Lovely bungalow in very quiet area, about 15 minutes walk into town or €4 in a taxi. Very large lounge kitchen area, very comfy large bed in main room, sofa bed in second room, large walkin shower, washing machine in bathroom. Large garden area with lots of different seating areas and bbq, outdoor seating with cushions, and all the things required for a comfy stay. We really enjoyed our stay here and will definatly be back.

christmas disapointment - Xmas Eve in the dark.

  • 1 of 5

We took the easy option and booked the transfer through the owner/agent. Our first mistake as he was late on arrival resulting in several frantic phone calls to locate him. This was compounded on the return trip as he did not even turn up. We ended up getting a taxi to the airport. Luckily the rank was a short walk. We received a message 50 minutes after our scheduled 9AM collection time apologising the driver had overslept. By this time we were already at the airport.

Putting aside the transport issues the accommodation can only be described as poor. Desperately in need of some TLC and a lick of paint. However the most significant issue was the electrical power supply to the property. Given it was Xmas the weather chilled off in the evening. No problem was assumed as there was an electric oil filled radiator in the room. On switching it on and getting ready for an evening out 1/2 way through getting ready all the power went off. First thoughts were of course power cut, nothing we can do about that. It came on shortly after then went off again within minutes. This continued for approx. 15 minutes. At this time the lady next door popped her head over the gate. Asking if we were having power issues. After some conversing we established that the overload was local to our two properties. It transpired the two buildings were fed from a single feed with the mainswitch located in her property - a ludicrous arrangement. If the power was to trip whilst she was out we would have no way of resetting the switch.

Aware of the problem we requested a gas heater from the agent and were told we could not have a gas heater in a rental property and we would "just have to manage it". OK we could manage our consumption - not that we should have to, however how could we manage the next door consumption?.

We had a repeat performance 2 days later again luckily the lady next door was again at home, although by now she was getting thoroughly P'd off.

As you must realize our holiday did not get off to the best of starts, being given the wrong code to enter the property, It was also very disappointing that all our attempts at contacting by phone were totally ignored, and it took a visit to your office, five days into the holiday to sort out the problems we were experiencing with the property..

Although some issues were addressed, thanks to the input from David, there were still some left, ie the lack of a dish washer, DVD player, security box, all listed in the description of the property, when we booked. The BBQ was also a health hazard with layers of congealed fat on the grilles, again thanks to David this was sorted.

The property has great potential, it needs money spending upgrade facilities, particularly around the patio and garden areas, new garden furniture, corner unit by the BBQ removing, the pathway around the garden is in need of attention, and the area of rubbish to the left should either be cleared or a lock put on the gate,

It was evident that no one from your company had inspected the property before being responsible for the letting, which is a great surprise and it was disappointing that there was no follow up from you staff after the initial contact.

My comments although critical, I hope will be constructive for the future. It was unfortunate that we experienced the problems for we thought Refugio a perfect holiday let for my wife, Lyn, and myself.

The accommodation is over-rated. It is described as being in a luxury residential area but this converted garage is far from luxurious. The floor in the living/dining/kitchen is uneven with chipped tiles and areas of mortar missing between tiles. The kitchen unit doors are badly fitted and some don't close properly. The large rug in the living area covers a large oil stain, and the rug itself billows clouds of dust if you try to sweep it. The noisy bed from a previously review was finally changed after 8 days of our stay and several texts to the management company. There is no dishwasher or DVD player as quoted on the Homeaway website. The BBQ area has a table but no chairs, a parasol that is torn and broken, a seating bench that is rough and rotting, and the grilling bars of the BBQ are thick with black burnt grease. The pathway to the BBQ has raised tiles that you could trip over. Although this path has lighting there is no information on how to switch them on, as there are no user instructions for any of the appliances in the property. There is no local information about Doctors, Dentists, Police, Pharmacy, supermarkets, restaurants or bus services. We were there for 4 weeks and the bed linen and towels were changed twice in that time, so we had to change and wash bed linen and towels ourselves. I have set all of this out in an e-mail to the management company at their request but have received no reply. I have not received replies to 3 texts and 2 phone calls made to the management company about the bed linen and towels. It is a pity because it is basically a nice place in a quiet area, that needs a little TLC.

Beds very poor.

  • 3 of 5

The beds where poor, mainly the guest room. This was untenable and one of us had to sleep on the sofa. The other also had a dip in the middle, which became painfull to sleep on and creeked very loudly at the slightest movement, so much that it physically woke you up as you moved. Both of us had sore backs by the holiday. It is also very warm throughout with no air con as the the glass just lets all the heat it. They did provide fans after we asked on the second night. Other than that it is very clean, the TV is only in German so if your English or other, bring an android box or something as the wifi was very good!

Absolutely 5 Star

  • 5 of 5

The villa has vast grounds with a BBQ area and patio where sun bathing can be done in privacy.

It is well equipped. We had a problem with the boiler and it was fixed within a couple of hours.

Susanne is amazing and a lovely lady...the whole team are very helpful and friendly.
