Summer weekend retreat.

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived everything was so neat, clean and inviting. The home is a comfortable, well-equiped retreat! Loved the Master bedroom and bath!! The owner has done a wonderful job of anticipating customer needs - we were impressed. Barbeque was a little weak and slow, but maybe that was our problem.?? We would recommend this property to others and we may even rent it again!

We enjoyed playing pool - didn't take the kayaks down to the lake, but that could be another activity sometime. Our son and his girlfriend went over to the village to hear the music one evening.

All in all, a very good experience!

Mixed Feelings...

  • 3 of 5

We thought the house itself was lovely. Attention to detail was evident and the furnishings were of high quality. What was upsetting was the fact that the photos show a lake view and there is NO lake view whatsoever. Maybe there was at one time, but there is no more. The owner should update that and be honest about it. The photos posted give the appearance that the house is a block or two away from the lake. That is misleading. Walking to the lake was rather challenging, and we are all women in our 40s and 50s who are in pretty good shape. We first tried to go through a path out the back of the property. It was like going down a black diamond ski slope. We kept sliding and almost wiping out. The slope is too intense. So then we got to the street and there are no sidewalks and the road is very winding and cars whip around corners. There were some close calls walking to the lake. The walk was a good 15-20 minutes. We decided we better drive the rest of the time. There is no driveway, so you have to park on the street. The house is down from the street, so you have to hoist the kayaks up a rather large and steep set of stairs to the street. Not easy for us to do. We checked the book in the house for directions for the keys to unlock the kayaks, couldn't find them. It would be helpful if the directions were in plain sight. So even though the house is very nice, we wouldn't stay there again because it was important to us to have a lake view and be right by the lake and this wasn't the case.

Owner's Response: This review is unfortunate. I hope you will consider our many other reviews before forming an impression about our cottage. I had many email exchanges with this guest both before and after she reserved her cottage. She knew very well the cottage was not a lakefront cottage that was up from the lake with a forest view. I gave her the address and encouraged her to Google the location and distances. She knew it was a 10-15 minute walk to the lake and Village along a windy road with an uphill walk back to the cottage. She knew the kayaks had to be carried on her vehicle to the Burnt Mill Beach Club that is a 2-3 minute drive from the cottage. She knew the parking was either on a parking deck located adjacent to the street or by the side of the street of the cottage. She was keen on bringing her bikes so her and her friends could ride the lake trail but I advised her the lake trail was not a good place for riding bikes. The most perplexing comment is that she could not find "directions for the keys to unlock the kayaks..." She is correct we have never thought to write down directions to find the keys to unlock the keylock securing the kayaks. We have chosen to "hide" them on the only keychain we give our guests to unlock the cottage. This is a pretty logical place is it not? Imagine a guest seeing the kayaks need a key to unlock. Hmm...where would it be? Rather then text us to ask, like this guest did, would one not think to look on the keychain for the cottage? BTW we promptly returned her text seeking directions to find the key and she quickly located it on the keychain! I am sorry this guest's expectations were not met.

Cozy cabin great for families!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time staying at the Whittington cabin. The property is very comfortable and has plenty of space to accommodate multiple families (as we had two small families staying together). We met friends from out of town here and really enjoyed the quite atmosphere of the patios and decks as well as the close proximity to Burnt Mill Beach Club and The Village for shopping and dining. The kayaks provided with the cabin were great and allowed us to spend several days on the water touring the lake which was great. The only slight challenge was that the weather got very warm during our stay (mid-90's) which made it a little difficult to cool the cabin off but since spent most of the day at the beach club this wasn't a big deal. Janice (the owner) was very responsive on any questions we had which was very helpful. We would definitely consider staying here again and would recommend this place to anyone looking to spend a weekend in Lake Arrowhead.

Wonderful Tree House Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Sweet cottage with lots of wonderful windows, light and open space. Plenty of room and plenty to do for kids and dogs. We especially loved the open living room with fire place and cozy seating. It was like being in a magical tree house. Updated master bathroom is beautiful and, the luxurious towels can't be beat!
