Take the water taxi or bring your boat to this quiet retreat on a private island only accessible by boat. There are sandy paths and golf cart trails, but there are no cars, stores, or restaurants! Our home is located half way between the Gulf and the Bay on Seagrape Lane (Dock 51); you are only a short distance to the sunrise or sunset.
Enjoy 7 miles of beautiful, uncrowded white sandy beaches. Don Pedro State Park is located about 2 miles north of our beach access. There is a library on the island and a small selection of children and fiction/nonfiction books at the house. Board games and cards are supplied along with a DVD collection suitable for all ages. Or forget the electronics - relax, collect shells, build sandcastles, relax, hang out in the hammock, explore, eat, drink, laugh, read, relax, nap, swim, run, or just RELAX. It's the best place to do nothing!
Fish from the dock or the beach, and if you have a boat, you are surrounded by some of Florida's greatest fishing spots for tarpon, snook, redfish, shark, grouper and snapper just to name a few. If you fish from your boat, please purchase a Florida fishing license (good for 1 year).
Our home has two bedrooms upstairs. One has a queen-sized bed and half bath; while the other contains two twin beds. The futon becomes a comfortable double bed. Take time to enjoy dinner on the screened in porch or relax in the hammock. Watch our video on our Facebook page - Cabbage Palm Cottage!

Little Gasparilla Island has been part of our lives since we were kids. In 1990 during a vacation stay of beautiful days, wonderful fishing, quiet times with the kids (no TVs or electronic gadget demands!)we decided it was time to spend all our vacations here. We found the perfect lot on Seagrape Lane and built this retreat for our family. From the first time we stayed there in April 1991, it has been a respite from the craziness of our everyday lives. Laura's sister, Tish and her husband Phil, are now owners with Steve and Laura. We hope that sharing our little piece of paradise with you will bring a smile to your face as you remember your stay.
Laura purchased this cottage in 1991
Nestled among the cabbage palms, this comfortable home is minutes away from the Bay sunrises and the Gulf sunsets! It's time to leave the business of the world behind and unplug on this beautiful island.
Osprey, cardinals, gopher turtles and the 'slow' pace of the island is all you need. As one friend says, 'The worst day on the Island is better than the best day on the Mainland!'
Just stayed at the Cottage on Seagrape and it was a perfect week. Sunny and high 70s every day. The water was warm. This cottage is perfect for us, family of 4 - two girls 3 and 5. It would also be perfect for a couple. This is a great place if you just want relax and do nothing but stroll back and forth the beach. Basically each day consisted of slowly waking up at our leisure, heading down to the beach from about 10:30-12:30, walking back to the house for lunch and nap, heading back down the beach at about 3pm with a cooler of beers for mom and day and juice boxes for the kids, head back to grill dinner, have some treats and go to bed. I think I looked at my phone maybe twice all week.
The beach is awesome. It's a beautiful beach and just a scattering of people. Quiet.. just the wind and waves and occasionally the faint yells of people splashing in the distance. But honestly the kids were just as happy staying back at the house. They painted shells and did art projects everyday, read books with mom/dad, or they just played in the house, out on the porch or went exploring around it. We thought we would probably throw in a movie for them at least once or twice, but despite a full stock dvds on hand with plenty of kids movies, it never came up
A perfect place.
Cabbage Palm Cottage has been wonderful. Very homey and spacious for our whole family. The cottage is centrally located on the island for quick beach access and fun long golf cart rides! Looking forward to renting again
I shouldn't be telling you this, but... The cottage is as described on listing and in photos. Words and photos cannot describe how beautiful LGI is. Returned Mar 20 from 5 nights on LGI (spent the previous 7 days in Orlando). This was our first trip to the island but it won't be our last. Mom, Dad, 12 year old daughter, and Grandma from NS Canada made the trip. The owners, Steve and Laura were awesome to book with!!!
