Why Diane Rust chose Cumberland

This farm has been in my family since 1891 when my grandparents purchased the land from the Knapp-Stout Lumber Company. They cleared the land, built the farm, raised their family, and it has been the center of family activity since those days. In 2008 my husband and I completely renovated the house, inside and out, and it has since continued to provide the perfect gathering place for family and friends. We now would like to share this special place with you with the hope that you will enjoy your time in this special place as much as our family.

Peaceful, relaxing - Like being home on the farm!

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed a wonderful stay with family and friends at the Farmhouse. Our hosts were very accommodating and easy to communicate with. Even with our many questions! Diane was very kind in answering anything we needed to know for our upcoming stay.

The front porch was gorgeous in the early morning - to sit and drink coffee. Enjoyed strolling around the grounds - seeing the massive trees that have been there for so many years! Facilities in the home were just perfect. Kitchen nice size with a large dining room table, as well as a second smaller table in the living room area. Plenty of seating for everyone. Bedrooms were very nice size, with comfortable beds and plenty of pillows.

Just a reminder to anyone staying - A coffee maker is provided, but don't forget to bring your own coffee grounds! So easy to forget! There were most spices available and plenty of dishes, utensils etc...Overall - wonderful experience! Thanks so much!!

A lovely and warm place, and a great place for cooking and family gatherings

  • 5 of 5

The Farmhouse Retreat has become one of my favorite places on the planet, and the place I always stay when I come back to visit family in Cumberland Wisconsin. I've stayed there three times, and will definitely do so again. The kitchen is well stocked with pretty much all the equipment you need to make cookies, roast turkeys, experiment with new recipes, and have family gatherings too. The beds are comfy and sleeping six to eight people is easy. Diane and Richard are very easy to work with, and can always be relied on to have the place ready for a warm and cozy visit. They clearly WANT this place to be well-used and well taken care of too. I also love that the farm house and land has been in Diane's family for more than one hundred years, and that the house has long-held family items in beautiful display.

Farmhouse charm

  • 5 of 5

The Farmhouse Retreat was a perfectly charming home away from home that allowed us to maintain our basic family routines. It was clean, quiet, well-maintained, and comfortable. Diane and Richard were welcoming, gracious hosts-- our 4 kids were instantly won over by the invitation to come see all of the things to do outside. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes/utensils/tools- I do use the kitchens when we rent, and this is the first time I haven't had to buy some utensil to supplement the cupboard. An extra bonus was the closet full of games in one of the bedrooms; the kids were quick to dive in and enjoy themselves. Finally, you can not beat the attraction for the city kid in hearing cows mooing just outside and watching tractors at work!

We stayed at the Farmhouse Retreat in May 2017 and found the place to be as perfect as advertised. The house is spacious and has everything you need to enjoy your stay. Our son enjoyed playing in the large backyard. We use VRBO frequently, and the owners were among the best we have worked with for a rental. They are responsive and will ensure you have a wonderful stay. We highly recommend this property.

Wonderful experience in July 2016

  • 5 of 5

We stayed July 2016 and had a fantastic experience! We were here for a nieces wedding. The property way immaculate and very spacious. The yard was fantastic for kids- thanks for all the yard games and toys and especially pogo stick. I recommend this property for anyone seeking the quiet of country living. Also loved Cameron and Louie's Finer Meats!
