This was the fourth home on Captiva that my family and I have rented. It was our favorite for sure! Not only is the home itself beautiful, but it is in a perfect location. We didn't need to rent a golf cart this year...easy walk to everything we needed. The bay views are so peaceful. We sat on the dock every morning and watched manatee and dolphin swim by. We caught 13 different species of fish right off the dock. We enjoyed the pool everyday. It was an easy walk to the village for restaurants or to the beach for walks and sunsets. You won't be disappointed with this home, and the owners are kind and responsive.
Gearing Down is an exceptionally clean, well-maintained, and beautiful property with top notch views. It is extremely spacious and well appointed. The house is isolated enough that you don't ever have to see other people (except passing in boats!) during your stay, yet it is only a few hundred yards from many of the restaurants on Captiva. We highly recommend Gearing Down and hope to be back soon!
We vacationed at Grande Casa in May of 2014, and found it to be the perfect location on Captiva Island. We had a wide range of family members from a 2 month old to the grandparents, and there was something for everyone. We used the pool several times a day, and loved the view and the dock. We also liked how open the layout was; perfect for families. Our favorite part was being able to easily walk to the beach and restaurants. We only had one issue while we were there (related to air conditioning in a bedroom) which was dealt with immediately. We had a great stay and are definitely considering returning next year!
We stayed in this home for Easter 2011. My family had a wonderful time hanging out in town and the backyard. We rented a boat from a local marina and went exploring the sound it was very cool. The house was in good shape and everything was exceptional. Would highly recommend to anyone.
Our family had a fabulous time at this lovely Captiva home. The view was magnificent, the house was well appointed, and the location was within walking distance of great restaurants, the beach, and convenience stores. We would definitely go back to this great property.
The house is as advertised. I was hesitant at first because they did not accept credit cards as payment. Reluctantly I sent a check as a "hold" for the dates I requested. I immediatly recieved my key in the mail "next day"------probably because of the short notice of making plans. I did'nt bother taking my boat because of the dock that is very fishable. My family of 6 (4 kids under 10) barely used half of the house. Also, we only spent about 1 hour at the beach the whole week. The dock and pool were our retreat. Restaurants are close---walking distance there's 8-10 great places to eat. My advice for families on a budget is to take groceries and cook a few meals at the house as the restaurants are pricey. Overall the experience, aside from "no see ems' was excellent.
