Spooky Channel Villa is named after one of Roatan's most famous dive and snorkel sites that is situated straight off the private dock just steps away from your covered patio. From the dock it is easy to swim or snorkel and if you go diving or fishing the boat can come there to pick you up. There is a fresh water shower at the end of the dock for your convenience.
The Villa is right on the beach on the north shore of the
island where you can relax and watch amazing sunsets - sometimes, if you're lucky, with a green flash. On the patio you will find some nice chairs a BBQ and a small spa to cool off. There is an outdoor fresh water garden shower for use after snorkeling or diving.
The Villa has two spacious master bedrooms with king beds and separate bathrooms. The living room has a 32 inch flat screen TV, DVD player and a nice couch .
The kitchen is fully equipped with gas stove, microwave, blender toaster, and coffee maker.
A washing machine and dryer is available.
Of course there is free wifi to keep you connected.
You can park your car on the property directly behind the Villa.
Shops, restaurants and bars are about a 10 minute drive away but you can also have a private chef come and cook for you or have the property managers stock the house with your choice of groceries.
Owners Jay and Dana Litman, a retired contractor and Public Health Nurse, live in Duluth, MN.
Jay and Dana Litman purchased this house in 2005
Our first trip to Roatan was in 2000 to visit our daughter who was living on the island at the time. Being from northern Minnesota, we fell in love with the perfect tropical weather, friendly people, and unspoiled, non-commercial island life. After visiting yearly, we decided to purchase a house and found the perfect private, Caribbean home in the Sunnyside neighborhood in Sandy Bay.
Quiet community, home located directly on the beach. Incredible snorkeling can be found along the reef in front of the house. Being located right on the beach provides cool breezes and perfect view of unbelievable sunsets. Tropical gardens and 50 palm trees on the property provide beauty, shade and privacy, while the beach in front of the house provides plenty of sun and unimpeded view of the ocean. Kitchen is fully equipped and house is impeccably maintained.
My wife and I stayed here a few years ago and had a blast. The house was perfect for those who want to relax and are not into the "bling". The lush palms and hibiscus were fantastic. Snorkling at your doorstep! Open air dining and dive trips are only a walk down the beach.
We were only a very short drive, less than 10 minutes, from the Blue Parrot Bar
& Grill. I understand the owner of the time has moved on but if it remains. It should be a great place to knock down a couple of Salva Vidas or Por Royals. They had a good Lobster/Filet dinner for $14 and shoe swere not required.
I can definately reccomend this place.
Just got home from a week at Spooky Channel. Couldn't have been better. The local people were friendly and very helpful. Lots to see and do, iguana farm, zip line that included a tour with monkeys and a insect exhibit, swim with the dolphins, and Eddie the boat guy who will take you snorkeling or fishing. Exchange rate was very favorable. The girls went shopping in the west end and we found 2 dollar Heineken's on the beach, can't beat that. House is well stocked and maintained. Ask the owners about the local neighbors who can act as taxi drivers, way better than renting a car. 5 stars all the way !!!!!!!!
This house was amazing and the location was perfect. We spent most of our time, including all meals, on the porch with a few days adventuring to town snorkeling at different beaches and trying out some of the local restaurants. Our favorite outdoor local restaurant, very basic, was just down the beach to the left, Rio -----, can't remember the whole name. They opened just for us on a Sunday night when everything else was closed.
From the moment we arrived to the end of our trip, Bertha was there to help us when needed. We were picked up at the airport and stopped for groceries. She arranged to have fresh fish delivered to our doorstep and helped set up a bone fishing adventure with Raoul.
We swam daily right off the dock, which was a perfect spot to hang out.You can snorkel right in front of the house, swim out to the beautiful reef. We would suggest life jackets, or flags.
A car is not necessary, for it's so easy to get a cab with a short walk to the road. The local bus is also a fun way to get around, very inexpensive.
We spent ten days at Spooky Channel and loved every minute.