Picked groceries up enroute to Placida/Boca Grande. Booked our trouble-free transport to and from LGI via Pirate's Water Taxi with pick up and drop off at Eldred's Marina. Parked at marina. Reserved a golf cart for our stay through LGI Golf Cart Rentals... it was waiting for us dockside when we arrived... you won't need it but it was fun to have. The cottage was perfect for our group. Cottage is more than adequately stocked with spices, cooking oil, dish detergent, pots and pans, utensils, etc..., lnens, face clothes, bath and beach towels, paper towel and TP, washer/dryer, Weber charcoal bbq and a bag of charcoal, fishing rods and tackle (pick up some live shrimp for bait from the marina), beach "gear" are all supplied. Tv and dvd player in the Queen bedroom, board games, a large dvd and book "library". Pretty much everything you would ever need except for your groceries and beverages.
House has heat and AC if needed... we prefered open air with the many ceiling fans running for the hot days, and an extra quilt for cool nights.
Location: IMO, the location was perfect. Other than a beachfront property it doesn't get any better than this on the island. You have neighbors on each side, but with the lush vegetation, you'd need to strain to see signs of them. We always felt like we had plenty of privacy. It's a leisurely and pretty 2 minute walk to the beach... same to dock on mainland side of island. Words and pics can't describe the beauty of the beach. Incredible!!! The beach area near the access path on Seagrape Lane was nearly deserted all the days we were there. We ventured (2 min walk) to the beach each day mid morning, some quick visits home for bathroom breaks, lunch snacks, or to refill your beverage, and home for supper. The amount of beautiful shells on the beach can't be quantified. Saw dolphins every day at the beach. Back to the beach each evening for a truely world class sunset. Caught lots of different types of gulf coast fish from the dock. No wifi but i had cell/data coverage if needed. AWESOME>ran out of characters
My husband and I just spent 5 days at this home on the island. The first 3 days it rained but it was a blessing in disguise. It gave us time to really wind down and relax. It didn't rain hard so we ere still able to get out. One thing I say is a must is to rent a golf cart from Derek. He was super nice. We would have been lost with out our cart. It was so much fun exploring the island by golf cart. We saw turtles and armadillos while riding. On the sunny days we went to the beach and found many, many sharks teeth. We only left our stay a few days early so we could see more of the coast on our way home. I would say this was quite an adventure we had and we loved every minute. Especially the hammock on the porch!!
My wife and I recently stayed at the cabbage palm cottage and could not have had a better time. The cottage extremely comfortable and the owners, Steve and Laura, are friendly and responsive. The cottage has dock access. We brought our own boat but you don't have to have one. There is and island ferry. This is a fishing paradise. We Bull and Turtle bay as well as Boca Grande Pass as well as the many artificial reefs off shore. We can't wait to come Back!
This was our first visit to Little Gasparilla, and we loved it. The visit requires planning, since you have to bring all your provisions with you; no running out to the Publix for the dozen eggs you forgot. One vacation staple you don't have to carry with you is books: the house has a great collection of all kinds of books to read, including many children's books. You can read the books while lounging in the big rope hammock on the screened porch. The house is well-maintained and just a short walk to either the Gulf or the Sound. The entire island, not just the house, is dog-friendly. The year-round residents were welcoming; the whole island had a charming and friendly atmosphere. Because there are no cars on the island, the place is quiet. The occasional hum of a golf cart blends with the sounds of nature. We visited in late January when the ospreys are building their nests and their high-pitched calls fill the air. We saw kingfishers, great blue herons, black skimmers, royal terns, a frigate bird, red-shouldered hawk, dolphins, beautiful sunsets and lots of stars. Besides long walks on the beach, I loved meandering the roads down the center of the island, following signs that led me to the "library" and a resident artist's gallery. I have only one caveat, and it has nothing to do with the house. Red tide conditions had us coughing. There were no dead fish washing up on the shore, or other signs of the red tide, but there was enough of it out to sea in the area that, depending on the wind direction, we coughed and the dog sneezed. These coughing spells didn't last long, and it wasn't really a problem for us, but if you have asthma, it could be. So do your research on that. The Florida Fish & Game Department posts daily conditions. In summary, this was a wonderful house. You can feel the hospitality of the owners from the moment you arrive.
