This cozy yet spacious Log Cabin is located right in the town of Winter Park. It sits on the mountain side, and there is a ski shuttle pickup at the end of the driveway!

Bear Claw Cabin is fully furnished, cozy and inviting. The wood logs are all original (cabin was built in 1974) and it's very cool and campy but with modern conveniences including WIFI, cable TV/DVD,VCR, gas fireplace, washer and dryer, dishwasher, all kitchen cooking accessories. We also have some interesting books to peruse, some old school games and some puzzles. (We apologize in advance if there is a missing puzzle piece or two. We don't count puzzle pieces after each guest stay.:)

The main floor/living room area is open and comfortable. Great for playing board games in front of the fire, watching movies/tv, or just hanging out and reading. The bedrooms are both upstairs and include a Master bedroom with a queen bed, and a guest/kids room with a wood bunk bed and a double size bed. There is a half bath upstairs.

Being that it's a real log cabin the stairs aren't 100% uniform in size! The handrail is there to help navigate it but just to make you aware in case you or one of your loved ones has difficulty going up/down stairs.

There is a sunny game room downstairs with a ping pong table (paddles and balls included) and this room leads to the outdoor porch which includes a gas barbecue, private fenced off deck with a new hot tub.

We also installed a deck on the back in 2015 which offers a great space to relax surrounded by aspen trees. We used TREX decking materials to protect against splinters. The deck is a really cool area to hang as its on the back of the house with a mountain view.

NOTE: We just want to express that this is an authentic, 1970's log cabin and as such has a few quirks! Most guests quickly get used to and enjoy it and the cabin has seen many repeat guests over the years but we want to make sure you are aware of some of these "quirks" before booking this property to set expectation. We like happy guests and want to make sure our property is right for you!! For example: There may be weeds / dandelions on the brick pavers near the barbecue off the deck especially in the summer time as we try to avoid spraying Roundup etc. unless necessary since we are pet and kid friendly. And sometimes a deck chair may be a little loose or a light bulb may have burned out. (We leave extra bulbs inside just in case and the cleaners check after each guest but things happen!) We also encourage guests to leave their unused but still fresh condiments (ketchup etc.) for the next guest to enjoy rather than throwing them out / causing the next guest having to run to the grocery for those items and inevitably throwing away most of them. The pantry may have sugar or cooking oil and/or other non-perishable items from previous guests for future guests to use. (Again we could throw these items out but we find most guests appreciate having those things available to have one less thing to have to buy at the store. We of course dispose of all expired items but non-expired items like these will likely be in the cabin when you arrive and are yours to utilize as you wish.

In addition - as a family friendly rental unit things do on occasion wear out and we try our best to fix items that come up but we may miss something on occasion. If you have ANY questions or concerns we encourage you to call us right away so we can assist! We want you to enjoy a wonderful stay, hopefully leave a nice review (negative reviews really bum is out:( and hopefully come back and stay with us again!! Just please keep in mind that it's a cool old cabin that's been made modern (but with older cabin quirks) and you'll have a ball!!

NOTE: Recent updates:

7.10.17: Replaced window curtains with new red (cabiny-color) curtains, glued down that pesky strip on the side of the ping pong table that was coming loose, replaced ping pong paddles and replenished supply of ping pong balls, replaced portable fans for bedrooms and hung up soft tip dart board in game room.

10.2017 New Bear Resistant Trash Shed Built to keep those pesky bears out of the trash bins! Powerwashed and stained fence, repainted trim to cabin

11.25.2017 New Carpet installed and second 1/2 bath added to the upstairs

12.13.2017 Outdated hot tub replaced with a Brand New Tuff Spa hot tub

Why Beki Hargis chose Winter Park

Scott purchased this cabin because it was unique and charming and offered a vintage cabin feel yet was updated and comfortable to hang out in. There's a ski shuttle stop right at the end of the driveway which is very convenient in the winter. We chose Winter Park because it's close to Denver (about 1.25 hours drive) and the affordable, down-to-earth, family-friendly Colorado mountain town vibe. It's not Aspen or Vail and we like it that way! The cabin, like the town itself is down to earth, casual and relaxing without fuss or pretension and a great place to get away, and unwind.

What makes this cabin unique

Bear Claw Cabin was built in 1974 and retains its original/authentic/mountain town cabin feel. It's rustic, private and quiet yet at the same time close to the town and all of its amenities. Maybe we've seen too many horror movies but we prefer being at a cabin in town rather than a cabin deep in the woods! Those are just spooky.

Spent 4 nights during the last weeks of March 2013 and was absolutely pleased in every way with these accommodations.

Found the cabin clean and even more spacious than the pictures appeared.

The location is convenient to Winter Park and Frazier and we had no trouble navigating to where we needed to go.

A big Kudo's to Kaylee who was very helpful and pleasant to work with in setting everything up and answering many questions for me.

There are several movies to watch including: Comedies, Documentaries, Thrillers, Drama, TV Series, Children's Films (Cartoons). Private Outdoor Hot Tub on deck with 6' privacy fence. Professionally maintained and cleaned after every stay.

Great Place to Stay

We really enjoyed our visit. The house was cozy and a perfect place to relax after a day of skiing. The ping pong table got more use than I thought. Fun way to spend an evening. The bus at the end of the driveway was a huge plus. We are already talking about going back.

Perfect for a Family of Four

So charming, everything we needed. Ping pong table was great for the kids. A real log cabin, private hot tub and the bus to the mountain picks you up at your driveway. What more could you ask for?

Rustic charm

It was great .. even though the hot tub was not available we still enjoyed the rustic feel of the cabin and Beki refunded us for one nights stay for the inconvenience. All in all it exactly what we expected.

Needs attention, but nice place...

The dishwasher, the hot tub, the window blinds and the lock on the front door need significant improvement.

I believe the cabin needs some neglected TLC to return it to it's former glory. None the less, I really enjoyed my stay. If the above list gets taken care of, I would absolutely stay here again.

Owner's Response: Hi Chandra! I'm so glad that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for bringing the dishwasher to my attention, I have already contacted the repairman to go over and check it out. We have addressed the issue with the lock and it has been repaired. The window blinds are being replaced next week with curtains to allow more of the natural light of Winter Park into the cabin. The hot tub is an older model and while it isn't as powerful as it was in it newer days, it is still an awesome tub to soak and relax i! We do have plans for some additional upgrades to the cabin before ski season starts back up. I hope that you will come stay again after we have done the updates so you can fully enjoy the Bear Claw Cabin experience.

Bear Claw Cabin is conveniently located in the Town of Winter Park on the ski mountain side. This cabin is a 2 minute drive into town/10 minute walk, and 5 minute walk to Wolf Park (playground, tennis courts, bbq's/gazeebo). The cabin is on a 1/2 acre lot and has a beautiful deck in back with private views of aspen trees and the mountain. It has a 6 foot privacy fence around the hottub. This cabin is very conveniently located close to town yet is a quiet, private home.

Other Activities: The rec center is just down the hill. (Swimming, fitness center, yoga classes, water slide etc.)

Wolf Park is a 5 minute walk away. (Tennis courts, basketball courts, children's playground, picnic area/gazeebo).

There is fishing along the fraser river. Contact Mo Henry outfitters in the town of Winter Park for all details!

There is ample hiking in the area. There is fantastic mountain biking throughout winter park.

Golf: There is golf in the area but I'm not sure on details. Please consult the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce for additional information on golfing in Winter Park!

Ski: Bear Claw Cabin has a ski shuttle stop right at the end of the driveway! The shuttle runs all day and will take you/your loved ones to and from the slopes so you don't have to drive anywhere.
