Amazing views, lovely pool, great area of Sicily to explore
We have just stayed in Villa Aurigia for a week and had a great time exploring the area around Syracuse. Syracuse itself is a fantastic place to visit and is about 25 minutes away, Noto is also very interesting and there are nice beaches in Fontane Bianche and Avola, which we visited. The outside area of the villa is absolutely stunning - amazing views for miles around and the pool area is lovely. There is also a large shaded terrace to protect you from the heat. The inside area could do with some modernisation, but it was very clean throughout. There is also a very comprehensive information folder which the owner had kindly put together. The main downsides are the feral stray cats that routinely patrolled our villa, particularly when we tried to cook outside, and the area approaching the villa, which was about a 10 minute car journey from Floridia - it is very barren yet absolutely strewn with litter, which had been dumped at the roadside. I think it is also worth pointing out that the online information about the villa does not tell you that you will be charged an additional fee for electricity - this is only apparent once you pay the deposit to book the property. Overall though, we had a fantastic holiday and thoroughly enjoyed this area of Sicily.
Thank you for your comment which help us to increase
the level of the villa and our service on site.
Concerning the cats it must be point out, that there are guests
who feet them on the veranda, even when telling them not to do so.
In this way cats get used to and when the next guests arrive they are not able to discern between the two different ways of behaviour. Very simple way to fix this point is not to feet them at all.
Concerning the electricity cost please note that we DO NOT HAVE
any hidden costs. All services included are clearly reported, as well
as the fact that the electricity costs are to be paid on site.
Please note that everything is reported on the description of the
villa and visible BEFORE any booking procedure, so that everyone knows exactly all terms.
A Lovely Stay
We enjoyed our stay very much. The pool and outside area is beautiful, with wonderful views. My only criticism would be the kitchen is slightly under equipped if you plan to cook - a good chopping board is needed! Close to Syracuse/Ortigia and Floridia a short drive away for shopping and morning coffee.
The agent was very helpful, and I would recommend this property.
If you are looking for a slice of real Sicily, away from the touristy locations then look no further. The main attraction of this property is, as the description says, the outside space and beautiful swimming pool. The views take your breath away and we never tired of looking at them, either when we were relaxing by the pool, or enjoying the cool shade of the huge veranda. The villa itself I would describe as being of a reasonable standard - very clean but fairly basic compared to others we have stayed in (hence the 4 stars). The bed was very comfortable, the shower was adequate but it could do with a little bit of modernising in the kitchen. But what really what mattered to us was the outside space, as this is where are spending most of your time. This more than made up for any shortcomings internally, it really is such a beautiful spot and the owner clearly takes pride in maintaining the grounds. It's a little off the beaten track and you definitely need a car (as well as nerves of steel to drive around town centres - put it this way, they don't adhere to the highway code as we know it in the UK!! And would definitely recommend sat nav). It's up a very bumpy track so we were a bit concerned initially about the hire car but fortunately it came out unscathed! The nearest town/shops (Floridia) was about a 10 minute drive away. Not too much to do in Floridia itself (there was a fantastic bakery though - thoroughly recommended!! Dont miss the arancini and the bread is to die for) but not too much further away is Syracuse and Ortigia, which we visited most days. Here you will find all you could want in markets, cafes and restaurants serving amazing food and wine, gelato, pastry shops and little artisan shops to explore. And of course there are the many amazing archeological sites and the pretty harbour. There are apparently a number of sandy beaches within a short drive; we only managed one day at the beach at Avola and would recommend that for a safe place to swim with lovely warm water and plenty of amenities. Nearby Noto is a great place to explore too, with the most amazing architecture and history.
This was our first trip to Sicily. It took us a couple of days to settle in and 'get used' to the Sicilian way of life, but we soon fell under its charm and would recommend this villa to anyone looking for a real slice of Sicily, in a quite and tranquil location but with plenty to do nearby if you can tear yourself away from the pool!
We will do our best to modernise also the kitchen.
An exclusive golf resort is just a short 5 minute drive from the villa.
