Enjoy our tropical retreat on the beautiful Island of North Captiva, Florida. North Captiva is a remote island several miles off shore and is accessible by water taxi, private boat or small plane. Upon arriving on the Island you will travel by golf cart as there are no cars on the Island. North Captiva is a pristine, idyllic island that boasts some of the best shelling in the world. Miles of beautiful white sandy beaches, 350 acres of state preserves with lush foliage and incredible wildlife comprise this special destination. Additionally guests may use the North Captiva Island Club during their stay. The club is complete with an adult pool, a children's pool, tennis courts, a fitness center, rental kayaks, jet-skis and more. There is abundant fishing from the beaches, docks, boats or enjoy guided fishing charters. Enjoy watching the playful dolphins and large manatees on the bayside of the island.
I am an English Physical Therapist and my American husband is a Strength and Conditioning Coach. We live in New York City. We got married on North Captiva in 2011. We love to escape the fast pace and noise of the city to the peace, beauty and nature of North Captiva. There are no cars, it is quiet, with beautiful sandy beaches, amazing sunsets, great fishing, wonderful long walks, fabulous swimming in the Gulf, and lots of interesting wildlife which we love to photograph. This is where we come to relax, unwind, and re-energise. Owning this house is a dream come true - an unspoiled, back to nature island.
Annie Gow purchased this house in 2009
We first visited North Captiva in 2007 as we had friends living on the island. We fell in love with the island and then had the opportunity to actually purchase a home here - the minute we get on the ferry we leave all our stresses behind. We LOVE IT!!
Our home is a very 'modern - one of a kind' beach house, which is exquisitely decorated with high end furniture, a well equipped kitchen (I love to cook so there is everything that one would need), beautiful bed linens and above all CLEAN!! The bath in the master bathroom is a great place to relax with a bubble bath and a glass of wine - sheer decadence!! Outside, the garden is well maintained and we often have dinner outside or just watch the world go by in our beautiful signature orange chairs. We love the views, the sunsets, and sunrises from the roof - which can be great for cocktail hour or the early morning cup of tea or coffee. The ability to do absolutely 'NOTHING' and not worry about it is a wonderful feeling!! Boat trips to nearby islands and dolphin watching is fun, as is fishing from the beach and shelling - have found fabulous shells and sand dollars. There are lots of photo opportunities of wildlife, sunsets and nature, and we absolutely love just BEING!! Just a minutes walk to the beautiful beach - and it is even more amazing at sunrise and sunset. Once you have experienced North Captiva you will never want to leave!!
We had such a great time, it was an adventure beginning with the boat ride over - the captian of island girl was great and circled around the dolphins for us... Lois met us to escort us to the blue door villa... The kids reaction when we walked into the front door was priceless and I think you would have enjoyed hearing it, they all were yelling WOW! There were so many things to love, the artistic flare, the architechture, the blue door (i loved) the orange chairs, the zen stone garden, the view from the top of the stairs to the bottom of the stairs, the soft linens and pillows, the roof top view, the stone showers, and all the splashes of color throughout your home!
We saw manatee, dolphins, sand sharks, turtles and snakes (yuk), the sun was shining from morning to dusk every day was a perfect 80 degrees, the ocean was a perfect aqua blue, the sunsets were breathtaking, and the stars never ever seemed so close... I felt like I was on another planet... so good to get away from civilization for a moment!
We cooked great food and had lots of laughs... We had a pirate/treasure hunt and all the kids dressed up like pirates - even the adults and we put pirate flags on the golf carts and we led the kids through a maze of hunting for clues leading to an awesome treasure buried in the sand at the beach... I think they will remember this trip forever! We found so many interesting things about the island, pieces of ships buried in the sand, tons of driftwood that formed beautiful pieces for photography, coves of shallow water behind the rocks and so many things that were interesting along our beach walks.
It was a home away from home... I hope to go back again very soon!
Perfect location on North Captiva for 2 couples or Family of 4/5. Nice modern amenities and staff made sure everything was clean and ready for us.
Location is great with quick walk to beach or NCIC Pools. Nice beach chairs and towels provided. Large rooftop deck to watch the sunset.
Probably would not leverage first floor apartment, due to all plumbing running just overhead and heating/cooling was inconsistent. That room requires some patching. This is something small compared to rest of the property. It is lovely and unique on the island.
It is one of the best properties on the island. We would definitely stay again and I would recommend to a family of 4/5.
