About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible sofa sleeper, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2-6)

This is a wonderful old Taos adobe home. The original house (now bedroom #2) was once the home of a family of 9-kitchen and bath then were outdoors. It is thought to be 250+ years old and is considered an historical property. Like many Taos homes it was added to in the ensuing years.

This home is delightful for a couple. It is a spacious home which is unusual for an old adobe. The layout is perfect for a couple and would be especially comfortable for two couples since the two good sized bedrooms each have full, private baths and are separated by the sunroom and great room. There is a sofa sleeper in the sunroom and and in the great room is a sofa for an additional guest.(Up to a total of 7guests) The house is cozy in the winter due to thick adobe walls, two operable kiva fireplaces and a very efficient gas heaters. There is always a good supply of firewood under the carport. Summer is delightful and cool inside with screened operable windows and swamp coolers . Great for outdoor living with a deck off master bedroom and a wonderful front flagstone patio with table and chairs, BBQ and outdoor fireplace. The house is furnished with interesting antiques. sculpture and original art. The kitchen is fully equipped and ready to produce those gourmet feasts or a quick snack for two. Bathroom #2 has a washer and dryer for those chores that call out even on vacation. The yard is fenced and well behaved dogs are welcome at a small additional fee. ($25 per dog per visit) **Contact me for special rate at casademelissa@gmail.com

The house has a wonderful, peaceful feeling and yet is only a few minutes from all Taos has to offer..good restaurants, shops including MY shop Red Cat Melissiana. ,galleries, the Taos Pueblo and many great outdoor activities).

Keywords: cozy, yet spacious, beautifully decorated and mountain views too and pet friendly

PLEASE NOTE; Even if my calendar says this property is reserved contact me. I have a total of 10 Taos rentals and have accommodations for any size group...

About Melissa /Taos mgr.

I was a California landscaper who wanted a simpler life so I moved to Taos. I fell in love with an old adobe home by the river and bought it. Then I fell in love with another old adobe and bought it for a vacation rental. I have a shop in downtown Taos Red Cat Melissiana 110 Dona Luz in the Guadelupe Plaza just behind the main Plaza. It is very 'Taos Eclectic' and must be seen to be believed...

Melissa /Taos mgr. purchased this house in 2007

Why Melissa /Taos mgr. chose New Mexico

I love old adobe homes. They have such substance, personality and character This house has a cozy and welcoming feeling that everyone who has stayed here comments on and yet for an old adobe is amazingly spacious. The house has a private enclosed yard, is nicely landscaped (next project big container plants and an irrigation system) and great mountain views.

What makes this house unique

This home has the charm of an old adobe (original room 250 years+) but has all the modern amenities we expect. It is in a quiet location, yet only minutes from all Taos has of offer (i.e. restaurants, galleries, the pueblo and outdoor adventures) I love the deck for sunsets and the outdoor patio, the 4 kiva fireplaces (each bedroom, great room and sunroom) the wood and brick floors and the 46 (count them!) overhead vigas as well as the 14' thick walls. Owner lives 5 minutes away to answer any questions or provide information.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved staying in your wonderful house. I loved your gardens, both flower and vegetable. We enjoyed three meals from your vegetable garden and each was such a treat. I picked apples off the ground and will make jelly when I go home. I'll send you some. Our week in your home was everything we could have asked for and more. You have created a paradise. Thank you for sharing it!

Amazing Stay...pure Taos, peaceful and enchanting

  • 5 of 5

This house was incredible! Beautifully decorated, every detail was included, modern amenities in a historic adobe house. The yard was a wonderful private desert landscape with sage and stone, several seating areas including a nice patio in the front of the house with a grill and a quiet second patio right of the main bedroom with beautiful views of Tres Piedras and the Taos landscape. I would recommend this vacation rental to anyone who wishes to experience Taos in its purest form.

