About The Owner

We are a retired couple living in Ireland. We love holidaying in France especially the south of France for its ambiance, food and the outdoor activities especially the walking trails, 'les randones'.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2006

Why The Owner chose Nice Area

We were wowed by the ' Provencal ' village atmosphere the first time we visited Villefranche in 2005 and were fortunate to find this apartment with a large terrace and fabulous views overlooking the Bay of Villefranche, located in the Old Town close to facilities and public transport. Untouched since the 1920's we have managed to retain the Provencal features while modernising the kitchen and bathroom facilities and furnishing it with ' turn of the century ' furniture.

What makes this apartment unique

Villefranche-sur-Mer is a great location on the Cote d'Azur, close to Nice and Monaco with warmer and brighter winters than the south of Italy. It is has excellent public transport, a wonderful sandy beach, renowned restaurants which remain open all year and a good selection of food outlets and a weekly market.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a lovely apartment right on the edge of the old town of Villefranche with a wonderful view of Cap Ferrat and the bay from the balcony. The balcony is perfect for sitting out and relaxing in the warm Mediterranean evenings. We spent a fabulous week there, with easy access to public transportation for day trips to surrounding towns such as Nice and Monaco. We took a wonderful day trip by train to Saorge, a perched village in the mountains.

Everything you need such as bakeries, supermarkets, and restaurants are within a short walk from the apartment. The kitchen is well stocked with everything needed for cooking so we had a nice mix of eating in and exploring the local restaurants.

The bathroom is bright and airy, and having a washing machine was great. The floor tiling echoes the wonderful colors of Provence and is very nicely accented by the furnishings. The welcoming fresh flowers were a lovely touch.

We would definitely book this apartment again and continue to work on our French.

Villefranche/Mer Old Town. Large terrace w/superb seaview. Close to restaurants
average rating of 4.918919 based on 38 reviews

Lovely views and location for enjoying and exploring the Côte d'Azur.

  • 5 of 5

The Furniture was most comfortable inside and out. The bathroom very modern but the dual headed shower a bit tricky to regulate. It was great to have a grill on the terrace which is like having an extra room in good weather. And the washer was very useful but a manual or guide would be helpful. Cautions would be that the armoire was not always easy to access or to close. The kitchen supplies were limited and quite basic. (no strainer or colander, lack of sharp knives and barely enough dishware to see two people through one day. We found the dishwasher noisy and inefficient so used it as a drying rack after hand washing the dishes. Plus one cannot use the stove/oven if the dishwasher below them is in use. But for the lovely views from each room, comfortable bed and furniture and the easy access to bus anywhere on the Riviera it is absolutely a great rental.

Owner's Response: We are delighted that Mary found our apartment to be comfortable, both bed and furniture, and like other guests, enjoyed the BBQ. We take her point that the amoir needs a door handle and it will be done. Regarding kitchen supplies, the majority of guests find that two of each item is sufficient for 24 hours and that the dish washer is normally switched on in the morning when leaving the apartment. We appreciate guests taking time to write a descriptive and frank review. Eamon and Eileen

great home base for exploring the region

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I used the apartment as a home base for a week, for exploring the region. Nice is only 20 min. away, and we had a cup of cappucino in Italy in a short day trip. The apartment is well equipped for all your needs. although we didn't cook much, the kitchen had the essentials. Everything was in good working order, kept clean, and the air-conditioning worked great (there is a unit in the bedroom as well as in the living room). We enjoyed our breakfasts on the terrace, with its unbelievable view of the rooftops of Villefranche and the bay. Eamon's agent, Sue, met us on our arrival and oriented us to the apt and our location. She was also very responsive when the shower head broke off on day 2 -- it was replaced the same day! If you don't mind walking up and down hills, which is what's required to get to the beach or any eating establishment, the apt is a perfect location, perched up on the hill. And just a stone's throw from a cafe, bakery, green grocer, and butcher. Although we rented a car for this trip, I don't recommend it, since parking near the apt, or anywhere in the village is very scarce and hard to negotiate. Overall, we loved our time there and felt very at home in the apartment.

Owner's Response: We are delighted our guests enjoyed their stay at 'La Belle Epoque' and appreciated the terrace with the panoramic view of the Villefranche Bay. It is essential to have the effective air conditioning during the summer months and it is correct to recommend not to have a rented car on the Cote d'Azur if one can manage the public transport which is frequent inexpensive and clean. A lovely apartment, equipped with everything you need. Great spot in Villefranche, within easy reach of shops, bars, restaurants and the beach. With the view over the old town from the terrace, it is the perfect spot to relax, slurp & BBQ. If you want to chill or explore, it is great base.

Great property for 2 people, location is excellent , quality and fitout is as good as you would want

  • 5 of 5

Kevin & Carol

We stayed in the apartment for 2 weeks and it was great, need to be fit enough to walk up a few steps. the location is excellent. Villefranche is the perfect size village to enjoy the Riviera without all the hustle and bustle of the peak period tourist crush.

Handy to all facilities and services. highly recommend this property for a couple.

Great stay in Villefranche sur Mer

  • 5 of 5

A great apartment above the port of Villefranche sur Mer. The patio has great views out to the sea and we enjoyed the well appointed apartment with its air con and close access to restaurants, boulangerie and boucherie.

We had a car on this trip and parking is an issue. However, we were informed of a 15 Euro weekly pass for nearby parking lots which resolved any issues with parking.

We would definitely visit Villefranche and La Belle Epoque again.

Fantastic! Highly recommend this lovely apartment

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week staying at this lovely apartment in Ville Franche! All of the gushing reviews are spot on! We spent hours on the balcony watching the sailboats, yachts, cruise ships, and even a U.S. military ship come and go. We parked our car on the street for the entire week and either walked or took the bus everywhere. We took the bus to Monte Carlo, Ese, and Nice. Walked the entire 7 kilometer perimeter of Cap Ferrat on a lovely promenade along the water with views of Nice, Monte Carlo, and northern Italy. The Rothschild villa, gardens, and view were fantastic! Sue met us when we arrived and was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with directions and suggestions about restaurants and places to go. The apartment is conveniently located and has everything you need--kitchen, washing machine, towels, etc.
