Niseko is located on the North island of Hokkaido, Japan - near the international airport of Sapporo. It was originally a thermal spring spa resort known only to the local Japanese, but was eventually discovered by outsiders looking for the perfect snow experience. Niseko is now famous around the world for its exceptional powder snow. From December to April each year the resort is covered in a blanket of up to 15 metres of pristine powder snow. There are over 50 kms (30 miles) of groomed slopes across four linked resorts: Hirafu, Hanazono, An'nupuri and Higashiyama.
Niseko is now one of the fastest growing ski resorts in the world, and at the heart of Niseko is Hirafu, the best appointed village in the area. With its unique Japanese character and mix of international influences, Hirafu offers an experience not found anywhere else in the world. English is widely spoken unlike many other Japanese ski resorts where communication can be difficult.
Fabulous food, fascinating culture and fantastic snow. Go ahead and do something fabulous this year – SKI NISEKO!
During the rest of the year (May-November), Niseko is well known for outdoor pursuits like golf, white water rafting, fly fishing, road cycling, mountain biking, and hiking. With its mild temperatures, Niseko provides the perfect escape from the humid summer experienced by many Asian cities. With its wealth of activities, delectable seasonal produce, renowned hot springs and breathtaking scenic beauty, Niseko offers an exceptional destination year round. Niseko has it all.
I am in my 50's and live in Australia.
Geoff Kendall purchased this condo in 2007
I bought this apartment in Japan to take advantage of the amazing powder snow during the Australian Summer period (Dec-April) and because I really enjoy the Japanese cultural experience - especially the food! My teenage daughter also loves it so much she took up Japanese at school.
Apart from the snow sports, there is nothing more enjoyable than soaking in a traditional Japanese onsen (natural thermal hot pools) followed by a traditional Japanese meal of sushi, teriyaki, yakitori, etc... The views of Mt. Youtei (an extinct volcano similar in size and shape to Mt Fuji) are spectacular.
A short walk to the gondola and absolutely breathtaking views of the mountain! Close to all the great restaurants and onsens! Geoff was easy to work with and gave great restaurant recommendations, him paired with the top notch service from the concierge (Niseko Central) we were totally take care of and had everything we could possibly need! The complimentary ski valet was incredible, we left our boots and skis at the gondola and never had to haul anything around. The beds were comfortable, there was plenty of room, and we had everything we needed and more. Yama Shizen was worth every penny and I highly recommend this condo to anyone who is looking for a prime ski vacation. Niseko is an incredible place!
Our stay at Yama Shizen was flawless. We were a very short walk to everywhere - food, bars, onsens and of course, the slopes! The apartment was clean and the service from the HT team was very very helpful. They helped us organise transfers and restaurant bookings before our arrival, as well as providing some great recommendations. The apartment was very spacious. We were in Niseko for a girls getaway but the apartment would also be suitable for couples and families. The views of the mountain from our window were a highlight - from the large windows in the living room you probably have the best view in town. I would definitely stay there if I went back to Niseko. Thanks HT Holidays!
Geoff was extremely easy to deal with and the concierge for HT Holidays was as well. Helped take care of everything from airport transfers to lift tickets to a day trip to Rusutsu. Niseko is a phenomenal place that us Americans are just now hearing about. Highly recommend this place for location to the lifts in village. It is hard to get both in Niseko but this unit at Yama Shizen checks all of the boxes. Assemble your crew and send it!
awesome location for restaurants
walk to the gondola via shortcut- 4 mins
valet ski/boot minding at the godola base
very comfortable apartment with concierge service
Great location for restaurants and access to the Quad Chair, also an easy walk to the shuttle.
Real espresso coffee downstairs from 7.30am. The Apartments were in very good condition and efficiently serviced. Finally the apartments had a point blank view of the fireworks on New Years.
We had a wonderful time in Niseko and Yama Shizen West was absolutely perfect!! We loved our accommodations--the location was convenient to the ski slopes, to the shuttle, and to the restaurants and shops/rental stores in town, the building was lovely, and our apartment was comfortable, clean, just the right size, and with all of the necessities we needed. The views from the apartment are so great, too! HT Holidays did a fantastic job before and during our trip, even arranging a cake for my husband's birthday. We really enjoyed our time in Niseko and would definitely love to go back someday. Ideally we could stay at this gem again!
Niseko is the centre of powder snow skiing in the Northern Winter (Dec to April). In addition to the many skiing options there are fabulous restaurants, onsens (thermal hot pools) and bars - plenty to see and do. It is also a beautiful area to visit in Spring, Summer and Autumn/Fall if you like stunning rural scenery, golf, cycling, fly fishing, white water rafting. Plenty of local festivals to choose from.