Owner's Response: What a nice review! Thank you so much. It is a great old adobe. I love furnishing and decorating (so much fun) and pride myself on having all amenities to make my guests stay more enjoyable. You were the first guests to enjoy the back deck with overhang. Previously it was just too hot to enjoy during the day. Always thinking of new improvements and upgrades

Warm summer night

  • 4 of 5

Our family was in town for a wedding and everything at the home was very nice. It was quiet and private. If I had to make a suggestion it would be to have something to cover the skylight that is directly over one of the beds. I definitely would recommend staying there and hope to again someday.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review and glad you liked the house. Bingo! Perfect suggestion about the skylight! Don't know why I didn't think of it myself. My friend and co-worker just hemmed shears for the three skylights in my little house and what a difference it made. Shears filter yet soften the light. Perfect suggestion and will do!!

Truly Charming

  • 5 of 5

I'm glad she sent directions because cell service for Verizon was spotty. The home was much larger than I'd anticipated. There was brand new roasting sticks, wood, and Boy Scout water waiting for us as we arrived - so S'Mores were a must!!! I loved character or the home; I'm from NM so adobe was nothing new but the age & history of this home made it much more special. I love Melissa's properties. We've stayed a couple now. I'll always stay @ her place when we come back later in the fall. Thank you!!

Owner's Response: Such a nice review! Yes it is a wonderful old adobe. I'm not good at square footage, but I do know it is spacious yet friendly and cozy. I always appreciate return visitors especially ones who have stayed at a number of my places and enjoy my style!

Upon arriving at house the temperature inside the house was at least 85 degrees and outside temperature was in the 80, horrible conditions to arrive in. We called the owner and she said there was no AC and to turn on the fans and open the doors and the temperature should be down by morning. Which was not unacceptable and we would never leave doors open as the house wasn't in the greatest of neighborhoods. We ended up not staying and and calling around and found a bed breakfast and got a room where we could be comfortable. We asked the owner if she could give us credit for a future stay but she was not willing to do so. it was advertised as heating & AC. But there was no AC. Sad, whatever happened to customer service?

Owner's Response: John, you are my only one star review ever! The information on the house clearly states, fans, swamp cooler, operable and screened windows and doors. I own ten properties, manage another five and not one has air conditioning. If you had contacted me about your need for air conditioning we could have resolved the issue before you ever booked. It is why you either contact an owner or at least read the vrbo information as to what is or is not available. It is certainly not an unsafe neighborhood either. Just an old Taos neighborhood. Many single women have stayed here with no issues. I sometimes stay there and my neighbors are nothing but gracious! You received a full refund and I am sure you were happier elsewhere. I pride myself in my degree of customer service to ALL of my guests and find they always appreciate it--except you. ****PLEASE NOTE: In Spring of 2017 I purchased three portable swamp coolers for this home. This last weekend was the real test! 90's in Taos and home stayed cool. I went morning of guests arrival and filled reservoirs with ice and water. Delightfully cool. Melissa

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this property on February 26, 2016 through February 28, 2016 with my fiancé and two friends. We were all delighted with how cozy and clean this rental was. I would definitely consider returning to this rental for our next visit to Taos!

side note: we were surprised when we entered inside and saw how much space there was as I didn't get the full impression from the photos.

Thanks Melissa!

Good layout and great for pets

  • 4 of 5

I liked the rustic feel of the house and the fenced in yard was great for our small dogs. My husband was unhappy with the "vintage" tv that had no reception. Once we saw how much traffic there is in town I was glad that we were in a quiet area.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. Glad your dogs liked the fenced yard. Yes sometimes downtown Taos can be a bit congested and some folks like to be away from that especially since you are a short drive to the Plaza when you choose to go into town. I'm sorry your husband had difficulties with the TV.. Some guests are not familiar with satellite Tv. My next guests mentioned that they ended up watching very little TV because they enjoyed my collection of DVD's and yes, the "vintage" Videos.

Car: necessary

This home is on a back road, fields, pastures, horses and cattle yet only 5 minutes to the Plaza (Back roads bypass traffic such as it is in a small town) Mountain view from home
