About Jim Clark

I'm a retired college prof and my wife has couple more years to go. We have 4 kids. Our younger son helps manage this rental. Our family loves being in the mountains with tress and alpine lakes - and experiencing it with family. Shaver is the best. This sparsely elegant vacation home with hewn cedar log siding, and wide-cut hardwood floors allows guests to totally relax in an expansive mountain home where you instantly relax.. At 5,000 feet, you will enjoy be nestled among giant cedar trees, watching snowfall or basking on the expansive deck. Interestingly, the separate 2 upstairs wings allow you get-away time to read or sleep!. Shaver Lake is a pristine alpine waterway that's not a jet boat haven. But totally fun for tubing, swimming, paddling, or fishing. China Peak is 30 minutes away, with 2,000 feet of vertical rise for skiing. Town is 1/2 mile walk, and fun to snow shoe. Good Deli Sandwiches, beer, and espresso shops. You will be shocked by the quality of our large HDTV screen w Satellite service.

Our home and the community give you special benefits of a group vacation at Mammoth or Tahoe, at a fraction of the cost for family lodging, summertime water amenities, or wintertime snow sports. Sledding is great right on the back side of our property!

Shaver is a warm, laid-back community, not unlike our childhood towns. But the incredibly diverse high elevation terrain at Shaver allows you and your kids to experience snow skiing only minutes away, or trek get into fresh snow with cross country skis, snow shoes, or vehicles. You can also freely water ski,, tack hard in a dinghy sailboat, paddle a kayak in a secluded waterway, spot deer on a hiking trail, sip wine on an electric party boat, or push back from a scrumptious dinner at a a community restaurant. You too will love Shaver Lake. Welcome from our family to yours.

Jim Clark purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Jim Clark chose Shaver Lake

2 entrances [one with 16' wheel chair ramp] and the other with heat mats for easy stair climb during winter snow. Diversity, and Affordability. Within a few hours of San Francisco or Los Angeles, your family and friends can enjoy affordable all-season recreational amenities in a pristine alpine setting, Shaver Lake. Maybe the best kept mountain secret in California. This luxurious mountain lodge is spacious, rustic, fully-equipped, Wi-Fi connected, and perfect for one family or two. We wanted to be able to bring our kid's friends with us on a vacation adventure and have found Shaver to be the perfect spot - fun, safe, adventurous, and relaxing.

What makes this cabin unique

What makes Shaver Lake and this cabin unique is that it has all the important amenities of Tahoe or Mammoth, but priced affordably for thrifty family budgets. At this spacious vacation home you can completely relax in fine comfort when indoors and experience high adventure outdoors: sledding on this property, or nearby hiking, biking, snow skiing, water skiing, sailing, sculling, fishing, ATV.

If you have a maximum of 8 guests in your party, the rental prices are discounted 20% and one of the upstairs wings will be closed. You will still enjoy all of our amenities.

Great Family Cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was clean and well thought out for our multiple family Thanksgiving gathering. There was plenty of space for group meal prep, dining, playing games and just being together. The kitchen and bathroom updates added to our comfort. It's close to the lake marinas, the town, restaurants and shops as well as walking in the immediate neighborhood. We loved staying here and will definitely return. Thanks, Mr. Clark, for being so helpful and so thorough as we planned our stay.

Perfect home away from home for all. The younger kids and the older ones loved the house and all the fun amenities. The owner was very helpful and responded quickly when we had questions. This house made our vacation very special. Thank you Jim !

Rustic log cabin feel. Great for large families. Modern conveniences.

  • 5 of 5

We highly recommend this home. We stayed 4 nights and 5 days over the 4th of July Holiday. There were 8 of us that included our grand baby. The Home was clean, bed comfortable, modern kitchen and great deck with a BBQ that we used everyday. Convenient to town and the lake. Great smart TV that allowed access to Apple TV and NetFlix. The kitchen had a 3 barstool raised peninsula that allowed conversations while cooking and open to the dinning and living room. Great garage with automatic opener and two separate parking driveways. The washer and dryer and dishwasher was a great help. The position of the house and deck allowed for shade most of the day so we sat outside often and played games. Great fireplace with river rock hearthstone but it wasn't cold enough to use. The owner Jim, was hospitable and quick to respond to questions. The spa was large and we used it often in the late evening. It was however sad to see how many ancient trees, both Tamarack, Spruce and Redwood that have succumbed to the bark beetle. Highway 168 runs just down from the cabin but traffic noise was not an issue and I love watching people so I sat on the deck most mornings and evenings people watching. Thank you to our wonderful host Jim. We will be back.

Nice large cabin

  • 3 of 5

Very nice place for 2 families to stay. Video cameras a little over the top and the wood floors will leave your socks black and gross. Very centrally located little close to highway

Owner's Response: Glad you thought it is a nice home, and well located. RE floors - during shoulder season w lots of wet snow and mud, doesn't take long for 12 sets of shoes to dirty the floors. Also wearing socks to-from Gazebo spa will also bring in dirt. We mention in write-up that security cameras exist at each entrance to discourage entry when our home is empty - pretty normal in the mountains.

Fantastic Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful family time staying at this mini mansion. Very clean and spacious house. Fantastic beds and great kitchen with all one will need to dine and wine. Close to China peak and to center of the town. WE are going back again and hopefully at least twice a year!