The Blue Door Villa is an amzaing home that has rooftop views of the ocean and great sunsets in the evening. There are balcony's on every floor that are enclosed with a screen so you can have the sliding doors open and the many sliding windows throughout the other side of the home to enjoy the most amazing tropical breeze blow by you...it's so relaxing! You can also hear the sounds of the ocean waves when sitting on the balcony of the living room area in the morning when drinking your coffee or in the evening while sipping wine. This trip was filled with moments of relaxation and serenity. The hammock outback is delightful and perfectly placed under some trees to offer shade while you are rocking, even in the afternoon sun. Annie provides everything you could need from fluffy beach and bath towels, household amenities, beach chairs and bags. One of the most charming things that you don't usually experience anywhere else is that there are no cars or paved roads and everyone is zooming along in golf carts on dirt roads. You feel like you are in a disneyland ride! It's pretty cool! The house is immaculate and clean and the Kitchen has everything a gal could want with the most high end appliances, pans (TFal) and knives (Ceramic and Henkels)--yes I love my kitchen ware! The island also has amazing beaches with so many shells (go north of the "Airport" to find the small secluded beach), unlike anything I've ever seen--it looks like someone poured a huge truck of shells on the beach...it's unlike anything I've ever seen. It was 80 degrees and sunny everyday! We went to the beach, we went to the pool club, we drank alot of frozen drinks at Mangos, we kayaked, we walked on the beach, swang in the hammock, and rented a boat and went to other islands on the last day. Now I have a fabulous tan! I would definitely recommend the Blue Door Villa to anyone who wants to go to a tropical oasis away from it all to just relax.
The Blue Door Villa was a wonderful modern home with a European feel. We traveled there with another couple and spent a week in March. Each room had its own private bathroom and we're all decorated nicely. The kitchen was amazing to cook in and had everything I could think of! A true chefs dream for a vacation home. The house was also equipped with everything we needed- beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, pool floaters, beach bags, etc. The backyard has a relaxing hammock and we spent each night on the roof deck for sunset! The beach is a 3 minute walk and it was never crowded. Annie also provided our group with two golf carts, which made getting around great! We had such a relaxing time. We are hoping to come back with our family one day!
We just returned home from a 1 week stay at the Blue Door Villa and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique, well appointed home in a great location. The home is beautiful, from the private yard (loved the hammock), outdoor shower on the ground level to the ocean view bedroom on the 4th level. From the 3rd level, where the open concept kitchen, living and dining rooms are, you have a 360 degree view of the island. I love the floor to ceiling windows that make you feel you are one with the outdoors. There are 5 decks---2 screened in (on front of house) so it's only a couple of steps to the outdoors from any level of the house. Rest assured, everything you would need in a kitchen is there---no need to drag anything along with you----we even set a fancy table one night using the beautiful placemats, chargers and napkins available in the dining room (several options available if you're the creative type). The property was very clean and the staff took great care of us. The kids loved puttzing around the island on the golf carts and the best beach is just at the end of the street. We spent a lot of time checking out other vacation rentals (for fun) and concluded this location is the best on the island. A couple of suggestions, plan your grocery shopping well or you will be eating out with limited (but enjoyable) options. We liked Mangoes at the pool the best (convenient and good food---try the grouper sandwich with onion rings) but also liked On the Waterfront for an entertaining lunch or dinner (make reservations in advance---it's a small place). The chef likes to make sure you have a few laughs while dining---we highly recommend the conch fritters and the rack of ribs (you will definitely have leftovers). The pools were just great---the kids LOVED them and the hot tub was quite welcomed on a chilly day in February. We made an afternoon of kayaking (grandma, that's me, tipped over, we all got a good laugh) to Shelter Harbor, stopped for lunch, and made our way back to Mangoes for some pool time. We saw dolphins, a family of manatees and watched a couple of planes land on the airstrip. The only thing that was a bit challenging about the rental is that we had a 20 month old with us and the open staircase required some creative thinking to keep her safe. Overall it was a wonderful vacation and our rental was fabulous. We highly recommend it! Thank you, Annie and Laurie!
This was my family's first trip to North Captiva and we had a fantastic time despite some finicky weather. The Blue Door Villa suited our needs perfectly! The house is beautiful and nicely appointed. We had everything we needed. Annie and her team were very responsive and wonderful to deal with, helping us prepare for our trip and making sure everything went well once we were on island. It takes a bit of effort to get out there but it was worth it. We spent our days on the beach, which was a short ride/walk down the sandy street. It was never crowded. Evenings at the house, with wine on the roof deck and views of the gulf. I can't comment on the restaurants or the island club because we never made use of them. If you're feeling adventurous, definitely explore the hiking trails on the southern end of the island. They lead to a beautiful sandy beach where you feel like you're all alone on the island. We didn't see another person the whole afternoon. Truly one of the most relaxing trips I have ever taken. We will definitely return to the Blue Door Villa in the future. Thank you Annie!
This was our second stay and we will come back next year. North Captiva is an unspoiled, peaceful tropical paradise unlike anything we've ever seen. No roads, telephone poles or wires, or ugly signs. Just exotic vegetation, sand and ocean. And Blue Door Villa is one of the best houses on the island. The rooms are beautiful and very nicely furnished and the house was designed for easy living and fun. The views from every window are breathtaking (there are screened in porches everywhere as well) and the best beach on the island is only a minute away. While swimming just off the shore, my son had a manatee swim by and stop to be petted. My wife was treated to dolphins swimming and jumping just feet away from where she was swimming. If you want to spend quality time with friends and family in an especially peaceful setting, this is the place.
