About Elisabeth & Thomas Freeland

Elisabeth & Thomas Freeland We vacationed in this area from Arizona for ten years before making the move to Fidalgo Island. It was love a first sight. We have a beautiful store in Anacortes called Elisabeth's Cottage By The Sea which we run year round. We sell jewelry, beads, wine, gift items and much more. We also give silversmithing and bead classes. The store is located at 619 Commercial Ave.

Elisabeth & Thomas Freeland purchased this house in 2009

Why Elisabeth & Thomas Freeland chose Northwest Washington

We purchased this home because it is such a peaceful and quiet area with an amazing water view. We love being on the deck and enjoying watching the eagles, herons and boats go by. The house is on .72 of an acre so it feels very secluded. It has many pines trees, and is truly magical when the wind blows through the pine trees. Hence the name 'Whispering Pines'. One of the most amazing things about this area is that there are no city lights around and the stars are much brighter because of it. Take a sleeping bag outside in the backyard and enjoy stargazing.

What makes this house unique

Whispering Pines is a 3 bedroom 2 bath home with a living room looking out to the water and islands. It also has a family room with a great entertainment center to enjoy movie night with the whole family. The dining room seats 10 at the 8 foot long table that also looks out to the view and leads to the great deck. There is a bar b que on the deck for those outdoor cookouts.

A very comfortable cabin

  • 5 of 5

The view is awesome, and there's wonderful evenings on the deck or beach. We stayed here with our 6 children we all fit comfortably. The house has a nice cabin feel to it.

Nice but needs some attention

  • 3 of 5

The view is gorgeous and the place is comfortable. However. for what we paid, I agree with another reviewer that it needs some attention to details. The house was freezing cold when we arrived as the heat was off. It would have been nice if owners came earlier to turn on heat so not to have to wear our coats for 1+ hours while house warmed. The driveway is steep and has a couple large potholes, which we bottomed out in the Volvo sedan. The gas fireplace didn't work, and I don't recall that noted in the listing. There were cobwebs in the main shared bathroom, dirty BBQ utinsils left on the grill and half-wet/musty sheets in the washer (we washed them). The TV/DVD player in the main living room we couldn't figure out as there were 4 remotes and no instructions, but I think the DVD doesn't work anyway. It would have been nice to know since we got Redbox video to watch. We did end up using in the small living room but the TV was a small screen. Overall, we had a good weekend and certainly enjoyed the beautiful views, but I think it's a tad overpriced and adding twenty five/night for an additional person and a one hundred cleaning fee seemed high.

Fun, relaxing

  • 4 of 5

Great space roomy, we wish we could have had access to the water but there's no trespassing signs on both sides of the yard. Relaxing atmosphere. Difficult to drive down the hill with the RV parked partway onto their drive.

Beautiful, comfortable and oh so relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

Spent the weekend with two other girlfriends. We each had our own bedroom with plenty of extra room to spare. The weather was supposed to be terrible with the forecast for a "historical storm." That didn't happen, which was wonderful. Even though it was a bit wet and windy which kept us from being able to enjoy the beautiful outdoor porch and furniture, the views from the entire front of the house (living room, kitchen, dining room and master bedroom) were spectacular. We want to return with our husbands next time!

The only thing that would make this better for multi-couple gatherings would be another bathroom (there are two)

as it can sometimes be a bit awkward to share facilities. For a large family, however, it is perfect! The access to the beach was a bit challenging at the moment - lots of stairs down to the beach using the neighbor's access - but once we got to the bottom it was too unsafe to go the last 6 feet as the stairway seemed to have gotten washed away. Nothing that I'm sure won't get fixed in the near future.

Highly recommend this home. Definitely hope to return in the not too distant future, especially at a time that we might be able to access the beach. Thank you, Elisabeth and Thomas, for sharing your beautiful vacation home with us.

Perfect Place on the Water

  • 5 of 5

We rented this home to have a relaxing place where family could come to us. We couldn't have been happier with the home and location. With breathtaking views and beach access down neighbor's stairs, we were able to get our beach fix every day. There was plenty of room for everyone and some of the sitting areas were never even used as we had more than enough space. We were able to use the well-stocked kitchen and cook every day. The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of towels and little extras like shampoo, soap, etc. We enjoyed sitting on the deck every day and night and it was quite comfortable. I might suggest some new patio furniture, but not necessary. Thanks so much for a great place to stay and enjoy the beautiful area.

Amazing beautiful great fun for the whole family!

  • 5 of 5

We had 12 family members stay in this beautiful home for over 6 days. We could not have had a better time. The views are absolutely breath taking, the weather was amazing. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking meals for a large family. The fridge is a great size for all that yummy seafood you can get in Washington. The kids played down on the beach for about 10 hours a day, and can't wait to go back. If you are a large family, or just a couple wanting to get away for the weekend, this house is perfect. The beds were comfy, and there were plenty of them. Sheets, towels, soaps, local art galore in this place. The kitchen table was incredible and had plenty of room for us to enjoy each meal together as a family. We plan on another trip to Washington, and will stay here no doubt.
