About Ricki & Sandy Brown

Ricki & Sandy Brown, are deserts rats. We moved to Southern Utah to enjoy the canyons and mountains, hiking and biking being our passions. (We can direct you to secret spots.) We live next door to our vacation home in our own private place.

Ricki & Sandy Brown purchased this house in 2005

Why Ricki & Sandy Brown chose Utah

Escalante is the most remote village in the mainland USA and represents the New West. For us, it's a new life in close harmony with nature and all things wild.

What makes this house unique

The most talked about issues are the silence, the golden light, along with the clarity of the heavens. You'll want to experience the wild, quiet west as the weather turns.

Amazing

This was our first time booking a VRBO property and we are so glad that we did. La Luz is the perfect home away from home! The house was very modern and chic, with extra touches of the local characteristics. The beds were very comfortable and everything was in perfect working order! The owners Ricki and Sandy do an excellent job of informing you about the house, as well as the area, and optional activities. Don't hesitate to reserve La Luz for your family...you won't be disappointed! And if you have a larger family, rent La Luna as well! Loved it!

Peaceful and private oasis in the desert

  • 5 of 5

Lovely, spacious and comfortable, we felt very much at home in this delightful rental! Ricky met us at the home and shared lots of information about the area. He is very knowledgeable regarding hiking. Sandy was on a trip but we met her a few days later and she was friendly and helpful as well. Although they live on the property (in a separate building) the stay was very private. We were extremely impressed by the gorgeous panoramic view from the entire front of the home. Inside the décor, functionality and amenities were very very good. We only had to run the cooling system for a few minutes in the evening to remove a bit of built-up heat of the day. The design of the house utilizes the evening/nighttime coolness of the desert to draw the refreshing air in and release the warmer air from the upper windows – natural a/c! The location of Escalante is terrific. Remote, yet with all needed businesses. Near to many attractions, but not TOO near. Our only comment on La Luz would be that the front door lock should be replaced. It was extremely difficult to lock/unlock, and although we understood that people in the area don’t lock their homes, that shouldn’t be a decision that is made for a traveler; a renter should have the option of choosing whether to lock up or not. We would stay here again, had an amazing time.

perfect retreat in escalante

  • 5 of 5

I spent six days at La Luz and it was excellent. The home was fantastic and had everything I needed to enjoy my time there. Ricki and Sandy are great hosts and interesting people whose knowledge of the area was helpful in thinking about where to hike and enjoy the amazing landscape in and around Escalante. Highly Recommended.

Great house with helpful hosts

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house. It was very clean with nice views of the outside. It was close to town and to what we wanted to see in the Escalante area. Ricki and Sandy were wonderful hosts. They shared vegetables from there garden with us and gave us much information on hiking. We really enjoyed La Luz and would stay there again.

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

La Luz was a great base for exploring the Escalante area. Beautiful views, charming décor and a great kitchen. It's on the edge of town, close to services and Ricki and Sandra are right next door if you need anything, but we felt completely private and cozy. The views of mountains and fields through the wall of south-facing windows made us feel far from everything.
