This delightful cottage has 2 twin-bedded rooms and a single loft bedroom over the snug as well as a garden at both the back and front, making it popular with both climbers and families. Its high ceilings make it light and airy, cool in summer and the gardens at both the back and front guarantee all day sun. From the back garden you look across the olive groves to the mountains of the National Park, the ideal place for eating al fresco. The swimming pool is also a good place to sit, read and enjoy the back drop of mountains. It is shared by the 4 cottages and is open all year round.
These converted farm cottages are over 140 years old and form part of a working farm, set between two protected National Parks and about 300 metres from the small village of El Chorro, so we are rural but not isolated. Two cottages for 2/3 and 2 for 5/6, all 4 sleep a total of 16. Just over an hour’s drive from the Costa del Sol and Malaga airport will take you into another world where you can enjoy the tranquility of the countryside. This is where almond trees blossom in January and orange blossom scents the air in springtime. A traditional Sunday destination for Spaniards from Malaga with several good restaurants that cater for them.
Prime rock climbing location and also ideal for walking, bird-watching or just relaxing by the pool.
You can enjoy water sports like canoeing or swimming and some places on the lakes are a fisherman's dream. If this seems too tame for you then you had better try either paragliding or rock climbing, courses are available, to help you enjoy the wild side of Andalusia to the full.
The accommodation: La Almona Chica is part of a working farm right in El Chorro just 300 metres from the village. The crops are olives, almonds, carobs, clementines and lemons. Most of the crops are harvested in winter. All the cottages housed either the farm labourers or the railway workers. From the gardens, with views across the olive groves to the National Park, you can often see eagles and vultures overhead. We live on site to provide any information you may require. The swimming pool is shared by the 4 cottages and is open all year, it is a good place to sunbathe, read or watch the stars at night.
Discover Andalucía from El Chorro: La Almona Chica is a good base for discovering Andalusia. It is within easy reach of Málaga, Antequera and Ronda, El Torcal, where science fiction films have been made because of its unique rock formations and Fuente de Piedra, where flamingos nest, are even nearer. You can drive to Granada, Córdoba or Seville, we can help you with information, directions and where to park. If you prefer to stay overnight, we can make hotel reservations for you. Let us know your intentions and we can help you get the most out of your holiday.
Or just relax in the quiet of the countryside, enjoy the nature parks and lakes.

A paradise for outdoor activities: There is a railway station about 300 metres from the cottages and you can take the train to Ronda or the city of Málaga. Wheat was grown all around here and from the station it was taken north to feed the large cities like Madrid.
There are 2 trains to El Chorro leaving Málaga RENFE at 10.05 and 16.48 every day and 3 back down to the city of Málaga at 09.33, 14.59 and 18.03 and there is a bus to Álora (12.30 Mondays and Fridays) or a taxi (around 22 euros). El Chorro is a prime climbing region in Spain and also attracts nature lovers in general (hiking, bird watching, mountain biking, rock climbing, para-ascending ...). A specialised shop in the village also organises 'taylor made' excursions into the mountains. Nearby you can practise para-ascending and the Sierra Nevada ski resort is only an hour and a half's drive from here. Of course you can just relax round the pool!
There is a recreation area of lakes just 6km away where you can hire canoes or pedaloes, bird watch, hike or enjoy a meal in one of the family restaurants there.

Perfectly located for climbing, short walk to the crags, beautiful views. Well equipped, only needed to bring food. Great couple who were very helpful. Easier to get to el chorro than to london!!!! definitely going again and will be booking a place here.
The room were clean, the cottage beautiful.
We wanted a place where we had good access for cimbing, some where that wasn't busy and we found it here.
The cottage was very well equipped, we didnt need to take anything with us other than food, very well laid out inside and in the evening you could just sit outside, chat and watch the eagles fly from the crags.
Wouldn't hesitate in using the cottages again and Sue and Del are great hosts.
Nous avons passé un très bon séjour, dans un endroit très agréable, au calme et près de nombreuses villes et sites à visiter. La piscine très appréciée a contribué à notre satisfaction. Nos hôtes ont été charmants, chaleureux et discrets. Merci.
The cottages are situated in El Chorro in the Guadalhorce Valley district, 60 kilometres inland from the city of Malaga, 12 kilometres from Alora, about 40 from Antequera and 45 from Ronda. You can fly into Malaga, which is about an hour's drive, or into Granada which is about an hour and a half. If you fly into Malaga the plane will start its descent over the lakes where we are. You can also come up by train, there is only one train right to El Chorro a day (none on Sundays and bank holidays) but there is a regular service to Alora, from where you can take a taxi or we will pick you up. This is a prime rock climbing area, the cottages are encircled by mountains that protect them from the cold north winds in winter. From the cottages a 5 minute walk takes you down to the village where there is a hotel, restaurant, station, bar, 2 small shops, climbing and sports shop, camp site and bar. Sandwiched between two National Parks the cottages are south facing, rural but not isolated.
