Wavely Veney purchased this townhome in 1999
I learned about this property a few years ago from a friend and fell in love with the vision to restore this property to its original beauty. Such an exquisite area deserves a beautiful home!
The Smithsonian Vacation House is centrally located within walking distance to the Mall and the Monument.
From the beginning to the end of our stay, Wavely made himself available to assist with any questions we had. Location of home is terrific! Walking distance to grocery shopping, water, and all D.C. has to offer! Our vacation was wonderful and the Smithsonian Vacation House made for many good memories.
Mine and my brother's families from different areas down south met here for our first DC vacation. The property was nice and comfortable. The rental owner was very helpful, and the location was unbeatable. We walked to every point of interest on or near the mall including restaurants. If hours of walking to all the monuments and museums isn't your thing, using Uber to get back and forth is surpisingly fast and affordable from here. The experience of the city from this spot is terrific.
6 of us traveled to DC for granddaughter's wedding which unfortunately ended up being a very cold day. We arrived on Thursday night and it wasn't too cold and was able to get settled. The location is wonderful. Very convenient to everything, especially Navy Yard area and Nats Stadium. We were running around during the day on Friday and the owner sent maintenance man, Silva, over to replace some light bulbs. When we returned from the rehearsal dinner on Friday night, the temperature had dropped outside and the inside of the house was freezing. Called because heat wouldn't come on. Silva immediately came over to try and remedy the situation. He was awesome and did everything he could but ultimately the unit needed to be replaced and since it was the weekend that wasn't going to happen while we were there. They brought in space heaters so we were very warm in the bedrooms even though the downstairs was still very cold. The wedding was Saturday afternoon so again we weren't in the house much until bedtime. We left Sunday morning. Even though we had major issues, the response by Silva to try and resolve things was over and above. It was just too far out of his control.
We really enjoyed the property and it's roominess. It fit seven nicely. We were very close to the grocery & restaurants plus it was great to have a private parking spot. My only suggestion would be to take out the window air conditioning unit since it was winter.
This house was beautiful and gave you a real feel of DC. It was within walking distance to several dowtown attractions as well as a local grocery store. It is right next to a school and was on a very quite neighborhood street. Best part, at 7AM you could here the chapel bells ringing amongst the hustle and bustle of the city. Absolutely stunning, I would highly recommend this stay to anyone!
Proximity to the Smithsonian Museums was the primary reason for choosing this property. The number of bedrooms was a Plus. With Uber Eats being so convenient, we did not prepare meals for the limited time we were on property, so the kitchen was not tested. With TVs in all of the bedrooms and in the living room, we were adequately entertained. Having a washer/dryer onsite also was a big plus so that we did not return home with clothing to wash. The customer service was EXCELLENT. The Owner was available from beginning to ending with directions, tips about the surrounding area, etc. We had a small plumbing problem that was quickly addressed while we were there and likely addressed more fully after we left.
We will likely return next year since we did not see enough of the museums on this limited stay.
