|Minimum Stay||3 - 6 nights|
Some of the best fishing in the Upper MN region! Guests have caught some of their best fish (Northern, Bass, Walleye and Crappie) right off the dock on this spring fed, clear lake while others have had great stories and catches from offshore and around the lake’s centerpiece: an all-natural island with reeds, sandbars and fish-interest all around. Enjoy this very private 1000 sq ft home on 2 acres of land and 190 feet of shoreline on a quiet 300 acre lake 7 miles outside of downtown Detroit Lakes for your “up north” experience!
Inside the cabin, there are stunning views of the lake from the screened in patio, the dining table, even from the kitchen sink! This three bedroom, two bath, lake home sleeps eight adults comfortably. The house is fully furnished with all linens, pillows, towels, dishes, etc. Each of the three bedrooms have closets, queen beds and ceiling fans. The master bedroom has its own private bathroom with shower. A second bathroom with shower and washer/dryer are available for your use. The full size couch has a pull out bed if additional sleeping area is needed. The cabin is stocked with games, puzzles and a small assortment of toys for those rainy days. If it's not there, it's because we’ve never needed it in the time we’ve spent there.
Aside from the cozy cabin interior, this property offers more than just a roof to sleep under and a dock to launch the boat from. The roomy 2 acre exterior, provides ample spaces for family activities. From the many lawn spaces for outdoor games (like the included Bocce, Darts, Bean Bags), the fire pit with a natural oak tree canopy, to the gravel bottomed lake shore perfect for swimming and wading (the sunfish swim between your legs if you’re still!) there is enough room here for your family to gather for a more relaxed, less crowded vacation.
Along with the dock, a swim raft is available for your use, (there is a public boat launch 1/4 mile away). If you don’t want to bring a boat, feel free to use the canoe to explore the lake in silence. Previous guests have found that they get much closer to the island with the canoe and have been able to “swim with the loons” (the loons dive under the canoe in the shallows of the island) and to observe the bald eagle that nests on the island.
If the peace and quiet of the lake and cabin aren’t enough to calm you, you can walk or boat to Eagle Lake Resorts for one of their many day spa and relaxation events. If you feel the need for shopping or entertainment, all the amenities of the city are within a 10 minute drive. The developing communities of Detroit Lakes and Perham offer a wide variety of events, parks and restaurants that the entire family can enjoy. Frazee is a very charming community and the Frazee Turkey days are a blast. Check out the local community calendars for a listing of events and activities during your stay! Just up the road is another quaint town, Perham, MN. With some of the best shopping in the area and a few of the best coffee shops and bistros we've tried, it is sure to please.
If the active life is your thing, be sure to check out the Detroit Mountain recreation area. Offering hiking and mountain biking trails in the summer that will get the heart pumping, this new attraction is one of the best things to come to our area.
The home is available on a weekly basis May-Sept. Our rental terms are 6 night minimum stay, check in on Monday, check out on Sunday. We do not accept pets at this time.

Hello! We are Nathan and Stacey Schwendeman. We were both born and raised in Minnesota, and grew up playing on the Minnesota lakes and rivers. As adults, we now know the value of this precious resource and wanted our own little slice of heaven on one of the many beautiful waterfront properties Minnesota has to offer. Knowing that this resource is meant to share, we wanted to open our vacation property to you, fellow VRBO travelers. We have used VRBO in the past and have been very pleased with the quality of homes and caliber of people we meet. We wish to live up to the same standards. Please feel free to call or write with any questions you may have.
Stacey Schwendeman purchased this cabin in 2008
After many years of looking, we knew we wanted to purchase property in the Detroit Lakes area due to the natural beauty of the area (so many lakes with great fishing, swimming, boating camping and hiking – all our favorites!). Then it was just a matter of finding the right property on the right lake – A lake that wasn't too busy, or too small - so that you could enjoy good fishing and boating. Eagle Lake was just the right size!
This property also allows us to put some 'roots' back in our home state, and is a great place to gather with family. It is only a 45-minute drive from Fargo Regional Airport, which provides a quick connection to and from Chicago O'Hare and Minneapolis/St.Paul airports. The drive to the Twin Cities is easily made in less than 4 hours, and offers scenic views of the farms, lakes and country side.
This is our vacation home, not a commercial property. We spend our summer weeks here as well, so please be our guests and make yourself comfortable. We enjoy the calming atmosphere of great views across the lake out to the island. Many mornings have been spent on the dock with a cup of hot coffee or hot chocolate just listening to the sounds of the lake.
We also enjoy the time we spend in Frazee and Detroit Lakes. There is always a great place on the 'mile-long' beach of Big Detroit Lake to eat, meet or just people watch. The many city parks offer a fun place for the kids to play while you have a picnic.
