About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Located 3 Miles west of the City of Puerto Plata in quiet Costambar. Nicely furnished 2 bedroom, one bath unit on the second floor. One minute walk to beach. Daily maid, casinos nearby. Good base for exploring the North Coast of the DR. Much to see and do.

Check out the Puerto Plata report and specifically, Costambar Monthly, for tons of info on Costambar and Puerto Plata.

Nice coral protected beach which is great for children. At a low tide you can walk way out and there is lots of sealife to investigate. Be careful when walking because openings in the coral can go 50 feet deep. Great for snorkeling or diving. Locals fish and snorkle with spearguns and sell their catch, the more spanish you speak the less you pay.

Wifi, Cable TV, daily maid. Maid will do your laundry for a reasonable fee. Towels and linens supplied. Maid cleans floors, and empties the trash, you are responsible for everything else. The towels are changed every 3rd day and sheets once a week. No Phone , no air-conditioning. We have a generator that runs on a schedule for maintenance and a battery backup for fans, lights and fridge as emergency backup. Deposit and signed rental agreement necessary for reservation. I answer e-mails promptly on weekdays.

About Thomas Cambra

I bought my apartment in 1989 when I lived in Rhode Island. I always enjoyed being away from the telephone and the pressures of life at home. Winter vacations are not as important since I moved to Clearwater, Florida but I still like getting away from the USA and enjoying the Puerto Plata attitude to everything, 'No Problem'. I am a retired mailman.

Thomas Cambra purchased this condo in 1989

Why Thomas Cambra chose Dominican Republic North Coast

I bought it in 1989 because for me it was the affordable Caribbean. Puerto Plata is a charming town, the people are very friendly and the weather is reliably warm in the winter.

Florida in the winter is not a reliable beach vacation. It seemed as though everytime we vacationed in Florida we caught a cold front. Not the case in Puerto Plata. The water is 80 degrees in the winter and 85 in the summer.

My unit is on a short street, Calle Padre Bilini, that ends at the beach. There is a green area behind the complex. The mountain in the background is Mt Isabela which has the Caribbeans only cable car. I always enjoy getting away from the hustle and bustle of life in the USA.

What makes this condo unique

My unit is in a small 18 unit complex called Seabreeze Suites which is located in Costambar a community 3 miles west of the City of Puerto Plata. Costambar is rural and the DR is third world. My place is nice but it is for experienced travelers. The DR is not the US. You will know you have been on vacation out of the US. The people are very nice and it is safe to go wherever you want taking the precautions you would take anywhere else.

I can recommend a Spanish tutor for those of you that have an interest in learning a little Espanol or want someone to work with your children. She could also serve as a guide and her rates are very reasonable. She will come to your apartment. If you don't speak spanish and haven't been to Puerto Plata before she would save you money.

Rental cars are cheaper in the DR than here in Flordia. I've stayed in the Playa Dorado complex several times and the rooms there weren't impressive in relation to my unit. So the difference in renting my place from a hotel is that you are on your own.

The benefit of being able to cook your own food is two fold, it is cheaper and you don't get sick.

Beau condo très bien situé près de la mer

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in 2012 for a month. This year (2014) we returned for another month. It was a comfortable, clean apartment in 2012 and this year it was even better with the improvements that Tom, the owner, has done. We enjoy our time on the beach...only minutes away...and our time in the pool.

The numerous restaurants and bars in Costambar are excellent serving Dominican, Canadian, Italian and German fare at reasonable prices. We ate most breakfasts and some dinners at the apartment but eating out is so reasonable we took advantage of being spoiled. The kitchen is very well stocked with cooking equipment and the local corner store is very accommodating if you choose to eat all of your meals in.

The apartment and property is very clean and well maintained by Myrium and management.

Exactly want we wanted

  • 5 of 5

Renting this condo from Tom made our trip to Puerto Plata accommodating, affordable, relaxing, and most of all, enjoyable. Our condo was clean and well stocked with everything we could possible need for our 11 day stay. Many days we lounged in the clean pool for hours at a time. It was such a nice quiet atmosphere. We had such a great time in Costambar. Many meals and piña coladas were had at Pauls (restaurant on the beach a block away). We had the opportunity of meeting so many lovely and cheerful people there from all over the world. The beach which is only steps away from the condo was clean and maintained. In the area are lots of services as well, such as taxi, groceries, pharmacy, restaurants, etc.

I can't wait to back again soon as I will definitely be staying here again.

Owner's Response: Emily, Thanks for the rental. Tom is my Dad and he helped me to answer your emails. I wrote all of the correspondence we had, with the help of my Dad. I earned a commission but my Dad made me put half of it in the bank. I'll be 10 years old in January. Emily Cambra

Seabreeze Suites

  • 5 of 5

This Condo was recently renovated & upgraded by the owner Tom.He truly cares that people enjoy their stay.

Staff on site are very helpful.

Let me Review different aspects of our stay:

Nicely done reno's Floors/Kitchen/Bathroom

Very clean.

New appliances

Beautiful balcony, ate breakfast their every morning while

watching the sun come over the horizon.

Gas stove works perfectly when the power goes out

Inverter takes care of all your needs Fridge/lights/fans during outage

Have a shower when the power is on( Hot water tank heats quickly)

When the power goes out so does the TV - who goes to a

beautiful vacation spot to watch TV anyway ?

I saw water collection tanks on the roof when we were there

Pool in courtyard

Very Comfortable all round !

Gated Secure Community

The Condo is situated in a great spot - Beach,Ocean at the end

of the street.

Stores within walking distance & they will deliver promptly

to the Condo.

Restaurants -walking distance,Great Food, or you can cook for yourself

at the condo.

We went to an all inclusive 2 years ago in DR and I must say this is

far superior as you have more freedom to walk around and meet people

cook for yourself or go out to a restaurant rather than be stuck with a buffet.

Costambar is only 3 km's from Puerto Plata so you can take a taxi in

and do some sightseeing - Cable Car,Flea Markets, etc. Go to La Serina store - it is like a smaller version of Wal-Mart

The golf course is just behind the condo if you like.

I can't say enough how friendly the locals were -we made friends & had

fun with the local business owners

They are truly happy to see you.

We enjoyed ourselves so much the 2 weeks we were there -

we are going back this year for more than a month.

Weather was great - sunny & hot except for 1 day( Rained )

I recommend this holiday spot to everyone.
