About Jennifer Greggor

Having visited the Hawaiian islands various times over the years with my young children, we finally discovered the Big Island - totally fell in love with the island.... Hawi specifically, then realized that the 'dry side' had a lot to offer...

Jennifer Greggor purchased this estate in 2008

Why Jennifer Greggor chose Kohala Coast

I purchased this property because of it's central location to all of what I think is the best that the Big Island has to offer. Mainly in all honesty because I realized for the first time in my life, I was able to make a major financial decision by myself - so I purchased an estate! Meanwhie, You can easily reach the volcano and Hilo side, the observatories at the summit, Kona, Waipio Valley, Puako, Hawi, the resorts, and beaches without having to overnight somewhere else. You can watch the ship traffic enter the harbor at Kawaihae or spend the day watching the whales from the house, (try and visit between December and March for the humpback whales.)

What makes this estate unique

This home lends itself well to multi-generational family reunions, weddings, and events while maintaining the intimate feel for smaller family vacations. Since it sits on a large parcel of land, guests will enjoy the privacy and tranquility provided in a rural uncrowded setting surrounded by coconut palms and professional landscaping.

The Ohana home ( 2br / 2ba ) is on the same 6 acres and is great for hosting your inlaws or guests that want to be close to the event but separate from all the activity. Kohala Home . Big IslandEstate .

Fabulous Vacation

  • 5 of 5

The house was easy to find with the direction provided. The path from the circular drive leads to a Koi pond by the front door. Keys were in a lock box and easily accessed. The home is high on the mountainside overlooking the beautiful pacific. We spent most of our time on the lanai and enjoyed watching the birds and whales breaching below. The weather was sunny, in the 80s every day with a beautiful breeze. A few mosquitoes at dusk, but nothing major. We watched the sunset over the ocean from the hot tub. The house itself is spacious and spotless. The pictures don't do it justice. There are two master suites with king beds, one upstairs and one downstairs. Both have huge bathrooms. There are two queen bedrooms with a shared bath, and a queen sofa bed in the den. We ate most of our meals on the lanai, where there is seating for 16. The kitchen is beautiful, although we did find there were a few tools missing that one might expect in a gourmet kitchen, such as a garlic press, Chef's knife, barbeque brush, and griddle. There is a media room with comfy recliners where we enjoyed watching the Patriots win the playoffs! There were beach towels and a lunch cooler provided. There is an additional guest room across the Koi pond if needed. The home is a bit out of the way (which is just the way we like it). It was about 40 minutes to Kailua Kona, 20 minutes to Waimea, 2 hours to Volcano, 10 minutes to Hapuna Beach. There is a small market close by, but better to do your main grocery shopping in Kona. There is so much to do on the Big Island. We went on a fishing charter, The beaches of course - Hapuna Beach and Waialea Bay Beach (Beach 69), Tide pools and sea turtles at Puako Beach, Pololu Valley lookout and hike down to black sand beach, Mauna Kea summit tour to see the observatories and stargazing - the skies are amazing!, snorkeling at Honaunau (Two Steps), shopping in Kailua, night snorkeling with manta rays (not to be missed!), Volcano National Park, Hiking Kilauea Iki, Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tour over the volcano, Akaka Falls State Park, and Waipio Vally. And then of course, sitting on the lanai with a good book! Jenny & Mark were great were prompt with communication. We had a minor issue with the WiFi and they were easy to reach and very responsive. I would definitely recommend this home!

Disappointing!!!

  • 3 of 5

We rented this house as one of three used for a large family reunion in the area. We only needed it for the beds and showers, no meals were prepared here. When we travel, there are three basic needs we expect to be met by any lodging: 1) cleanliness; 2) good beds; 3) good bedding and towels. This place barely made it in the 'good beds' category and was completely lacking in the other two. It was not clean when we arrived, grit on the floors (we took shoes off and walked barefoot), dirt all around the laundry area, dust on the closet shelving where you unpack your clothing, etc. But worst of all was the bedding and towels. The beds had cheap polyester sheets, which in the July heat was very uncomfortable. We found one set of king cotton sheets, but they had holes in them. There were a minimum of bath towels for all the bedrooms and people this place should hold and NO hand towels or wash cloths. We called the owner and they made some excuse about 'quick turnaround' from the previous renter so we expected the rest of the linens to be brought by later - but they never showed up.

It's a good thing we weren't planning to eat meals here. The dining table seats four people. Overall the place is very cheaply built and poorly maintained. Skimpy and tacky furnishings. Certainly not worth the price we paid for it!

