Eight of us stayed at this cottage for a long weekend in September for a family wedding. I originally rented it because it was cheaper than renting hotel rooms for all of us but the best part was we all ended up feeling like we were on vacation rather than just going to a wedding. The cottage is light and cozy. The location is excellent with the back yard overlooking the salt marsh, a beach walking distance down the street, in a quiet neighborhood and 2 minutes from downtown. We brought our kayaks. The boat launch is only 3 houses away. We kayaked in the salt marsh every minute we could. Scott was an excellent host answering all my questions. I would most definitely recommend this property rental to anyone.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 5-night stay. I can't emphasize enough how clean and tidy this cottage is, and the owners were super responsive. If anything, the cottage had a few more amenities than expected from the description. I think the floor is brand new, which made it easy to deal with the beach sand. The kitchen was so well-equipped that we ate out just one dinner (and we bought remarkably good lobster at the local Stop & Shop). Since we had a couple days with a tropical storm, the space was just right for our group of 4 adults, although I could see easily fitting in more people if we had sun the entire time.
The bedrooms are basic, but comfortable. Each bedroom had a bed, dresser, and closet with lots of hangers. The windows gave enough ventilation during this visit, although we would have run the ceiling fans if it had been hotter at night.
The back yard is right on the salt marsh, and we loved watching the birds when the tide was running and a school of fish would go through. This would be a great place to bring a canoe or kayak.
Every day at low tide, we walked down to the beach and out on the sand bars; we lucked out with timing and had some of those walks during beautiful sunsets.
Great Hammock Beach is a place where families or friends can enjoy hanging out with each other and this cottage is perfect for that time together.
We had a great time in Old Saybrook this past week, outlet shopping, going to Mystic Aquarium, and to Hammonasset State Park. Our family includes three kids(5 and under), and three adults. The banana bread was yummy, and a welcome treat! The cottage is very easy to get to, and is in a great location. Less then a block from the water, but only a few minutes in the car to a supermarket, and restaurants. You have access to two small beaches, with areas to play in the sand, and when the tide is out you can walk on the sandbar. I'm not quite sure this is a "swimming beach", but for our purposes, it was just fine, since my kids just love playing in the sand. The backyard was big enough for my kids to run around and play, the deck is also nice with a table and chairs. There is also a charcoal bbq grill you can use if you want. The cottage is clean, and you can tell that the owners are updating it. The pictures do not do it justice. The floors in the common areas look brand new, and there is a flat panel TV in the living room. I was not expecting luxury, but was pleasently surprised at the amount of room, and furnishings. We even found a great park a couple minutes away that had a playground and spray area for the kids! The free WiFi is nice and strong, with no connectivity issues. The TV channels were limited, but with the new TV and a streaming media player (like the Amazon fire stick, Apple tv, or Roku), the options would be unlimited. Scott and Mary-Jo were excellent at maintaining communication, and we're always quick to respond. This was our family's first time renting a cottage, and it was great! We would definitely stay here again!
We needed to be able to accommodate extra family members to help celebrate a Yale graduate. Location was perfect. Everything you could need was available. The owners even left us banana bread. Nice touch. Even though it rained for most of our time there, we still enjoyed our stay. Next time, we hope to partake at the beach.
We needed weekend accomodations for our family of six for a wedding at Saybrook Point. After looking for hotels, which were ridiculously priced, I thought of looking for a cottage rental and it worked out perfectly for us. The weather was perfect, each couple had their own bedroom, the kitchen was more than adequately equipped and we did breakfast and lunch there. Our girls and their spouses enjoyed the beach and also sitting out on the back deck and we all took a family walk Saturday afternoon. Thank you Scott for opening your house to us, we loved the area and hope to return.
We will definitely stay again. Thank you to the Loveland family for the great welcome. We arrived to a very clean and comfortable cottage with a note and homemade banana bread left for us. The owners stopped by to meet us and asked if we needed anything. We felt right at home our entire stay.
