaven and Bellingham proper, with a sweeping view of the harbor from the front windows. The property itself...especially the fabulous kitchen...was just fantastic. Clean and well-appointed, it was incredibly comfortable and welcoming. The outdoor space overlooked a lush garden with a koi pond; we had access to a propane grill and table and chairs for al fresco dining. The only drawback, if you can even call it that, was the number or stairs you had to climb to get to the property, but if you want a view like that, you gotta put a little sweat into it. There was plenty of parking on the street and a nice restaurant/bar right across the way. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Great location, perfect place for a family of 4. The view is fantastic and the owners very accommodating. We loved the area, and walked, rode bikes, hiked and had a wonderful time. The house really worked out for us and we'd book it again someday!
Spent a wonderful weekend with 2 girlfriends in this glorious, charming spacious upper level of the owner's home. We felt like we had total privacy. Enjoyed the deck despite the sprinkling rain. Wonderful location and definitely walkable if the weather is right...What a gem!!!
Western Washington University is 2 blocks away with downtown Bellingham and historic Fairhaven equal distance and both easily reached by the interurban trail 2 blocks below by the bay. Lots of parking on the street. The convenience of location makes it easy to get to where you want to go. Take a water taxi to the San Juan Islands from Fairhaven.
