Our family vacation was a complete success, mainly because the house, pool and owners were outstanding. We plan to vacation there many times in the future. Because we were able to get the large home, we were able to have our four grandchildren and one nephew stay there with my husband and myself. We never wanted to leave. The children had room to play inside and out and there was never an issue about the noise because we had this great private wonderland. Horses to feed and pet were one of the highlights for the kids. I would recommend this Home Away to anyone that loves the outdoors, privacy and room to play. The house itself was terrific for me, I loved the Victorian appeal, the large kitchen counter and cooking area made a quick job of preparing and serving meals. Our family says THANKS to the friendly owners and we hope to see you again very soon. Janice, Gil, Justin, Daryl, Dara, Sydney, Destiny, Cari, Jeffrey, Spencer and Wendi (our Pomeranian).

2 1/2 to 3 Stars (good, but needs interior painting/cleaning)

  • 3 of 5

We stayed for Christmas while visiting family who live in the area. We have four kids and a dog so a place like this was great for us. The location was great for us. The house is set back off the road and is beautiful on the outside. The inside was more run down and could use some deep cleaning. We did not mind the old furniture or the old house feel-it's sort of what you are there for; but we thought some fresh paint and deep cleaning would go a long way.

There was lots to love about the house besides the location. The owners had a Christmas tree up and the house was lit for Christmas. Really looked great. We had a HUGE basket of candy and cookies set out for us that was so nice. The house has games and books. The kitchen had what we needed. Lots of towels, etc. Very spacious and accommodated everyone in our family. Great areas to walk the dog. Owners worked with us on getting in the house early for check in and were great in every other phase. No complaints with owners at all; they are new and mentioned things they were working on as far as updates, etc. The price was good for what we needed, I am glad we were able to use the house. Mostly this place could greatly benefit from some painting and deep cleaning.

We think places like this are neat, but you never know what you're going to get until you show up. If you are not up for something new you should stay at a hotel. We would certainly look at renting this place again and wish the owners well with their efforts.

Cute and Quaint

  • 3 of 5

Cute place but light fixtures had fewer bulbs that required and not enough wattage which made place too dim.

Perfect fit for our special family get together!

  • 4 of 5

We came down to the Brandon area to attend our youngest daughter's wedding at Casa Lantana, Brandon, FL. The venue was very easy to get to and only about 10-15 minutes away.

When we arrived, the home was so inviting with all of the festive decor on the front porch and throughout the home! This lovely home was a perfect fit for our family of six, one of which was a three year old. The owner and caretaker were very accommodating to all of our requests while staying at the Country Retreat. We hosted a family dinner for 12, we had a private pre-wedding Zumba class for about 14 people in the driveway and we were able to host a drop by brunch at the house the day after the wedding. Everyone had a wonderful time and the large, very well stocked kitchen, helped to make it easy in hosting all of these events. And at the any point during the day, you could sit at the many outdoor seating areas and enjoy the beautiful, huge, Spanish Moss draped oaks and watch the horses in the fields behind the house. All and all, our stay was wonderful and the Country Retreat was the perfect place for our family to all be together and enjoy a very special wedding day!

Awesome house that was great for a family of four and pets.

  • 5 of 5

Jan made the arrangements and was helpful with reservations and very accommodating. Jan was very responsive and worked with Claus and his wife in opening up the house when I locked the door and forgot the key. Pool was wonderful and location is close enough to downtown Tampa. Only small comment was covered casserole pan, a hair dryer (we left one we bought), and some games (we left some game cards). These are just st minor items as the house and stay was wonderful. Great value that added to the wonderful experience.
