Overview

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Den, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

This is a beautifully restored colonial house in the tranquil historic neighborhood of La Ermita, standing on one of the oldest cobblestone streets in the great city of Merida. The house is centrally located nine blocks from Merida's colorful main square, nine blocks from the splendid main market, and only steps away from lovely La Ermita Park and the neighborhood's botanic garden.

The house is ideal for a couple, a cozy home with original Yucatecan doors and windows, skylights, and dazzling pasta tile floors. A generous covered outdoor dining area opens out to a patio, pool, and garden. A charming staircase leads you up to a sunny roof terrace. The large, renovated kitchen is bright, fully equipped, and cook friendly, with a dishwasher and ample storage. The master bedroom has a walk-in closet, and the modern bathroom includes a shower large enough for two. The original 18' high ceilings help keep all the rooms cool and airy.

Due to the staircase and the depth of the pool, the house may not be suitable for small children.

Upon your arrival, you will be greeted by a representative from our management company, who will help you to settle in and answer any questions you may have about the house and about the city. Airport transportation can also be provided. If you choose to rent a car, parking is readily available on the street at all times, directly in front of the house.

We invite you to make yourself at home here, and hope you will enjoy the house while you are exploring this vibrant, unique, lovely city and all the wonderful surrounding areas.

About Derrick Tseng and Teresa Mastropierro

We live in Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A., and work in film and television. We love Mexico, and have been especially drawn to Merida, the wonderful capital city of the Yucatan, and to Yucatecan culture in general.

Derrick Tseng and Teresa Mastropierro purchased this house in 2006

Why Derrick Tseng and Teresa Mastropierro chose Centro

We were attracted to Merida from having visited in the past, and were encouraged by friends who live there to look into purchasing property. It is a vibrant, growing city where tradition and modern life mix gracefully. Its location in the heart of the Yucatan makes it an ideal departure point for exploring the rest of the country. It's an easy place to spend a lot of time in -- a perfect home away from home.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy the sunny, tropical climate, the warmth of the people, the slower pace of life, the wonderful food, and the immediate connection to Yucatecan culture.

Great stay at Casa La Ermita!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I spent 9 days at Casa La Ermita and we had a fantastic time! The home is perfect for a couple with a great location and easy access to everywhere you want to be in Merida. The back yard area is really lovely and relaxing with the opportunity to be in full sun or have complete shade. We had a truly wonderful time!

Fun place to stay in an exciting city

  • 5 of 5

Everything we needed was here. We could walk to the central plaza but it was a cheap taxi fare to get anywhere if we were too lazy or hot to walk. It was spacious, had a full kitchen, outdoor living area and a plunge pool. Both the owner and property manager were very responsive. An excellent choice for independent travelers who want to live like locals.

Exceptional!

  • 5 of 5

Casa Ermita is everything we could have hoped for—very comfortable, beautiful colonial, close in to historical center, but quiet neighborhood, etc.!

Beautiful, well maintained property. Located in a great neighborhood within walking distance to parks, restaurants and the main plaza in Merida. The owners were absolutely wonderful and their management team was outstanding. The house was comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and the outdoor space and pool were private and beautiful. Generous with linens, towels, etc.

Walk out of the house, take a left and go 2 blocks to a small park and enjoy marquesitas and freshly made fries or potato chips. Out of the house, take a right, go about 4 blocks through the arches to a larger park. Easy walk to the main plaza. Grocery stores - out of house, cross street, go two blocks (Calle 75, I think).

We would happily return to Casa Ermita for our winter break!

Lovely old colonial casita

  • 5 of 5

This casita is lovely, and very well appointed. We really enjoyed our stay. The district is a bit under-serviced, but it's not too far a walk to the main square and the action.

very nice very easy walk to centro area

  • 5 of 5

had a nice time there in Merida. The owners were very helpful as was the lady that opened it and showed us around Ms. Amanda. The home has everything except a good TV but there is too much to see so we didn't need it we were too tired at the end of each night to worry much about that. The home was very nice well kept well maintained. Be advised that the street that the home is on is very busy one way cobblestone ancient street and can be loud so bring ear plugs for those who can't abide the noise when it comes to sleeping. We would and will stay here again ! There are many restaurants within walking distance. The home has a nice kitchen and a small pool, a full size washer and dryer everything was great. We used Travel Advisor to find local attractions and restaurants.
