About the property

2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 4

The property is located in one of the Chiltern Hills most beautiful valleys in a quiet rural setting. Originally built as a wing to spectacular 18th Century barns, the stables have been converted to a very high standard, retaining many of the original features. Well equipped, the property provides comfort & convenience whilst enjoying privacy in its own walled courtyard with vines and colourful plants. The setting is rural and peaceful with our ducks and chickens wandering freely.

The area is a walker’s paradise with the famous Ridgeway nearby for the serious or several delightful walks on the doorstep for the more casual. Also popular with cyclists.

Excellent base for touring the ancient Thames-side towns of Henley, Wallingford, Dorchester & Abingdon all within a few miles. Oxford (c12 miles), Windsor (c24 miles), London (c45 miles), Stratford Upon Avon (c48 miles), Cotswolds (c25miles). Close to rail links to London & West country, 10 miles from M4 & M40, Heathrow 28 miles. Horse riding, golf, boat hire available locally.

If you are a fan of the TV series Midsomer Murders, check out the filming locations on www.midsomermurders.org, to see the many pretty villages that are local to the cottage!

The property is strictly non smoking.

Peaceful cottage in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

A very peaceful and well-appointed cottage in a beautiful rural location in the Chilterns, but within 30mins drive of Oxford and an hour's drive from Windsor Castle, Hampton Court and the Harry Potter back-stage tour near Watford. Plenty of good restaurants and shops available locally. The friendly owners made us very welcome and we would highly recommend the cottage to future visitors.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very generous comments. We’re so pleased you had a good week with us and that the weather was not so bad! After your trip to Windsor, you’ll be able to recognise the wedding route this weekend - or perhaps not with all the tourists! It was great to meet you both and Robert especially enjoyed remembering the NorthWest! Our very best wishes, Jenny and Robert

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. It was lovely to meet you and your friends, I'm sorry we weren't around to say goodbye. I hope the golf went well on Saturday and your friends are enjoying the canal boat - the weather has at least picked up! Very best wishes, Jenny & Robert

Warm hospitality in a beautiful quiet part of the countryside with magnificent rolling downs and soaring red kites overhead.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very generous words. We are so pleased you enjoyed yourselves. It would be lovely to welcome you back sometime.....perhaps to escape the excess heat of Sydney! 47 degrees sounds a bit too warm! Very best wishes, Jenny & Robert

Lovely accommodation in rural area

  • 4 of 5

Lovely little place, very snug and cozy! Although cot and highchair are kindly provided, I really wouldn't recommend this place for an active/moving baby! (There are also no pushchair friendly walks from the cottage). The garden areas are beautiful (even out of season), however chickens are ducks are loose all day which we didn't realise when we booked. Overall, this is a great place to stay for a romantic getaway or few friends catching up but although babies and dogs are allowed, I wouldn't recommend taking them. The owners were very welcoming and friendly and we did really appreciate the milk and flowers on arrival. The guest book was filled with many happy guests too!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our cottage. I am sorry that your stay didn't quite live up to your expectations and I will amend our description regarding your comments on pushchair friendly walks. We do already say that our ducks and chickens wander freely but perhaps we need to emphasise this point. Thank you for your bringing these issues to our attention.

We spent a week in this cosy cottage and really loved it. The cottage is well equipped and the beds are fine. The surroundings are really amazing and the owners are most friendly.

Wellplace is a small hamlet near Ipsden, itself a small village, about 5 miles east of the historic market town of Wallingford. Wallingford is about 10 miles downstream of Oxford. The cottage is located in an area designated as of outstanding natural beauty. Our visitors find the cottage an ideal base for exploring the rich history in the area, and trips to London, the Cotswolds, and Shakespeare country.
