Another happy camper! Yes, the road is dirt for the last little bit, and if you are looking for luxury, look elsewhere -- no tub (only shower), no internet, no dishwasher. Instead, we had privacy, beauty and serenity, with birds in the morning and the occasional coyote. The bed is super comfy and warm, and the woodstove was great (although optional). The assorted teas were particularly appreciated, and if I had discovered the medicine cabinet in the bathroom earlier I wouldn't have needed to buy lotion -- no biggie. There are also lots of books and games and videos.
We really enjoyed our talks with Cheryl (she delivered bandaids when we needed a couple) and learning about the home. The house was very clean and welcoming, and we were delighted to save the cleaning fee by performing a few simple chores.
We did make morning arrival reservations so we wouldn't have to try to figure out where to go in the dark; it was a good decision. But that's because we are not accustomed to doing much travel out of our comfort zone.
Truly, looking back, it felt like we had called an old friend in the area asking if she knew a place where we could stay and being told, why don't you stay at my grandparents' place next door to me? (It's literally true, except that we never met Cheryl before booking this trip.) There was nothing I would change, and I hope that we will get to visit Joshua Tree NP again.
This home provided for a quiet, peaceful weekend stay. We enjoyed the birds that came to visit while we spent time on the covered front porch. The house itself was very clean and spacious, and reminiscent of visiting your grandmother. Cheryl was a very helpful hostess.
This is our second time staying at Cheryl's to finish hiking in Joshua Tree National Park. You cannot beat the beautiful, peaceful setting and homey feel of this place. It's stocked with everything you would need and is very clean. There is a large front porch for eating or swinging on the swing relaxing. It is close in proximity to restaurants, grocery stores, shopping and attractions. Sitting outside at night star gazing is incredible. We also enjoyed feeding the birds every morning, watching hummingbirds, woodpeckers, quail, roadrunners, pigeons, scrub jays, jack rabbits and chipmunks. Would recommend staying here just to relax and enjoy the scenery if you are not into hiking as well.
This house is larger than we expected it to be. It is a full sized house with all the appliances, dishes, and furniture you would expect one to have. The view is lovely, the atmosphere peaceful and my husband and I ate every meal outside. While it's on the same property as the owner's house, you can barely see it. Be aware, the road to the house is partially unpaved, but our normal sedan had no trouble navigating it even after it rained. Joshua Tree National Park was close as is Yucca Valley so the location was perfect. We look forward to staying there again.
What a lovely and comfortable place Cheryl has. My partner and I enjoyed our visit in this homey, lovely and quiet home. It was spacious, very clean and well stocked. Waking up in the morning and having a cup of tea on the swing chair on the porch was delightful. We will be back to rent again.
This rental is such a gem! We only stayed two nights as we were visiting Joshua Tree National Park on our way to Death Valley. However, we wished we could have taken this rental with us for the rest of the trip. The owner was incredibly responsive, made arrangements for a late-night check-in, and had everything immaculately laid out for us upon our arrival. The place had a great layout with two spacious bedrooms, a cozy living room, a kitchen better stocked with supplies than my own kitchen, a very clean bathroom, and all the comforts of home. And did I mention the view? Holy cow. Beautiful moonlit, starry sky overlooking the valley below! Unfortunately, we never even got to see the property in the daylight hours as we left to hike around Joshua Tree before sunrise and got back to the home after sunset both nights; it would have been great to have been able to explore the property and neighboring nature preserve.
Although we never had a chance to meet the owner, she took great care of us during our stay. She thought of every little detail: all the toiletries you could need, tons of seasonings and spices in the kitchen, a folder full of local restaurant menus, bookshelves full of novels, California guides, puzzles, and games. We would highly recommend this property for anyone looking for accommodations in the Joshua Tree area. It was just a short drive to the north entrance to the park. We would have loved to stayed longer. THANK YOU!
