History of the house
Our house was part of an ambitious construction project of the newly founded GDR.
It was built in 1953 as a kindergarten.
In Poland, a then very modern LPG plant was built, the u. a. from the
KiTa (with 2 apartments, infirmary and crèche), post office, well equipped
Residential buildings for employees of the LPG, large workshops, grocery store
(Consumption) and a house with dance hall, pub and wine bar existed.
This made Polßen a popular place to live and attractive to the people of the surrounding villages.
After the GDR collapsed in 1989, the LPG was closed. The surrounding houses have been privatized and lovingly restored over the years
rehabilitated their present owners.
The former KiTa was not used and stood empty since 1993.
At the end of 2015 we bought the dilapidated building and started to repair it carefully and in a lot of own work. It was not about a smooth repair, but to get traces of its history in the house.
The part we offer as a holiday home is ready.
The other part will now gradually be repaired and in the future as a studio
In the village of Polßen live in about 200 people. Polßen is located in the heart of the Uckermark, directly at the Bioshärenreservat Schorfheide-Chorin.
The Uckermark is considered one of the most sparsely populated and most beautiful landscapes in Germany and is characterized by an unusually rich and diverse flora and fauna.
Directly from the house it goes over the village street at the manor and the church (from the 13th century) over on foot or by bike in the Feldmark- with some stunningly beautiful views over the hilly landscape.
The Lower and the Oberuckersee are easy to reach by bike through the fields over Warnitz or the car.
Day trips to the Oderbruch can also be made by bike - the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the beech forests near Grumsin / Angermünde, are a worthwhile trip.
