The village of Szentgálosker is what you would call small, but fine. Beside the playground (built with European funding) there is a small supermarket and the local football club (according to many, a social beer club). Here you can enjoy walking and cycling. There is also a doctor, post office, church and two pubs in the village.
Closer to the villa, about 10 minutes away by car, there is the Gombas-Deseda Park, a natural area of 400 hectares which contains recreational features such as hiking and cycling routes, amusements for children, tennis courts and fishing, swimming and dining areas.
About 2 km away lies Kaposvár, the capital of Somogy county. By the old market you can see the ruins of a former castle. Experience the atmosphere of the streets and squares while on a leisurely walk. The city offers a variety of cultural programs, galleries, exhibitions, colorful Carnival days and a street theater that will amaze you. It is also a city perfectly suited for dining out.
Also just 10 minutes from home you will find the village of Igal, one of the famed sulfur baths of Hungary. For a small fee you can stay the entire day. With over eight different pools, waterslides, a playground, massages and dining there is enough variety for a fun day out.
The ultimate holiday spot in Hungary is Lake Balaton, which lies just 25 minutes (by car) from the house. As the largest lake in central Europe, it is known as "the Hungarian Sea". The lake is 77 km long and covers approximately 600 km2. Because Lake Balaton is shallow (1-3 m), the water warms up fast (in May 17 to 19 degrees, in summer up to 30 degrees). It is an ideal area for a real beach and sun holiday with the children, especially on the gently sloping south shore. Hungarian culture can be found in the villages and towns in the vicinity of Lake Balaton, such as the town of Siofok. In short, this villa is a wonderful place for a quiet holiday and/or for those who would like a great starting point for exploring the surrounding area.
