Description

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday home in Accord - The Woods Retreat

Open, loft-like space with a full kitchen, a wood stove, and full bath.

Just 2 hours from the GWB, Woods Retreat is located in the heart of Ulster County, and the foothills of the Catskill mountains in the High Falls/Stone Ridge area. Close to New Paltz, Kingston, Woodstock, Mohonk Mountain, and the Ashokan reservoir, the Woods Retreat is right across the river from Rhinebeck, Hyde Park, and Poughkeepsie.

This unique house with beautiful views of the Catskills was built and designed as a peaceful get-away with modern comforts, using local wood & stone and an open floor plan. It's quiet and secluded while being a short distance [5 miles] from a major road. The area is known for its abundance of great restaurants, art galleries, antiquing, and hiking as well as rock climbing in the Shawangunks and many historic sites. The Belleayre and Hunter Mountain ski region is within an hour's drive.

Whether you're looking for a quiet, secluded weekend away, or a private & special base from which to venture forth, the Woods Retreat is an experience not to be missed!

Here's what some of our guests have written in our guest book:

Absolutely gorgeous... exactly what we were hoping for!... romantic, relaxing, secluded, private, charming, cozy, ....well done!

We had a truly memorable stay at this enchanted hideaway! Thank you for sharing this space with others — it's magical!

We had a wonderful time staying in this beautiful place! ... We found everything we were looking for and even more.

Thank you so much, you know how to do it right! This was perfect.

The Woods Retreat: Take a break from your hectic work-week and escape to New York's scenic Hudson Valley. At the Woods Retreat you'll find a secluded get-away, far from the hectic demands of your work day. Nestled at the top of a forested ridge you'll have views of the Catskill Mountains surrounding the Shokan reservoir to the north-west. You'll find a peaceful, quiet retreat with all of your needs within reach.

The Hudson Valley: Only 2 hours from Manhattan, nearby Stone Ridge & High Falls are popular weekend go-to places for many urban dwellers. There's an excellent selection of restaurants within a 6 mile radius, as well as sophisticated shops and lots of galleries and antique stores. Woodstock, Kingston, [one of the top ten best cities in the country to buy real estate, as reported on NBC's Today Show], are nearby. New Paltz is just over the ridge and Rhinebeck & Hyde Park are directly across the Hudson River. Ulster County has hiking, mountains, skiing, historical sights, rivers, lakes and streams, and more artists per capita than any other New York county.

About Dan Kajeckas and Donna Calcavecchio

I am an artist and graphic designer who grew up in the nearby hamlet of High Falls. I am passionate about my work and I have a deep love of the property I own with my brother Dan. I studied art and illustration at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and as much as I loved living on the Upper West Side while I was in school, I came back upstate every weekend to work at John Novi's Depuy Canal House, staying at my Dad's newly constructed house in the woods. I had the best of both worlds!

Why Dan Kajeckas and Donna Calcavecchio chose Hudson Valley

My brother Dan and I inherited this property from our father, who designed and built this wonderfully unique retreat. His purpose was to create a secluded, environmentally responsible, sustainable house for his retirement years, (this was in the nineties). Sadly, he was unable to live here on a full time basis, but he enjoyed the blissful seclusion and warm ambiance of his creation for many family celebrations and holiday get togethers.

What makes this house unique

I have such a close bond to this house and property... once you get to the top of the hill, after traversing the somewhat steep and rather long driveway, you'll see for yourself how truly special it is. If you're looking for peace and quiet,... seclusion without being totally isolated, you will love spending a weekend, a week or even a month at this secluded get away. We do as much as we can to make you feel at home as soon as you walk through the door. The spice cabinet is fully stocked, pots and pans, knives,... you'll find a fully stocked kitchen, and our hope is to anticipate your every need. We even make sure there's cream for your morning coffee.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We were very pleased upon our arrival to find Donna waiting and the cabin in very good condition. I would say the pix don't do it justice. The cabin is surrounded by woods. The sounds of the woods at night make for a very relaxing sleep. All the appliances work very well. Soaps and shower things are exquisitely upscale. Highly recommended. The cabin is located in a nice farming area of Ulster county. You are within 30 minutes of some great hiking, pick-ur-own farms and vineyards in Gardiner.

Beautiful, relaxing retreat!

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautiful, rustic and very uniquely but beautifully designed and decorated. We loved everything about it. We came for a few days to relax after our wedding in the area and it couldn't have been better for it. It's clear they take wonderful care of this home!!

Stayed July 1-July 4, 2016

My wife and I felt right at home as soon as we stepped into the house. Importantly, the home feels secluded as you make your way down the private drive and then up to the property.

Home is nicely equipped with everything you'll need in the kitchen, bath, and bedroom. Donna and Dan obviously put a lot of thought into that. The only miss for us was furniture in the living room, in front of the TV. Though we didn't watch much, it would have been nice to have a decent sofa to sit on while watching the morning news. But possibly that only compelled us to head outdoors sooner, away from the droning telly and into the beautiful nature that surrounds the home.

Also, Donna made it clear that she was there should we need anything during our stay. But we didn't, and she let us be – perfection. Thanks again Donna and Dan!

We'll be back, highly recommend!

Tranquility at its finest

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I frequently take trips upstate to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The Woods Retreat was perfect! The home was secluded with lots of privacy and trees for miles which is exactly what we were looking for. The layout of the house was well thought out. My favorite was the stone-wall leading to the stairwell. The charming loft is wrapped with tall windows - the scenery was lovely to wake up to. There were candles strategically placed everywhere - just a perfect romantic setting. We spent the days exploring the grounds and night cuddling by the wood-stove. Can't wait to visit again!

beautiful rustic home in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 3 spent a wonderful week in this woodsy rustic home. The interior is just lovely. All 3 of us indulged in daily baths in the beautiful bathtub and enjoyed falling asleep with the windows open to the sounds of frogs and crickets. Freshly roasted coffee and organic soaps and lotions added to the experience. We enjoyed picking berries, eating ice cream, hiking, and swimming in the local area. The house is definitely in a remote location, so make sure that is what you are looking for. Don't plan on walking down to the corner for a cup of coffee and the morning paper! But if a stylish, comfortable, quiet house in the woods is what you seek, this is the place for you.

Notes:
Our kitchen is fully equipped. We supply basic spices and make sure there is extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and a selection of fresh roasted coffee beans from a local coffee roaster. There is a burr coffee grinder, plenty of utensils for cooking and grilling, [on the gas grill, or for roasting marshmallows over the outdoor fire bowl] wine glasses, pilsner glasses and dishes. We supply table clothes and napkins as well as sheets and towels. There are potted plants on the patio and we make sure that there are fresh cut flowers for the table. We supply firewood for the wood stove during the fall and winter months and for the fire bowl in the summer. With plenty of advance notice and for an additional fee, we can arrange for a private chef for an evening meal, or we can help you to plan a small dinner party, or family reunion.
