About the property

Private ocean view home that sleeps 8-10 people. A/c, 3 Bathrooms. Free WiFi.

Casa de K Beach House is a bright, spacious, and airy 2000+ sq ft home built on a 1/2 acre. It is the perfect home for large or small groups (accommodates up to 10 people). On the main floor (2nd level) there is a Master Suite (with a/c, balcony access, ocean view and a private bathroom), a Junior Suite (with a/c, jungle views and a shared bathroom), and a loft (with two double beds and a shared bathroom). The ground floor (1st level) has two rooms each with a set of bunk beds and a bathroom. There is hot water available throughout the house. There is a large storage area for all your gear, as well as washer and dryer.

The house offers a relaxing living area with plenty of sitting room for all, as well as a large balcony with majestic ocean and island views. There is also a small balcony in the back to enjoy the alluring jungle scene. While sitting on the balconies, one can be serenaded by the ocean waves and jungle noises (birds, howler monkeys, tree frogs, etc). The balconies are perfect spots for enjoying the surrounding landscape filled with tropical foliage (plants, flowers and fruit trees) which draws a variety of tropical birds.

The house is located in a peaceful setting just outside of town, and is close enough to easily enjoy the local charm of Bocas Town. There are three full service restaurants close to the house, and many more just minutes away by taxi. It is a pleasant, culture immersing 45-60 minute walk to the center of Bocas Town.

This home offers a spacious, comfortable and relaxing location to hang out, but also provides a secure home base while you explore all the area has to offer - exploring Isla Colon and surrounding islands: hiking, swimming, boogie boarding, surfing, taking a catamaran tour, snorkeling/diving, sampling local cuisine, shopping, taking Spanish lessons, going on a tour of the Botanical Garden, viewing wildlife, fishing, horseback riding, looking for shells, etc.

Upon arrival in Bocas del Toro, property management staff can help arrange taxis for transportation and grocery shopping, as well as tours, and any other services you may be interested in.

This house is perfect for those who want to kick back and relax in a place where the untouched tropical rain forest meets the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean!

About Kristin

Hola! My name is Kristin Bacon. I have been an Alaskan resident for 19 years, and need my soul kissed by the tropical sun and surf on a regular basis. I instantly felt as though I had arrived home when I got off the plane in Bocas del Toro for the first time in 2006. Currently, I own a pediatric therapy business in Alaska, as well as train and race Alaskan Huskies. For me, Bocas Town and this house offer the right combination of simplicity, relaxation, nature, culture and adventure.

Kristin purchased this house in 2009

Why Kristin chose Bocas del Toro Province

I chose this property because of its peaceful location and quality construction, as well as the sound/view of the ocean waves and easy access to surfing. These features made this property ideal to me. I also love the abundance of wildlife that can be seen and heard around the house.

What makes this house unique

I love the tranquility this home offers!! Casa de K's private location allows me to simply enjoy the sights and sounds of the ocean, tropical foliage and variety of wildlife. And, as a surfer this property is hard to beat. Additionally, there is easy access to all that Bocas has to offer -- cultural diversity, water sports, many restaurants, shopping, adventures, Spanish classes, yoga, organized tours, etc.

Guestbook comments from the manager

"Dear Kristin you were a very important part on us having a great time. Thanks for taking care of our needs. I don't know if any other owner would have done what you did.

I am very thankful and hope you rent your house like no other owner in Bocas. Hope it is full all the time... you deserve it!!!!

Thanks again for letting my family stay at your place!!! Tyson was great ...keep him... he can deliver!!!!

God bless and thanks for all!!!"

Alaska girlz loved Bocas!

  • 5 of 5

Casa de K was all that we needed and more. Clean great space, amazing location, what more could you ask for? 🙂

Spent the days watching Suzy, (the residential sloth) monkeys and beautiful birds from the back deck. Lazily enjoyed the crashing surf from the front deck.

I’ll be back!

Nice place for a large group

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Casa K. The property managers were very helpful and available for all of our needs. The property is beautiful, with ocean views in the front and tropical forest in the back. From the decks we heard howler monkeys and saw a sloth in the back yard, in addition to red lored parrots, various motmot and hummingbird, grosbeak, and various woodpecker - one pair was nesting in a yellow coconut in the front yard. A papaya fell from the tree in the back yard and it was the best papaya we have EVER eaten. The bathrooms are very nice and the beds were comfortable. We had several house gecko which provided for a lot of entertainment and bug control.

Golf carts, although a bit pricey, are worth the cost. The town is a solid 3.5 miles from the house. We did not make it to the Botanic Garden which is just down the road on the way back to town. Do make reservations ahead of time, as they only offer limited times and days. The beach is narrow and not a good swimming beach, but good for a walk in the surf and shell collecting. The were some amazing breaks, which would appeal to a confident surfer. To the south, about 3/4 of a mile there is a sandy beach where swimming was pleasant with children.

The house is comfortable and the deck is well furnished. A few improvements would make this place perfect. Several windows were missing screens, there were roaches and pests in the lower rooms, and the air conditioning was not working in one of the bedrooms. The kitchen would benefit by the addition of microwave safe plates, a muffin tin, sharpened knives, and a couple more pots and pans. Beach towels are not provided and this was an inconvenience, as we were traveling with small luggage.

Overall, the service provided by Chris and Shiela was outstanding. The town is quaint with a wide variety of bars and placed to eat. The location is secluded, but close enough to town. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!

