About Pete

Avid Flyfisher people and love of Glacier National Park brought us to this area in the 1980's. Would love to spend more time there if we were only ready to retire!

Pete purchased this cabin in 2002

Why Pete chose Flathead Lake

We have owned property in the Flathead Valley since 1988 and fell in love with this location on the Swan River. Close to town, and easy access to fishing and wilderness trails.

What makes this cabin unique

Beautiful outdoor area, with boat dock and fire pit. Canoeing / kayaking - perfect launch point from gravel water access. Two kayaks with life vests available for our guests use during their stay. Wildlife can be seen in summer, more so in spring / fall time frame. Public boat ramps are not far if you want to launch a motor boat on the Swan River or on Flathead Lake. Close to hiking, fishing and the charming village of Bigfork.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our first day at your home on the Swan River was a blast. The weather was perfect, allowing us a full day of bocce ball, kayaking and just relaxing in the shade. The house is gorgeous and it is in the absolutely perfect location. We're all having a great time so far and my cocker spaniel is having a blast jumping off the dock into the water. We're all looking forward to the rest of the week. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful place with our family!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, my one year old daughter, and myself stayed here for our annual MT trip. We have been searching for a few years for a place that was the best fit for us and I am SO happy to say that this is it. The home is very organized and was SO clean. They also have a child gate for the stairs which was a must for us. We enjoyed the yard and hanging out by the river. We did come during a very hot time for Montana, from what we were told it was even more hot than normal. The only negative was that it did get really hot in the living area a few days because of this. There is only an AC unit in the bedroom. We did shut the blinds during the day to keep the sun out, but there are sky windows above the kitchen sink with no blinds. Other than this, our stay was wonderful! We cant wait to go back.

Just what we wanted!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for our wedding snniversary trip. The house was beautiful and just what we expected! The property was great; the yard backs up right to the river just as the pictures advertise and there's a great dock that if you buy a Montana fishing license for your stay you can fish off of, and my husband caught a monstrous fish that we cooked for dinner one night. We made a fire in the fire pit outside which was nice and functional. The town of Big Fork was very enjoyable with shops, restaurants, lakes, rivers and hiking locations within convenient driving distances from the home. The home was very cozy and clean and even small things like a "community cupboard" with sugar and flour, etc., for your use during your stay made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Overall our stay was great and we definitely plan to return to this specific home again and again until we buy our own place in Montana! : )

The only thing I would recommend is for pet owners: if you bring a dog on your trip I would recommend you keep it on a leash or work out beforehand the home owners speaking to the neighbors about their dogs. The neighbors dogs (3) were slightly aggressive, although small breeds and seemingly harmless, and they continued to run over to the property when we were outside; there is not a fence between the next house that can contain their small dogs, and when we first arrived they barked at our feet the whole time we unloaded the car and continued to visit us at times during our stay while we enjoyed the yard. I will say that after a couple days the dogs seemed to get more used to us and became less aggressive, and also we did not mention this to the neighbors or the rental's property manager during our stay, so to be fair we did not give them a chance to remedy this during our stay. I'm sure if we would have let them know, the property owners would have done what they could to remedy it because all my exchanges with them have been pleasant, professional, they are very accommodating, and they seem excited to share their home. We did not bring a dog on our trip but if we did I could see it being stressful as to whether all the dogs would get along.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your nice review Jarah, I 'm sorry that the neighbors dogs were a nuisance, I know that when asked they are very responsive to keeping the dogs on their own property, that being said we have many dogs visit and have never had an altercation, nor have we when our dogs are there with is. Ours are all large and the dogs next door keep their distance. Again thank you for choosing to stay with us at the Hidden River Lodge.

Swan River Peace and Privacy

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here! The temps were unseasonably warm for the summer and the home was very comfortable inside. Amazed that there were very few bugs at night for the time of year. We did enjoy nightly campfires in the gorgeous fire pit.

The house had everything that a family of 5 and a dog would need. Very clean and well maintained. The owners were great to work with!

The kids loved kayaking on the river, which offered a nice perspective of the area that we would not have seen unless the kayaks had been provided.

We did see deer in the yard, a black rabbit, a bald eagle and while fishing on the dock we saw a black bear on the opposite side of river. Then we watched him effortlessly swim across.

This is a cabin that we would definitely like to stay at again if our travels took us back to Bigfork!

This Place Is Horrible! Just kidding!

  • 5 of 5

What else are we suppose to say to keep people from renting this place when we want to!? :)

This is our second year of staying here and clearly we love it. The owners are pros! Everything is set up perfect for your arrival and they leave you with tons of information waiting for you to help make your stay easier.

The house is perfect for 2-4 people. Very cozy, During the hot days the downstairs room stays really cool and is ideal if you are a dog owner. Double doors open to the outside which is a puppy play land. The house is amply supplied. After a long day of rafting, mountain biking or taking advantage of shopping with no sales tax this is the perfect place to come home to. Mosquitos come out at dark so be sure you have repellent.

The property is beautiful and there is plenty of room to take a stroll by yourself or with your dog. Don't be alarmed if you get a visit from Mr. Parker, the dog next door. He likes to come and welcome guests but he is friendly to humans and dogs. You'll have deer and rabbits roaming the property around sunset. The location is rural enough to make you feel secluded, but, you are really close to anything you need. The grocery store is 10-15 minutes drive as are many of the good eateries. Highly recommend a trip into Kalispell for an amazing meal at Hops. http://www.hopsmontana.com/ The bacon and brie burger...amazing. Breakfast is simple. Pocketstone. You can wait close to an hour but it's worth the wait. Pancakes are the best but they do great egg dishes and the lemon-blueberry scones are amazing! Go shop for Huckleberry products two doors down while you wait!

If you are looking for a no frills, laid back vacation then this is the place to go. We look forward to going back soon. Enjoy!

Swan River Gem!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful house, wonderful location, wonderful owners to work with. What more can we say? Outstanding on every front, perfect home away from home for a family of four and a chocolate lab. Used this as a base camp for trips to Whitefish, Polebridge, Bigfork, and into Glacier. Coming back in 2015, enough said!
