Comfortable and Pet-friendly Retreat Near National Seashore

People4
Bedrooms 2
Bathrooms1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

Overview

About the property

1 bedroom (1 queen-size) plus living room (2 twin beds), 1 bathroom, sleep 4

Beautiful gem of a house nestled in hollow near (1/4 mile) Cape Cod Rail Trail and two Cape Cod National Seashore beaches (2 miles).

We live directly above in a separate apartment with a separate entrance. We have replaced the door between the two apartments with a solid-core door and made other improvements for soundproofing, but please know that we are a family of four with two girls, ages 4 and 13.

Half-acre, fenced yard, and friendly pets allowed.

Kitchenette includes microwave, toaster/oven, and small refrigerator.

Recently repainted and updated interior, rental area includes brick patio with grill, table, and chairs, satellite tv, and wi-fi.

A/C, fans included.

This two-floor home is shared between a newly renovated rental apartment downstairs and our family of four on the upper level who have a separate entrance and living space. Entry to the rental apartment is through two large sliding glass or screen doors directly into a living room that includes a kitchen/dining area with a new fridge/freezer, a large HD satellite television, and two twin beds. The dining area has a circular table that can seat four people. It also includes a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, glasses, flatware, rice cooker, two-burner hot plate, and a cabinet for storage of linens and kitchen supplies.

The stairway landing shown to the left of the twin bed has a door on the other side of it leading into the bedroom. At the top of the stairs is a door to the upstairs landlord living space with a deadbolt on the downstairs side. The bedroom has another door on the west side leading across a small hallway to the bathroom. The bedroom includes a queen bed and a large closet for hanging clothes.

The Wi-fi cable router located upstairs over the rental bedroom can reach appliances and cell phones anywhere inside the house.

At the end of the hallway is the utility room which includes a large sink for washing dishes and a washer and dryer.

The bathroom has a brand new shower stall with new wall frame installed in June 2014 and all new ceramic tile flooring.

Both of the landlords upstairs (Sabrina and Peter) work most of the time but share in supervising our two daughters (4 and 13-years-old). We are usually out during the day time and home upstairs at night.

The house is located less than one half mile from the Cape Cod Rail Trail, Minister's Pond (freshwater swimming and boating), the Salt Pond Visitor Center of the Cape Cod National Seashore, Arnold's Restaurant (lobster and clam bar and ice cream and mini-golf), Willy's Gym (fitness center with pool), Audubon sanctuary, a drive-in movie theater, Nauset Lighthouse, and other attractions.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you for allowing our dogs to stay in your accommodations. It was wonderful having a nice area for them to run around in. Cape Cod is such a dog-friendly place, and we so enjoyed our vacation with our furry children. We spent a lot of time at the beach, and we found our new favorite spot. The weather has been just right, and we had a wonderful time this week. It was especially nice to come back at night and have plenty of room to stretch out. Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise!

VERY good! We loved the feel and comfort.

  • 4 of 5

I give it an excellent rating because though the house is undergoing improvements it was clean and it was comfortable. I should note that our family does not demand everything be Hilton-esque and some may think that the bedrooms are somewhat sparse, however we found it very nice when compared with other rentals at the same price.

Property:

One of the features is the fenced in yard. We were able to let our Westie out of the door whenever he wanted to run, so he had a vacation too.

The house is off the main road and I dont think we heard a single car pass during our stay. The pond is 130 paces from the property. My daughter caught a pickerel in the first 10 minutes of fishing. The larger back deck is very comfortable. There are neighbors on either side, but they are friendly and quiet. The owner was rarely there and when he was it was only evident because his car was there.

Interior

The beds are comfortable, though the bedrooms are a bit sparse. There is NO evidence that this is a pet-friendly house. No smells, no pet hair, nothing. When you enter the house there is a very handy counter to your left where you can put things down. The kitchen was nice and clean, new fridge from what I could tell. The large main room is condusive to relaxing together.

Again, our family had a wonderful, relaxing time and we look forward to renting from Peter again next year.

Centrally located and pet friendly

  • 4 of 5

Peter and Sabrina are gracious hosts and made us feel very welcome. In terms of location the property is central which is very convenient for folks wishing to explore the Cape.

Great location with gracious hosts

  • 5 of 5

Peter & Sabrina were very gracious hosts. They were friendly and helpful and were quick to respond when we needed anything. The listing on VRBO said we needed to bring our own sheets and towels, but this was not true--they provided everything!

The only drawback was that there is no real kitchen area. However, the Whitlocks overcame this by providing a toaster oven, microwave, mini refrigerator, plates, bowls, utensils, etc. We washed dishes in the utility sink in the laundry room--which was another bonus--although we didn't need to use it for our short stay, we had the washer and dryer available. There was plenty of room, and this apartment could have easily accommodated our family of five, if we'd come before the kids were grown.

We loved the location--private and out of the way, but quick access to route 6 and only abut 2 mIles to Coast Guard Beach on the Natonal Seashore. We brought our 85 lb dog, and walked the trail to the beach with him every morning.

This was a great little gem to find, and we intend to check availability here for our next trip to Cape Cod!

Great hosts, great location, great place!

  • 5 of 5

I had a friend in from the Netherlands visiting and we decided to take a last minute trip to the Cape - Peter and Sabrina were fantastic! They responded very quickly, were happy to make room for the two of us and my two dogs with very little notice, and were very accommodating! The space is a walk-out basement apartment (no full kitchen - hot plate, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, fridge, etc. though) but it is wonderfully done with big bright windows so it doesn't feel like a basement at all! They have a huge fenced in backyard that the dogs loved!! I would highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a quiet place to explore the Cape from!

Owner's Response: We are so thrilled that folks and their pets really enjoy our big backyard. Like Diana said the rental is a basement apartment, but we try our best to make it feel as bright, spacious, and cheery as we can. Typically, renters give us very positive feedback about the amount of space and comfort the apartment has. We love to share our home with folks that are looking to have a fun, relaxing time on Cape Cod. Thank you so much to Diana and her guest for appreciating our hospitality! It's people like them that make our rental experiences so fulfilling.

Good clean basic rental.

  • 3 of 5

This rental is fine for budget-minded vacationers. Keep in mind that this is basically a 2-room apt. The kitchen/LR are in one open space, and the nice-sized bedroom w/ queen bed is the other. Note especially that the twin beds are located in the LR, as it shows in the photos, so some renters may need a bit more "privacy" than this apt can accommodate. The "kitchen" needs a bit more supplies to make it more functional...for example there is no stove per say, so cooking is done on a dual hot plate, with use of the available microwave and a toaster/oven. This made large meals a bit complicated, needing to use the sink in the laundry room for dish cleanup. Also keep in mind that the house photographed is the owner's residence....not where the renters stay, as is explained in the listing. The property is great, quiet, and we made use of the raised fire pit. Our hosts were gracious, and were happy to lend us extra kitchen utensils as needed. To sum up, if you plan on making smaller type meals and don't need 2 bedrooms, this apartment will do just fine.
