About Ellen

This has been a great place for us to vacation with our children. It has been like going to camp with them. We have enjoyed the great outdoors ! We rarely watched TV. We would play cards and board games. Just have family time and create wonderful memories!

Ellen purchased this cottage in 1997

Cozy little cabin

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is in the most delightful area. Everything was clean, people were friendly and helpful. Would love to own a cabin here.......maybe someday! The cabin is cute as can be and well equipped. Note, it does require climbing a steep hill if you have mobility issues it would be difficult. That being said, I'm old and overweight and did fine...lol Ellen was the kindest woman, she was so gracious and pleasant to deal with. We were evacuating from Hurricane Irma and she made this difficult time so much easier by working with us on arrival and departure times. Thanks again Ellen, May God bless you and yours.

Really nice cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Loved it! This is an awesome two bedroom cabin that retains some of its historic features but with a nicely updated kitchen. If you're looking for a getaway you'll be comfortable here. The cabin has wifi so that's also a plus.

Comfortable and cozy

  • 4 of 5

Overall the stay was good. When we first got there the code that was provided for the lock to get into the cabin was incorrect, if I had not had prior contact with the owner it would taken a lot longer to get in and after a 9 hour drive it was frustrating. The cabin was comfortable and cozy. Be aware that you do have to park on the street and climb the steps up the hill to get to the cabin and while that was not an issue for us anyone that does not get around so well will have problems.

Fall Stay at Bear Paw

  • 5 of 5

We thought Cozy Bear Paw Cottage was great! We were looking for a value-oriented scenic retreat for a Thanksgiving weekend, and that's exactly what we got.

The location was great, nestled among a street of small cabins once used to house the workforce that constructed the nearby Hiwassee Dam. Located just a mile away, the dam itself was really picturesque. (there are views from both the top and bottom). The cabin itself was great - very clean, very simple, and somewhat rustic. Big enough so that we weren't knocking into each other, yet small enough for a cozy weekend. The kitchen is fabulous - it's got every untensil (except a toaster), and the appliances are better than those in our apartment. We used the charcoal grill outside every night, and not just for burgers and dogs - we were even able to cook up some nice ribs. The couch was comfortable, the shower ran hot, the DirectTV never went out, and we were able to get a great night's sleep in the comfortable bed. Everything was perfect.

I would keep in mind that it does have A/C (window units in the bedrooms), and utilizes a gas heater in the living room. In fact, the *only* issue we had was with the gas heater - and it was quickly fixed by the proprietor - no problem what-so-ever. We could not get the heater to stay lit, as the gas was turned off at the main valve. No problem, even though it was a holiday, the proprietor came over and fixed the situation for us very quickly - as I said, no problem what-so-ever. After that, the heater was easy to light and use, and was plenty warm enough.

Speaking of the proprietors, they were great. They were very friendly, were very responsive to the couple questions we had before hand, promptly fixed the one issue we hand, are were very easy to do business with overall. I would definitely recommend renting from them, no problem.

This cottage exceeded our expectations.