Owner's Response: This spiteful review is exactly why owners should not rent to a directly competing Kona Coast Vacation Rental company! Lorrie insisted on a check in date that was the same as a check out of a group that was here for a week for their wedding and vacation stay. To accommodate Lorries' group of 14 adults on the heels of a large group with a wedding required our cleaners to fully clean a 6,200 sq. ft. house in four hours. Laundry and linens had to be taken off site for the amount of time necessary to clean the houses' full set of linens and towels due to the time required to clean them. Even with a full set of linens and towels offsite, Lorrie said that there were enough towels and linens to have all beds fresh and clean for her group of 14 guests. Expectations of 800 thread count sheets may not have been met but to suggest that the cotton blend sheets are polyester are not truthful as I do not believe any such thing exists. The fact is that if the cleaners used a set of sheets with holes in them I would not approve. So I am glad they were unused but still available for an emergency. Floors are vacuumed, swept, and mopped for each arrival but in some cases, sand may still linger and get tracked inside. We do not have A/C so windows provide a lovely breeze and may allow in dust. Having taken some time to pick apart our home, Lorrie could only find a bit of dust inside a walk-in closet on a shelf. She could not say that kitchen area, bathrooms, or bedrooms were dirty and still gave three stars on her review. So, I applaud my cleaners on the great job they did that day on a very short turnaround! We are very proud of our staff. Our home features outdoor dining with seating for 18 guests in addition to the mentioned breakfast nook which seats four and the kitchen bar area which seats six guests. Travelers and guests should consider staying within their budget when renting and not seek a Kamaina Discount (local) after the fact by complaints over dust on a closet shelf. We did accommodate Lorrie on a less than minimum seven night stay but apparently did not give her satisfaction. Our preferred payment method of paying by check allowed for her request of, "We would prefer to go directly through you as VRBO/HOMEAWAY is now charging a fee which increases the cost by about 9%." Sorted from lowest to highest..I am also upset that I cannot block a "competitors" review based on her over-inflated opinion of how she would accomplish things.

Peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

Hey Jenny - I meant to e-mail you before now to just let you know how much

we enjoyed staying at the Ohana House for my niece's wedding. We especially

loved the screened veranda - we loved the breeze blowing through the house -

although at times it gusted and surprised us!!! Loved watching the clouds

and hearing the birds. I thought I could live there permanently - so quiet

- like you said.

Amazing home, great location!

  • 5 of 5

We could not have asked for more than this home! This home fit our needs perfectly with our 4 kids, 2 parents that stayed in the home, and up to 9 other guests that visited for cookouts :) My now wife and I chose this house, because it would easily hold our families and friends for our weekly wedding events and it couldn't have been more perfect! Each kid had a room, and the adults each had master bedrooms that are absolutely enormous! And what views! The pics don't do it justice! You have views as far as the eyes can see, and wonderful views of the deep blue ocean!

We enjoyed the huge covered patio for cookouts with up to 17, and never felt crowded or cramped! Honestly there couldn't have been a better home for our family and our friends who came and visited. The location was ideal as well! We weren't in the hustle and bustle of a city like Kona, but we were close enough to go and do. Shopping, groceries, and food were a mere 10 minute drive away. The kids loved the Koi pond, and so did we. What an amazing way to walk up to the home and just relax.

I know when we come back to the Big Island, this will be our home away from home once again!

Defies description

  • 5 of 5

This home was ideal for our son's destination wedding!! The theater room was a great place to relax and refresh! The upstairs master bed room with air conditioning was a perfect place for the bride to get ready. We had approximately 65 guests the day of the wedding and there was ample room in and out of the house. I would definitely recommend this home for an awesome, unforgettable experience.

Amazing Piece of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Our entire extended family stayed in this beautiful and spacious home during a family reunion. It was an ideal setting. The teenagers camped out in the theater room, the younger children played on the lawn and the kitchen was large enough for multiple cooks. The owners were extremely responsive and accommodating. The location worked really well for us. The property is beautifully maintained, from the Koi pond and the palm trees to the walking path. The garage had coolers to use, boogie boards, snorkel gear and sand toys. The two spacious king bedrooms had amazing bathrooms. There were numerous other comfortable bedrooms. Great laundry room. Nicely decorated home overall. It had such a warm feeling about it. I grew up spending summers in Kohala and this home is a great way to enjoy the Big Island. Located near Hapuna Beach. Mark & Jenny Greggor are amazing hosts.
