This magnificent, island-style estate truly exceeds all expectations. A perfect place for family reunions. Located on secluded Pakala Beach on Kauai's west side, this totally serene property borders an orchard and is heavily sprinkled with mature shade trees and a variety of palms.
A long driveway leads guests through a breathtaking panorama to a welcoming portico. The large, southern-style veranda looks out across an expansive landscape and a low, Hawaiian lava rock wall to the Pacific Ocean. This is the perfect vantage point to enjoy spectacular island sunsets.
Step through French doors to a living room lavishly decorated with antique furniture and Persian carpets. The separate dining room is a luxurious amenity perfect for big families. A large, eat-in kitchen opens onto a deck overlooking the beautifully manicured gardens. All bedrooms, are extremely spacious and comfortably furnished. Some are actually suites and several open onto the veranda and the extraordinary vista beyond. Befitting royalty, this impressive home invites families and friends to spend time together yet has acres of space for quiet interludes. A short drive in either direction leads to area markets and restaurants offering a tempting variety of cuisine.
Activities nearby include swimming, snorkeling, fishing, hiking, shopping, boat tours and helicopter tours. World class surfing right in front at Infinity's (aka Pakala's).
One of the best features of our property is out caretaker who lives in a cottage to the rear of the property outside the rock walls. This way you won't travel thousands of miles from home to be left to fend for yourselves in an unfamiliar property. While they are far enough away to ensure your privacy, they are close should anything arise.
The house technically has 4 bdrms, however, what used to be a dressing room off of the master bdrm has it's own double bed and bathroom.

Our home was built in 1912 by Sinclair Robinson, Manager of the Gay & Robinson sugar plantation and patriarch of the Robinson family of Kaua'i and Ni'ihau.
Tired of crowded beaches? Our huge yard that runs all the way down to secluded Pakala beach. Perfect for kids. One virtually lives on the front veranda watching the surfers directly out front and the mountains to the side. Great for conversations and naps! The sun sets right out front silhouetting Niihau, Lehua and Kekaha. Our home sits in the middle of the Robinson family lands, cattle ranch and plantation. The beach is fairly isolated. One can walk two miles northwest along the beach to ruins of the Russian Fort Elizabeth and the Waimea River. Crossing a couple shallow streams and climbing over some shoreline rock is involved. An ancient Hawaiian fish pond is a stone's throw down the beach. Collect abundant drift wood or watch a local fisherman casting his net off the reef.
One of the best features of our home is our caretaker, Mr. Apo. He tends to the yard and light maintenance and is also a wealth of information about Kauai. He and his wife live in a cottage to the rear of the property outside the rocks walls. This makes him far enough away to insure your privacy, but close should anything arise. Our home has two power sources: the public utility and our own hydroelectric plant up in the mountains. Should one go down, Mr. Apo can switch the house to the other source. This way you won't find yourselves thousands of miles away from home in an unfamiliar place and left to your own devices. Besides our caretaker, we also have the fine folks at Kauai Vacation Rentals who are only a 24/7 phone call away.
The perfect place for 3 college buddies to reunite with their families. Spacious, secluded, quiet, in a stunning spot on the beach, this is a prime example of a plantation estate. The owners went our of their way to make sure our time there was special, and it was. All of us, children and grandchildren included, had a spectacular week from the early morning coffee on the porch inhaling the tropical fragrance and watching the surfers, to swimming and walking on the beach, to spectacular sunsets in the evening followed by magical views of the milky way. Tucked in at night we drifted off to sleep at night listening to the waves in the distance after a perfect day. If you are looking for unpretentious elegance and beauty this is the place to make lasting memories.
What a beautiful place to experience the true feel of old Hawaii. The location was wonderful and private and the house was spacious for our family of 11. True paradise. We will definitely be back to this lovely home!
We had a bit more than a week at Pakala this spring and were completely charmed by the experience. It is sort of an "experience" property - it is not just a place to stay, it is a destination unto itself.
First there is the amazing location - eight acres on your own beach is virtually unheard of. We had young children with us and the beauty of just walking down the lawn to the beach was wonderful. The house itself was built in 1915 and still feels very much like it probably did then. Don't look for luxury bathrooms or kitchen - these are the way they were when the house was built with some limited updates. Having said that it is impressive to have en-suite baths in all of the bedrooms. The house was built with an enormous servant's kitchen and butler's pantry and it looks about like it did 50 years ago with a modernish referigerator (2) and range/oven. But part of the charm here is feeling the house the way a huge landowner (the Robinson Family) did fifty years ago. There is no AC but there are wonderful jalousie windows and great windows in the bedrooms. We basically cooked in, and lived on the veranda. The veranda is incredible and you can spend all day looking at the ocean and the spectacular sunset. So bottom line.... I love the Four Seasons as much as anyone. Don't expect this to be that type of luxury - expect the type of luxury you would have found in a plantation home 50 years ago. For me, that was magical.
To describe this rental vacation home properly is very difficult. It is the best. We had 3 very senior adults, 6 other adults, and 3 pre-teens. There was plenty of room, beds, bathrooms and privacy for all. We loved the pantry (part of the kitchen). It is actually an area for preparation of food that is great for several folks preparing lunches and other meals for the crowd. Pakala is listed as inaccessible by wheelchair -but if you can manage 4-5 steps, it is perfect for the less mobile folks (walker) - all on one floor and an ADA bathroom. An extra cot size bed is in one of the bedrooms but not mentioned in the description of the property.It is ideal for a pre-teen.I cannot add much more about the beauty and accommodations of the home than what has already been written. This property was a wonderful surprise. "Plantation" says it all -- the house was vintage and sprawling. It was extremely well kept and stocked with all the amenities/comforts of home. And with 5000 feet on one level and 12-foot ceilings, it all felt absolutely spacious. The veranda was a perfect spot for our family to gather over drinks to watch surfers, whales, and sunsets. We had a group of 9 adults, and the house was perfect with the setup for each family to have their own private space including a bathroom. We cooked breakfasts and dinners at the house nearly every day - the cupboards were so well stocked that we never ran out of clean coffee mugs or wine glasses! Walks on the nearly private beach provided daily excursions and shell-searching. The expansive lawn also provided a feeling of space and luxury -- a welcome change after spending a few days in Waikiki in throngs of tourists. We even bought a frisbee to take advantage of the space! Even before we arrived in Kauai, our experience with this rental was very positive. The rental agent and the owner were very responsive to inquiries, providing pictures and much more information than expected. Some in our group had late flights out on our day of departure and they were very accommodating to arrange a late checkout from the property. (The only thing that would have made the week better was if roosters really only crowed at dawn! ;-) If (when?) we visit Kauai again, we would definitely return to this property!
This home is wonderful in every way. Of course the location (beach front) and large size are the first draw. In addition, there is a beautiful veranda that wraps around the front of the home which is perfect for sitting outside and enjoying the view. The large yard provides substantial space for family play. The history of the home is fascinating and adds character. The size is perfect for a small or larger group. The owner and rental manager are accessible and supportive. We've visited twice now (Feb 13 & Dec 14) and hope to go back again.
Property is situated on Kauai's sunny west side directly behind the world famous Pakala surf break (aka Infinity).
The foot of the Waimea Canyon aka 'The Grand Canyon of the Pacific' is a 2-mile drive away.

An initial deposit and reservation fee are required to confirm your reservation within ten days of booking. Your refund will be returned to you approximately 2-4 weeks after your departure. Charges for damage that is more than normal wear and tear will be deducted.