Beautiful property right on the beach in Bocas!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great home outside of Bocas town with beach in front of it and jungle behind it! We spent the mornings watching wildlife in the yard. One morning we saw a mama sloth with a baby climbing around, a couple mornings we saw monkey families jumping around and eating, and every morning we saw all kinds of lovely birds- it was so special! The beds and pillows could have been a bit more comfortable, but everything else about the home was great! It was open, clean and spacious. The front porch is perfect for hanging out in the evenings.

There are a couple of great bar/restaurants in walking distance. Bocas town isn't walkable, but taxis went by or could be called easily, and it seemed to be a standard $3 per person rate for the ride. The beaches in this area aren't great for swimming, but you can easily take a boat from Bocas town to a good swimming beach, like Red Frog Beach.

Chris and the management company were super helpful and responsive! They picked us up from the airport, had a cell phone for us at the house with their numbers and taxi numbers, and were available for any questions or extra help we needed. I'd definitely stay at one of their places again!

A tropical dream.

  • 5 of 5

This house was ideal for the four of us to spend a relaxing week near jungle and beach. It has beautiful maintained gardens and backs up to a jungle where you can hear and see wildlife. It is well appointed and I never felt like it was lacking anything that would be needed. A few minutes walk and you can arrive at a wonderful beach and even catch an exotic drink along the way. The town of Bocas (about 3 miles away) is a surf and fishing town so has attracted many wonderful restaurants and offers many tours for diving and island hopping. We rented a golf cart for the week which proved to be invaluable (especially at night coming home in a sudden rainstorm).

I highly recommend this property and look forward to going back.

Casa de K = Tranquil slice of paradise!!!!

  • 5 of 5

If you’re looking for a relaxing spot to enjoy the jungle and the beach yet still be within walking proximity to town then look no further than Casa de K! As you drive down the road leading to the house, you’ll notice the lush forest on your left and beautiful waves crashing on your right. The house itself is enveloped in beautiful native foliage inviting to many tropical birds that you're sure to enjoy (binoculars and cameras are a must). Howler monkeys frolicked among the trees bordering Casa de K...we heard them almost daily and watched them from the back deck multiple times during our week-long adventure. My favorite was the day we caught glimpses of a baby howler monkey being carried on its mother's back. Such a sweet moment to see and a lasting memory for sure! A few of the standout moments from our time in Bocas and at Casa de K: island-hopping on water taxis, visiting various beaches: (Red Frog, Paunch, Starfish, and Bluff), snorkeling at the blue coconut, relaxing in the hot pools, the botanical gardens, howler monkeys and their offspring, toucans, hummingbirds, parrots, sloths, the tropical flowers, jellyfish, starfish, watching surfers do their thing (while drinking coffee/having breakfast on the front deck), the unbelievable weather (accompanied by a few thunderstorms and rain that cooled us off and put us to sleep as it danced upon the metal roof), amazing dinners in town at El Ultimo Refugio and Bluff Beach at The Hummingbird. Thank you so much for welcoming us into your home, Kristin. We were sad to leave and look forward to visiting again. It was truly a vacation of a lifetime!

A WONDERFUL stay at Casa de K!!!

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot full capture the absolutely amazing time we had at the oceanside home of Casa de K and in Bocas del Toro!! I simply did not want to leave!!! The home was clean, well-furnished, comfortable and spacious. Lounging on the front porch in the hammocks, couch or chairs while watching and listening to the waves, seeing the tropical birds, feeling the ocean breezes, and sinking into pure relaxation was incredible and almost dream-like!! We also were treated to monkeys in the backyard trees on three occasions during our week-long stay! During sunrise walks down the road, we saw toucans, monkeys, and countless tropical birds. During our visit to the nearby botanical garden, we even saw a sloth! We enjoyed watching the surfers from the front porch while drinking our coffee in the morning. During our time in Bocas town, we enjoyed numerous delicious meals, the highlight being Ultimo Refugio for dinner. We took water taxis to various islands to destinations such Red Frog Beach on Bastimentos (the warmest water and best beach I've ever visited) and The Blue Coconut for lunch and snorkeling. I have traveled all over the world and stayed in a wide variety of accommodations. This trip stands out as one of my absolute favorites!

There is a surf break in front of the house (TigerTail), as well as several others within walking distance (Paunch, Dumpers, Bluff) from the house. If one was staying in town, it would require a 3 mile walk, a taxi or water taxi to bring you out to these breaks. This is a HUGE advantage to surfers! (direct assessment of swell, convenient access, secure storage area for your boards) These breaks are the most popular surfing spots in Bocas. This is an ideal location for folks hoping to surf during your visit to Bocas del Toro. This is one of the few locations in Bocas where transportation is not required to access surf breaks.

To Bird Watchers - some of the birds seen at this property are the Toucan, Montezuma Oropendola, Kiskadee, a variety of woodpeckers, etc.

Howler monkeys can be seen and heard at the house.

There is at least one sloth we see regularly on the property.

There is a Pack and Play for families with an infant/toddler

You can walk about 5 minutes to a sheltered cove for a quick dip in the ocean or sipping a cocktail. There are small fish to see, if you take a mask down with you.

There is a beachside bar 5 minutes walk to the left and right of the house that offer food and drinks. There is a swimming pool, ping pong table, surf board and ATV rental at Skully's (to the right of the house/toward town).
