Our family's moved to Alaska in the early 70's. We moved here for the Alaskan Experience. During our pursuit of that experience the family became involved in staking out Alaskan Open-Entry land and taking advantage of public land auctions. The land this cabin sets on was purchased at auction. Our family grew up on this property and the 5 acres next door. Our children were raised here on weekends and summers at the cabin. We have built and re-built generator systems and installed off-grid electrical systems that now allow the cabins to be enjoyed year round. We have fished the lake extensively in winter and summer... we really know where to catch the Pike that dominate Amber Lake. We've explored the surrounding area in summer and winter for the past 20 years and can tell you where to go for a great experience all year round. We even found the submerged island in the middle of the lake. Let us show you where it is the next time you come to Amber Cove Cabin.
Tom Hardwick purchased this house in 2009
My mother purchased this property at a Alaska State Land Auction, site unseen in 1973 when Amber Lake was a fly-in only lake property. Ten years later the road was pushed back to Amber Lake. We then made our first ATV adventure to Amber Lake. This property took our breath away and soon we began building our first cabin. After almost 15 years of week-ends and summers at the cabin and 100's of repeat guests we finished our second cabin on the adjacent lot. We are very proud of our NEW cabin, because it boasts all the things we did correctly when building and furnishing the first cabin. We think Amber Cove Cabin will give our guests the best cabin experience ever.
Amber Lake is a semi-remote recreation area with fantastic Pike fishing-- nearby streams and lakes offer some of Alaska's finest Salmon, Trout, & Pike fishing. It is less than 20 minutes from Petersville road recreation area. Petersville recreation area is located near the south end of Denali National Park with extensive ATV and snow machine trails. There are also 100's of miles of trails directly from the cabin. Amber Lake is a 2 mile long lake and is perfect for a full spectrum of water sports and winter sports. Float planes often fly in to Amber Lake from Anchorage. Air taxi service can be arranged.
Thank you for providing such a lovely cabin, stocked with so many amenities. We so enjoyed the cozy indoor activities during the soggy weather and ALL the lake fun and outdoor activities during the sunshine! Sadly, no fish or bear sightings, but the crystal clear view of Denali, a real treat!
We could not have asked for a nicer getaway as a family... just perfect!
God Bless,
We enjoyed Christmas at the cabin, everything was well setup and stocked. Great sleeping arrangements and well stocked kitchen.
Our only suggestion would be to update/upgrade the satellite tuner and TV upstairs. They worked but would be much nicer in HD like downstairs.
We stayed here for the first half of our honeymoon at the end of September and it was great! A perfect house for what we wanted. My husband loved being able to fish right from the backyard and I loved the swing! It's pretty secluded, do keep that in mind, but I would definitely recommend this place!
This was a wonderful place to stay. The cabin was very comfortable and spacious. The kitchen was stocked with all the dishes, pots and pans and other equipment needed for cooking. There was fishing equipment, a sea kayak and a paddle boat that we used and completely enjoyed. We caught a total of 6 northerns. Wonderful and relaxing place to stay.
The house was clean and cozy. The waterfront experience with the Kayaks is what we enjoyed best. We paddled all the way to the south end, about a 20 min paddle, and were able to get some amazing views of Denali. Caught a couple small pike from the dock with the poles provided.
We celebrated a 50th Birthday with a 10 day trip to Alaska. We were looking for a cabin that put us in the "Alaskan Frame of Mind" and we hit the jackpot with this one. The cabin is in a beautiful remote setting, yet it has all the essential comforts. Nice clean furnishings, all the kitchen supplies you need, linens, TV (we didn't really watch TV, the beautiful lake and firepit were too enticing to resist), kayaks, paddle boat, etc.
Hal and Nancy (caretakers) will meet you and give you a quick "orientation" of the cabin. They are always a phone call away should you need anything and are a lot of fun too. We spent an evening around the campfire with them and enjoyed there company very much. Swapped a few stories and laughed a lot. Wonderful people.
Keep in mind, this is a remote cabin. It is a drive off the Parks Highway. This was not an issue for us, it gave us the opportunity to see more of Alaska. If you are planning to visit Denali NP, it is 2.5 hours away. Plan to get up very early. The best part of leaving early is the wildlife. We were able to see moose, caribou, eagles, etc. on our drive to Denali. It will make a long day but - - the days are long in Alaska during summer. I would not change where we stayed due to the drive. Alaska is BIG, expect long drives and take advantage of them. Pull over, take pictures, stop and take a hike, . . .
Talkeetna is about an hour away. It is a must see little town. We had breakfast at the Roadhouse where we encountered a mountaineer with frostbite on his nose. Chris who works at Nagley's gave us a few tips on where to hike for the best views. He was spot on. We also took a flightseeing trip with Dave at N2 Alaska. AMAZING flight!!! Then we had dinner at Mile High Pizza Pie - delicious pizza.
Again, the cabin was perfect and I would highly recommend them to anyone. We will miss Amber Lake and hope to return someday to this little piece of heaven.
This is a beautiful lakeside cabin off the beaten path. We spent 2 nights and enjoyed the peace and quiet. We went snow shoeing all over the lake! The cabin is clean and well stocked and is exactly as advertised. The caretakers are wonderful and are full of helpful information.
A fleet of Mountain Bikes are available for your use during your stay helmet's are encouraged on the gravel road there is no fee for their use. Fire wood is also provided.