We just returned from a wonderful holiday week at Spooky Channel! The house was perfect. Each day we enjoyed a perfect cup of coffee on the very perfect porch and watched the locals (and local dogs) walk down the beach. One morning we got cinnamon buns from a local vendor; another morning we got bananas from a neighbor. In the afternoon, we shifted over to the hammocks—zzzzzz. With the windows open, there was always a breeze so we never turned on the A/C. We never lost power, always had hot water and the internet was surprisingly reliable.
The snorkeling from the dock was incredible. We grabbed our fins (easily rented in town), swam about 100 yards and saw rays, eels, octopus, lion fish, conchs, star fish, incredible coral and more fish than we could ever count. My teenage boys loved every minute of it! If you don’t want to snorkel, the dock was a wonderful place to watch the beautiful sunsets.
We ended up eating at home more than expected. We were able to get everything we needed between Woody’s grocery, the fish market and the fruit market in West End. The kitchen was stocked, the grill worked great and we made some incredible meals. We did eat out a few times; The Blue Parrot, Coconut Grill, Cannibal Café were all great but the $9 traditional Honduran lunch at the Lighthouse was our favorite. We were never in a rush but “Honduran time” definitely looks different from NYC time. My son brought a deck of cards when we headed out for meals which turned out to be a good call. It was super easy to catch a cab from the end of the road. Know what you are going to pay and have exact change. All of the drivers were nice and knowledgeable but they will try to get a higher rate if possible.
We got the cruise line schedule and arranged our outings on days were the cruisers weren't in town (when activities can get crowded and rushed). Beachers in West Bay gave us chairs and an umbrella for the cost of a lovely bucket of beer. We spent an enlightening day at Upachaya kayaking through the mangroves. We zip lined at Gumbalymba Park and explored the park with our guide. Working with Tom and Zilla was very easy. They were extremely helpful and readily available (although we never needed to call upon them). We felt quite safe. The house has an alarm and the security company came a few times a day. Bugs are also as advertised so bring your spray. We highly recommend this property and this vacation.
If you want to unwind and relax but still have all the conveniences of home this is the place! Situated right on the Spooky Channel, you can see beach and water no matter where you look. The house is gorgeous! The beds were super comfy and having a bathroom in the bedroom was great (when sharing the house with another couple). The kitchen has everything you’d need if you want to cook at the house. (Two great grocery stores near the airport) I love, love, love the porch. So relaxing to watch the waves and enjoy the sunset each day. Snorkeling right from the dock was an ideal way to start the day (or take a dip in the afternoon). Swimming around, looking at all the fish, turtles and conch shells makes you feel like you’re swimming in an aquarium; awesome! There are so many restaurants a short distance from the house, it was hard to choose. Our favorite was “The Thai Restaurant” (really that’s the name). And, make sure to keep a look out for the “donut lady” at West End. The banana donuts are super yummy. We also enjoyed going to West Bay for snorkeling and partaking in a beverage or two at Beachers. Just ask for Lindy, he’ll set you up with a nice umbrella and chair on the beach. Whether you’re a sun worshiper or an adventurer, there’s something for everyone here. I’d advise renting a car to get the most out of the (small) island. The only drawback was there wasn't enough time to take it all in. We’re looking forward to a return visit!
What a beautiful house! The home has everything you could need...comfort, a completely furnished kitchen, two extremely comfortable beds, a porch on the ocean with a grill and table for eating, two hammocks, and the amazing outdoors shower!!! Kathy, who lives next door, is very helpful and friendly, and has lived on the island for many years.
The snorkeling just steps from the house was fantastic and something I will always remember.
We hope to return again someday. Thanks for making this lovely home avilable to us.
Our house is named "Spooky Channel Villa" because of its location on the beach directly in front of a popular dive and snorkel location called Spooky Channel. There is nothing spooky about it and it is definitely not haunted! Other activities besides world class diving and snorkeling: several different canopy tours through the trees and hills, Carambola Botanical Gardens featuring many beautiful blooming orchids, Roatan Butterfly Garden, swimming with dolphins, deep diving submarine, snooba tours, Iguana Farm, Blue Harbor Arboretum, Gumbalimba Park and Animal Preserve, Black Pearl Golf Resort, chocolate factory and museum, horse back riding, paddle boarding, sunset sails, catamaran snorkel and lunch tours.
