Overview

About the property

There is one bedroom with a loft and one bathroom with a shower.

To me this setting and this cottage are a little bit of heaven on Earth. The scenic beauty, the crystal clearwater with sand bottom, the purring lake boats, the bright colored sailboats and kayaks silently gliding by, and the smell of cool, pine-scented air all combine to make this an enchanting and relaxing place.

This cozy, authentic log cabin is affectionately called 'Demilog' because of its construction of half logs that are round on the outside and flat on the inside. My grandfather built it in 1939. We have purposely kept the cabin simple so that it feels like a step back in time. It is fully furnished so all you need to bring are your sheets and towels. Note that there is no dishwasher, television, computer. There is excellent cell phone reception for AT&T users but it is a little weaker for Verizon users. There is a fire ring to enjoy after a day of swimming, hiking, boating, fishing or sight seeing.

Just absolutely perfect

  • 5 of 5

It was the best vacation we have had in a long time. We loved the cabin, loved the lake and loved the owners. If you are looking to step back from everything and disconnect from everything stressful and reconnect with your loved ones, than this little place is perfect. We canoed, swam, explored, had campfires, and played monopoly until late in the night. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I would want a place as simple and perfect as this little gem. Sidenote: The wifi did save us with the kids when the weather was bad and lake George (the town) was quite a ways away, but this was a bonus for us.

Owner's Response: Oh Bethany, thank you so much! Your encouragement means more than you know. I love it when families use it exactly like yours did. We just added the Wifi this year and I was a little leery because I really want people to unplug and enjoy each other and the gorgeous environment like we did 50 years ago, but it is true that on a rainy day it is a blessing. ;-) Thank you for going the extra mile in leaving it clean for the next family. They were a bunch of guys/brothers, so they may not have noticed (haha!), but I really appreciate it. We would love to have you back any time. All the Best, Lee

Owner's Response: Haha! Folks we have two cabins on the property about 90 feet apart. Robert stayed in Demilog (#263457), a one room log cabin which was built in 1939 by my Grandfather. It is a sweet little cabin with beautiful lake views. But when he booked Labor Day weekend he had the option of booking Overbank (#248843). He decided to stay with Demilog, but once he got there he realized that Overbank hangs over the water with a 180 degree view of the lake and that it would have been worth the extra money it costs. If you are on a tight budget, then book Demilog and walk down to the dock and landing and enjoy the view from there, but if you can afford it, you will probably love being right on the water and enjoying the "million dollar" view from Overbank's porch IF it is available. Overbank has already been booked from June 15-Sept 1 next summer. We have many folks who return to "their" week each year, but pre and post season still has many weeks/weekends open. Robert, thanks for giving us a try and we look forward to having you return in the future. All the Best, Lee

Perfect place to unplug and unwind!!!

  • 5 of 5

This place is a little slice of heaven. Yes, the cabin is small, but it's exactly what we needed. We loved being so close. Great porch to eat and relax on. Nice fire pit and charcoal grill. Beautiful dock to swim from. Also, the swimming is awesome!!! The sandy bottom is perfect. We also loved Lee, the owner of the property. We had the pleasure of sitting with her and her 2 granddaughters for a little while by the water. What a wonderful family!! Can't say enough about these folks. You won't be disappointed with Northern Lake George. Plenty to do and see from this spot......or, just sit back and relax.

Owner's Response: Awww...Thanks, Joe. I enjoyed meeting your family too! We are only at the lake two weeks in the summer, so we rarely get to meet the people who rent our cabins. I had no idea how much it enhances a vacation to share it with another family! While I got some adult conversation, my young granddaughters had a ball swimming with your girls and the family before you. They spent hours of time swimming and playing in the water that they wouldn't have done without them. They loved roasting smores around the fire with these new friends. They seem to connect instantly and there were long faces when families left. What great memories were made. And thanks for demonstrating your fishing skills to the girls. I am sure they will be begging for equipment for next summer. Hey, that sounds like a good Christmas present! All the best, Lee

Lovely, timeless cabin on beautiful Lake George

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Demilog Cabin on beautiful Lake George! Looking for a quiet retreat to unplug from the world, this was the perfect place to be with our kids age 5 and 6. The cabin is very charming and while small provided us all the space we needed as a family of four. We woke up to the sun reflecting off the lake through the trees, jumped into the lake from the dock and enjoyed grilling in the outside space between the cabins.

About the cabin itself - we found it clean and welcoming. The kitchen is well equipped with all we needed to cook. It's a small space but well thought through. The loft area is a great adventure space for kids and the stuffed animals are a friendly welcome that got our kids very excited.

Lee was very helpful with information and tips about the area and the cabin and always responded right away.

Overall this cabin felt like a space that carries generation's worth of joyful, timeless memories! Our stay was a very peaceful and rich experience that we will always remember, and hopefully repeat!

Owner's Response: Anna, Thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and encouraging review. It makes us happy to provide a place that helps families like yours make great memories together in the old fashion, simple ways... like swimming in a crystal clear lake, and playing with boats, and enjoying a fire and sleeping with a friendly stuffed Caterpillar, or a using a pulley and basket for the first time. Isn't it great to see kids light up with those healthy activities. We would love to have you back any time. All the Best, Lee

Very relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time at this location. Our original goal was to find a location to stop on our way to Montreal Canada but our stay at the Demilog cottage became the highlight of our vacation. The cottage is very simple but had everything we needed. The kitchen is very well stocked and the beds are very comfortable. The property is so well maintained. My entire family loved using the dock and the kayak and canoe that were provided. We can’t wait to comeback next year.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you had a great time! I love that your kids connected with the cabin, lake, boats and natural setting in this age of constant entertainment via media and cell phones... little screen addiction. People return every year to experience "The Little House on the Prairie" feel of this cabin. We have left the original fixtures when possible to preserve that feeling. The kitchen sink and faucet are the same that were installed in 1939. I loved this cabin as a child and I still do. It is a step back in time. I hope you had a chance to paddle over to O'Dell Island which is an enchanting place to explore. To think that it has been sitting there since the glaciers melted away ... and I love how the prevailing wind has swept all the branches to one side of the tree in some cases. A great place for kids to explore and couples to relax. I look forward to having you back next year, Lee

Lake George is known as “The Queen of American Lakes.' The crystal clear water and the gorgeous undeveloped mountains that change color throughout the day and seasons draw people back to the basics. The simple cabin and the scenic beauty cause people to relax a little more each day as they swim, hike, boat, read or stare into a fire with family and friends.