We often add items to the cabin or property, which adds to the enjoyment of our guests. If you find the house is missing something, please let us know and we will do everything we can to accommodate your needs.
Hope to hear from you soon - The lake is calling.
We were so happy with the location close to Frazee, Perham and Detroit Lakes. The lake, Eagle Lake, was beautiful and just the perfect size for our use. We water skied, tubed, paddle boarded, canoed, and jet skied. There was also fishing for those of us who wanted to try our hand at that. The property was stocked with yard games and indoor movies and books as well and came in handy for the rainy day we had.
When we arrived the property was very clean, the yard as well as the cabin. We found the cabin well stocked with spices, flour and sugar. There was also a coffee pot which to me was so important to have. The yard had a very nice fire pit and we enjoyed the use of that in the evenings. We enjoyed a wonderful rare time with our kids and grandkids to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. It was perfect!
The owners kept in touch with us and were available if we needed them. They even notified us of the grounds crew coming in to mow. We could not have been more satisfied with the choice of this property. We would recommend this property with no hesitation.

So much to offer for family at this cabin. There is a canoe, water board, camp fire and toys for your little ones to play with. It was clean as well. It was very convenient to have a washer and dryer at the cabin for our stay. A couple issues came up but the owners were very accommodating and seemed to do everything they could and we could ask for to remedy the issues.
We had a wonderful time. Everything we needed was available. The place was clean and comfortable.
Very pretty lake but very weedy bottom. Cabin had pretty view of the lake and good access if you don't mind steps. Pictures showed a covered boat lift...but there is not one there. Pictures also showed a TV...but it is not hooked up. No internet which we did know. There are movies, but all for children, so plan on taking your own if you are adults. Cabin appeared clean when we walked in, but as we used the kitchen, we noticed sticky dishes and silverware drawer could be cleaned out. The drain plug did not hold water in the sink. We ended up buying a dishpan to do dishes. The dish drainer needs to be replaced! Has black stuff growing on the legs and I pulled a wad of long hair out that was tangled up in it. I ended up draining dishes on a towel. Very hard water that smells when you first use the hot water. It got better with use. Nice washer and dryer. New couch and chair. Bed was very comfortable. Enjoyed the campfire ring. We used our own grill so not sure about the grill that is there. It has lots of potential. Just needs some TLC. Loved Ketters Meat Market in Frazee. Disappointed in fishing but that can't be controlled. Just teeny bluegill off the dock. We enjoyed just taking boat rides around the lake since the fish weren't biting.
We had quite a few issues with this lake home, and would not rent here again. The owners advertised a fold-out couch as part of the sleeping accommodations, which we needed for three nights of our stay. The fold-out was broken and unusable. We had to pull the mattress off and put it on the floor. Looking back through previous reviews, I notice that the couch was mentioned last year by another renter, so the owners should have been aware.
Then there were several other smaller issues that, when added up, made this property not worth the price they are asking for the rental: dishes and utensils were not clean when we arrived, towels were nice, but washcloths looked like they had been used to clean the floor. The grill was not cleaned, fire pit not emptied, we killed over a dozen spiders inside the cabin, there is a bee's nest at the bottom of the stairway to the dock. We had to rake the lawn for tree debris before we could use it for lawn games. And lastly, the bluegills are enormous, and they bite all the time. You can't relax and cool off in the water without constantly moving or they come and bite you, and their bites hurt! Great view, nice loons, yes, but too many other problems.
Quiet location and clean cabin!! Enjoyed the lake view, fire pit, swimming , canoe and swim platform. Easy to get to town and back when needed. Owners were very easy to communicate with.
Only drawback is trying to get towels and Linens washed and dried in morning of departure. House full with 10 made it very difficult to get everything washed up before 11am check out. Internet would have been nice to get some work things done in the mornings, but we enjoyed the stay!!
We are nestled in the heart of the Detroit Lakes area with quick access to many attractions for everyone in the family. Breakfast comes with more food than you can eat at the Palace Cafe in downtown Frazee. After you eat, walk across the street to Ketter's Meat Market to pick up some of their delicious brats, pork chops or steaks for grilling (you WILL NOT be disappointed). Enjoy lunch in the quaint city of Perham, MN, where you will find a fantastic little coffee house/gift shop called Gathering Grounds. For a nice, picturesque dinner out, visit Spanky's Stone Hearth in Vergas with views of beautiful Rose Lake. These are just a few of our favorite places in the area, but we are discovering more all the time! Explore the area and let us know of any interesting and noteworthy places YOU find!
