Great apartment in a great location

  • 4 of 5

I booked this apartment for my cousin, her husband and me. Olivier, the owner, always responded quickly via email and was great to communicate with. When I arrived in Paris, my phone wasn't operating as planned, so I wasn't able to let Olivier know that I was on the way. I asked the taxi driver to use his phone to call when I arrived at the apartment, and Olivier made the effort to meet me within 15 minutes.

The apartment is located in my favorite Paris neighborhood, the Marais. It was quiet at night except for one evening when a neighbor across the street held a loud party until 5AM. The walls are so thick that I was able to get away from the noise by moving to the living room and sleeping on the couch. On weekdays, we could hear children from the school next door during recess, but we were out most of the time. Overall, it was a perfect location within a short walk of three metro stations, which reduced the need to transfer trains.

Our apartment was clean and very spacious. Really nice to have two bathrooms for three adults too. Although the building was built in the 17th century, the rear was renovated with an elevator, which we appreciated since the apartment is on the 5th floor (or 4th floor in Paris). From our windows, we had a charming view of Paris rooftops.

During our visit, the temperature was in the 30s (Fahrenheit) a couple of days with rain on and off. The apartment has radiators in almost all the rooms, which made it comfortable. We had to move some large plants out of the way to use the radiator in the living room. I suggest replacing them with smaller plants that will do well whether the radiator is on or off.

A couple of suggestions for the smaller bathroom. It would be helpful to have a towel hook close to the sink as well as a small shelf to the left of the medicine cabinet where you can place small items (like glasses or rings) without having to open the cabinet. Also, the dryer has a small access door with a broken latch that should be repaired.

The kitchen had everything we needed - toaster, coffee maker and hot water maker. Our bedrooms were spacious with plenty of storage. And we couldn't have had a better neighborhood with bakery, cafes and restaurants close by. A major grocery/department store called Monoprix was a 5-minute walk away.

This is a great apartment and it's hard to beat the terrific location. I recommend it highly.

Great location and space

  • 4 of 5

Lovely apartment with lots of light from windows. Two separate bedrooms and bathrooms make it perfect for adult travelers. A couple of things to know--the apartment is one block back from the Place des Vosges, so there are not views onto the Place. Also the cleaning fee is mandatory, not optional (as in some other rentals where the renter cleans themselves). At the time of our stay, a window blind was not working in a bedroom, so both privacy and light control for sleeping were compromised, and two lamps were without bulbs (and no spares in the flat) making it very dark in the living room at night. Thanks to the owner for making an extra set of keys available to us.

We would recommend the apartment and would consider a return visit. Good restaurants (especially the Cafe des Musee), grocery, and bakery just steps away.

Owner's Response: i confirm that the address of the apartment is on place des vosges. the tenant has a fab to enter the building on the place des vosges side. the apartment , as described in the ad, is on the back of a courtyard. there is a box with spare lamp bulbs in the apartment . the owner was not present at the time of check in and it seems that our tenants missed important information such as 2 entrances for the building. we are sorry for that. the blind is now repaired . we insist at the time of check in that should a problem occurr the tenant is invited to call the owner so we can promply provide a solution.

October in Paris

  • 4 of 5

4 adults stayed in Olivier's unit , and were very pleased with the accommodation. All email correspondence was promptly answered, and Olivier was very easy to deal with. Unfortunately, we did not meet Olivier,as he was out of town during our stay, but were met by his associate, who was both pleasant and informative.

The location is brilliant...close to everything, walking distance to a few subway stops, surrounded by good shops and restaurants.

The apartment itself was clean and tidy. A well supplied kitchen(never used) along with comfortable beds made for a great base from which to explore Paris.

I would suggest that better seating would enhance the living area, as the armless couch was small, and the remaining 3 chairs, though attractive, were uncomfortable and did not make lounging around possible for our group.

Also, not being able to turn on the heating unit in the living area( due to placement of large plants, and instructions left by Olivier) left the room cold during the cool October weather.

Overall, a very lovely apartment in an extraordinary location with a gracious owner made for a wonderful 1st time to Paris.

Owner's Response: the tenant stayed in early october at a time paris was unseasonably cold and the building central heating was not started ( it is usually started in mid october). we do have radiators to face this situation but it is true that the plants are in front of the living room radiator. for this purpose we have put the plants on rolls so they can easily be pulled away in case the radiator needs to be put on . there have not been complaints on our attractive chairs in the past but since providing a comfortable place is one of our main objective we will check if there is anything wrong with them and replace them if necessary.

Great location, marvelous apartment!

  • 5 of 5

My wife, Ellie and I, along with our 3 grown grandchildren were very pleased with Olivier's elegant apartment, and thankful for the air-conditioning as we were there during Paris's worst heat wave ever (103 degrees F. on Wednesday). The apartment was just as it was represented on the web site, with elegant antique furniture, everything we needed to prepare meals, a great boulangerie (recommended by Olivier) just about at our rear door step, and the property was very clean and well maintained. The location, at 21 Place des Vosges was great, an easy walk to the Seine, Ile St. Louis and Ile de la Cite and Notre Dame. The rear location of the apartment provided serenity and quiet in a bustling neighborhood. The two bathrooms were a godsend and the space was certainly adequate for the five of us.

To sum it up, Olivier was a great host, always available to answer questions and to provide recommendations. We are particularly glad that he recommended Le Petit Italien, a restaurant quite close to the apartment which we all enjoyed and can recommend. I would not hesitate to recommend this accommodation. It is superb.

Charming Old World Elegance

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful immersion we had in Paris! My husband and I rented this apartment in the heart of the Marais for the month of December. Our two adult sons joined us for the second half of the month and we all found the home-away-from-home to be charming, comfortable, clean, and well located for restaurants, shopping, public transportation, and tourist attractions. The two bedrooms (queen and king beds) and two baths were perfect for our family. The  rooms in the apartment were spacious and they easily accommodated the four of us. Like all of the rooms, the kitchen had large windows that opened easily for fresh air on warm, sunny days. During our stay the modern appliances, excellent recipe books, and colorful porceline even encouraged attempts at some French cooking!

Sharing his knowledgeable about the history of the Marais and Place des Vosges, Olivier could not have been more kind and accommodating. He made sure we were settled and he was quick to respond to any needs or questions which were few. He also provided recommendations for local specialty shops and restaurants. He takes great pride in his antique furnishings as he should--they are beautiful and add character to the apartment decor truly turning the clock back and making our stay in Place des Vosges seem like yesterday with all the convenience of today!
