La Herradura is a small town - a former fishing village - located at a horseshoe-shaped bay. The nearest larger towns are Almunecar - 5 km - a town with typical Spanish flair and Nerja, about 15 km away, an internationally known, lively tourist town.
On the one hand the bay is protected by the mountains of the Alpujarras and the Sierra Nevada from the cold from the north and on the other hand they offer not only a spectacular scenery , but also endless opportunities for walking, hiking and even climbing - all year round in great unspoilt nature and mild climate!
In the village you will find not only everything you need for daily shopping, there is also a supermarket and a small market with fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and meat from the region, but also many other small shops. The offer for wellness and sports is impressive: massage, physiotherapy, fitness centers as well as cosmetics and beauty treatments are available in the town itself.
You find large indoor swimming pools for all year round exercise in Nerja and Almunecar.
For those interested in outdoor sports La Herradura is well known for paragliding, its diving schools, horse riding and even skiing on the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada, Europe's southernmost ski resort, about 50 minutes drive away.
