Located in a quiet neighborhood (with the ocean on one side and trees and city park on the other) our property overlooks the entrance channel to Kodiak's largest boat harbor ... home to many of the 'Deadliest Catch' boats. Just minutes from downtown Kodiak, our home faces due south, you are blessed with spectacular views of the ocean. Relax with a cup of tea and watch the sun or moon rise; boats cruise by - along with sea otters, eagles, sea lions--even leaping salmon.
The property is surrounded by vegetable and flower gardens, including the elusive Himalayan blue poppy. Throughout our home, you'll discover many examples of Marion's artwork, including photographs (printed on canvas) and mosaic pieces. It's not unusual to hear bald eagles 'screeching' nearby or 'exhale puffs' from sea lions, humpback whales or killer whales as they swim by.
The apartment suite has a private entrance and consists of 3 bedrooms: A queen bedroom and 2 rooms with two single beds in the rooms. The rooms with single beds also have a nice vanity area. The color scheme is natural and inviting, and each room is decorated with a custom painted mural. The rooms have access to a common lounge and dining area and a completely stocked kitchen-- this is where you'll find our homemade granola. We're happy to share the recipe. (Many guests say it's the best they've ever had. It makes a great gift, by the way.)
The shower, sink/washroom and toilet are all conveniently located in separate rooms. This apartment suite is an ideal arrangement for independent travelers, business folks, family vacationers or groups. (We also have a deluxe guest room available for rent).
We invite you to visit Kodiak's Cliff House B&B: Renew where nature meets hospitality.

Marty and Marion Owen are long time residents of Kodiak, Alaska. Marty is the local harbormaster for the City of Kodiak. His family roots go back to the 1930's, which means he has lots of stories. Marion is an award-winning, professional photographer with over 25 years of published images. A chef, writer and passionate gardener, she also co-authored the New York Times bestseller, Chicken Soup for the Gardener's Soul. Together Marty and Marion conduct gourmet dinner cruises and wildlife viewing trips aboard their 42-foot yacht. Best of all, they enjoy showing guests the best of Kodiak Island.
Marion and Marty Owen purchased this apartment in 2007
Though Alaska is the largest state in the U.S., when it comes to friendly and helpful people, it's the smallest, in that you are part of an extended family no matter where you go. That said, we love Kodiak Island and enjoy living by the ocean. So after waiting 38 years for this property, we built our home with guests' needs in mind: Pleasant views through big windows, peace and quiet, great food .. .renew where nature meets hospitality.
It's a 10-minute walk from downtown Kodiak, a bustling, year-round community based on the commercial fishing industry. We have lived in Kodiak for many years, thus we know the ins and outs of the area and can help with your vacation plans.
Our family of six includes 4 daughters ages 16-22. We arrived in Kodiak late on a Saturday evening to find the apartment clean and inviting, exactly as we anticipated. Marion was there to greet us and show us where things were. The bedrooms were cozy and well represented by the photos on this site. The kitchen and living area were comfortable and the fridge was stocked. Marion loves to bake surprises and more than once we were rewarded with goodies when we returned from our days events. This apartment was the perfect place for us to get away and relax for a week while we tried to "live like the locals". I'm afraid we did sort of stand out in a good way though, and when asked where we were staying we proudly said "we are staying with Marion and Marty Owen". That information was invariably met with admiration and comments like "then you are well cared for!". The Owens are superb hosts and made us feel extremely welcome. They were never intrusive but were always very ready to answer questions and give suggestions.
Mornings as we were getting ready to leave Marion would pull out one of her waterproof Kodiak maps and point out things to see and places to go along the way and then would fold the map and tell me to take it with me, "but be sure to bring it back" was always part of the instructions. She needs these maps to send with future guests. I liked the map so much that after returning hers I went down to the Visitors Center and purchased one of my own.
While on Kodiak we enjoyed walking to downtown from this property. The highlights included Sea Hawk air flight out to see the bears , as well as a dinner cruise on the yacht owned by Marty and Marion. One daughter and I were able to spend some time going out with Marion to photograph landscapes and wildflowers, this is very worthwhile if you are serious about learning to improve your photography skills. There are countless beautiful places to hike and take pictures. Be sure to go to the WW II museum at Fort Abercrombie State Park.
Recommended places to eat include Henry's Great Alaskan Restaurant for a sit down dinner. Java Flats has wonderful sandwiches and beverages and cookies in a very quaint and beautiful setting. Monk's Rock Coffee House is excellent for soup, salad, coffee, tea and pastries. Sparrows has wonderful pizza, if the restaurant is crowded then take it back to the apartment you will be glad you did.
We were so happy with our week on Kodiak and staying in this property was the best part.
My wife and I have just returned from a 5 night stay at this property. It was all we could have hoped for and more. The views are spectacular, the furnishings are upscale and the hospitality couldn't have been better. We highly recommend a stay there.
My wife and I do not normally stay in B&B's. Comfort and privacy, and alergy to feathers usually means we try to stay in nicer hotels. We were traveling with 2 other couples and the Cliff House B&B was highly recommended by the great folks at Sea Hawk Air. We took a chance and were very glad we did. Super clean rooms, privacy for all six of us, great granola, fresh baked cookies and muffins, fruit. Marion was extremely helpful. Made late dinner reservations, secured the only rental van on the island, and gave great tips on sites to see. Had a great time in Kodiak and will certainly go back and will certainly stay with Marion and Marty. Now our B&B issue will be to find one as great as this one!
A place to relax and catch your breath. Marion and Marty are lovely hosts and their spotless B&B is a perfect respite from the real world. Nancy and I agree that this one week spent on Kodiak Island was simply the most refreshing vacation we have ever taken.
All the best to Marion and Marty,
David & Nancy Stafford
We have had several opportunities to stay in the Owen's B&B in the last two years. We always feel welcome and the rooms are very comfortable and attractive. Marion keeps the refrigerator and cookie jar better stocked than we have seen at any other B&B. The views and gardens can't be beat. Their knowledge of the island has made our visits very entertaining. We look forward with keen anticipation to our next trip.
To experience the real Alaska you have to experience Kodiak - and there is no better place to do this Marty and Marion's B&B. They know all the secrets, be it hunting, fishing, bear viewing or just touring. The consumate hosts! Let them help eith your arrangements. Great for a family, small group or just the two of you. And be sure to book a gourmet dinner cruise.
