Overview

About the property

Property has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room, kitchen, sleeps five

In central historical Venice, a few steps from St. Mark’s Square, the very center of the town. The apartment is on the first floor of a XVI century palace with private water entrance. It's very comfortable in size (around 1615 sqft).

It has three bedrooms (a master bedroom and two large single rooms), a fully equipped kitchen, a large living room with a new big sofa and two armchairs. It has two bathrooms (the master one with the bath and shower, the second one with the shower). It is furnished with antique Venetian style furniture.

The apartment looks out on one side on to a small courtyard with a Romanesque well-head and the extraordinary view of St. Mark’s bell tower and on the other on to three typical inner canals and a stone bridge right in front of the living room window.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Many thanks, once again, for the use of your fabulous apartment right in the centre of Venice - we found it to contain everything we could have possibly wanted. As promised, the apartment gave us great access to all the usual tourist hot spots (right on the doorstep) as well as being only a pleasant stroll away from the quieter but equally attractive areas of Venice. In fact the apartment is so well positioned that we stayed indoors one day and did our entire sightseeing from the windows - watching the tourists and various boats and gondolas pass by! Your advice on transportation from the airport to the apartment was also much appreciated and we found it very straightforward - virtually door to door.

It would be great to return one day - and perhaps see Venice at carnival time.

Kind regards,

Richard, Andrea, James and Charlotte

Fantastic property in an ideal location

  • 5 of 5

We will definitely go back!

The apartment is spacious with some of the best canal views we have experienced in Venice. Very clean and tidy with everything you would expect in a traditional Venetian apartment but with air conditioning.

Half way between the Rialto and San Marco, just off one of the streets joining the two. Far enough away to be lovely and quiet.

Carlo the owner was very friendly, meeting us at the taxi stop and taking his time showing us the apartment, main shops and restaurants on the 2 minute route to the apartment. We couldn't have asked for more.

Erratic and disrespectful treatment from host

  • 1 of 5

Carlos was extremely rude on any occasion that there was interaction with him.

Upon arrival, we had some challenges locating the apartment (Google Maps does not work

well in Venice). Carlos was unresponsive at first, and referred us to his brother who was dismissive and unable to help us. When we finally got in touch he literally erupted in anger that there were 4 people plus an infant for the booking, despite the fact that was what we had reserved and agreed upon in our booking. He later came back to apologize, but what an unpleasant way to start a vacation :(

Also - if you are from America, beware. He clearly has a negative and hostile perception towards Americans. Here are a few quotes he said:

"My chairs are getting ruined because overweight Americans keep on sitting in them"

"You guys (referencing Americans) are disrespectful, that is how you are"

Upon check out, we cleaned the apartment thoroughly and left it in better condition that was found. My friend and her family (who is 4 months pregnant and has a 3 y/o child) was verbally attacked by Carlos when he came upon check out. Again, he was inexplicably hostile. the things he was upset about:

1. A desk fan not being put in the correct place

2. A spare mattress for an infant, not being put in the correct place (my friends forgot where it went)

Please keep in mind, before leaving we wiped down all the counters, washed all the dishes, stripped down the beds and tidied up.

When Carlos arrived for check out, for the second time, he erupted in anger to my friends, and in front of their 3 year old child and used profanity. My friend, who is 4 months pregnant had to leave the situation with her child bc of how upsetting it was.

Upon check out, we cleaned the apartment and left it better than it was found.

It is sad that we paid money (also a cleaning fee which is included in the cost) and traveled half way around the world to be harassed by a renter who we are giving money to. I would not recommend this place if you are American or visiting Venice from out of town, because Carlos's behavior may ruin your vacation like it did to us. We are very respectful adults and my friends and I are shocked by the hostile treatment received.

A Very Authentic Venetian Experience!

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely time in Venice. The location of this apartment was ideal for sightseeing and accessibility. And to be able to relax in the lovely sunlit living room while enjoying the gondoliers outside was delightful. We learned during our 10 days in Italy, that there are some cultural adjustments involved in travelling to this country. Air conditioning is something that Americans are quite used to, but in Venice is not a guarantee. Since Venice was our last stop in Italy, we had already adjusted to open windows and lovely breezes as a different way of life - part of the delightful uniqueness of this country. But we did run the AC at night and it was quite sufficient. We did not notice any unusual odors from the carpet as mentioned in a previous review. And I am usually quite sensitive to things like that! We also really enjoyed a tour of the less frequented areas of Venice with Monica. It was wonderful and she is a very knowledgeable guide with great personal narratives. The only thing we would change about our visit to Venice would be the overwhelming amount of tourists in certain areas - but then that is something most Venetians would change as well! That is one reason we found Carlo and Monica to be the perfect hosts as they helped us navigate the crowds and find the true Venice. And the help with our airport taxi was very valuable. I agree with something Carlo said below - this is the perfect apartment for travelers, and adventurers, but perhaps not for tourists hoping to find America in Venice. My only reason for 4 stars vs. 5 is that I reserve 5 stars for very very few stops along the way. Ciao!

Location, Location, Location

  • 5 of 5

Five stars because the great location doesn't get any better. If location is what you need, this VRBO will definitely suit you. It also boasts a wonderful and spacious living room with a lovely view of the canal. The 2nd and 3rd bedroom was fine for children through adults. The master bath is shared with bedroom 2 but is spacious, though in need of bleach. The master bedroom's carpet needs to be changed. It smells and is unsightly. Having said this, if I were going to Venice again, I would stay here for the location, view and living room. It gave us a sense of Venice we would not have felt in a regular hotel.

FYI - May - September ask the owner to turn the AC on just in case you need it during your stay.

Though there is a clothes washer, there is no dryer. A drying rack does the trick in a pinch.

Overall a good trip and great stay, with the issues all being minor compared to the phenomenal location.

Classic Venetian apartment directly on canals and perfect centralized location

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is very spacious and beautifully furnished in a classic old world style with many large windows opening to picture perfect canal views. Learning your way through the narrow Venetian streets is challenging, but when you know your way it is a mere 5-minute walk to San Marco square in one direction, and the same to Bridge Reale in the other direction. The bathrooms, beds and furnishings were all excellent. Luca met us at the water bus station despite our late evening arrival and led us to the apartment while kindly helping to carry our luggage. Monica is the perfect personal tour guide. We took her 3-hour Venice major attractions walking tour on day 1 and her 3-hour authentic local neighborhoods walking tour on day 2. She is extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to experience her beloved Venice with!

You must stay HERE if you go to Venice!

  • 5 of 5

I spent hours looking at every detail of every rental in Venice, and after finally choosing this one, we could not be any more thrilled with the choice. Carlo was immediately responsive and replied promptly to all questions, but the apartment itself is the biggest gem of all. It is in a 500+ year old building with so much wonderful history! It has been in Carlo's wife Monica's and her brother Luca's family for generations! The antiques they have furnished it with are lovely, comfortable and I couldn't imagine it being furnished any other way. You FEEL like you have gone back in time. Yet it has every amenity you could possibly want, including a washing machine and hair dryer!

It is surrounded by canals on THREE sides!! There are gondolas and boats everywhere during the day and you are serenaded by the gondoliers all afternoon!! It is so romantic and charming, but my teenage children were also enchanted by it all. The location could not be any more perfect. Everything you want or need is minutes from your door! Yet it is very quiet and peaceful to sleep at night.

The best part of our trip, besides our apartment and it's location, was the private tour that we booked with Carlo's wife, Monica. She is a licensed tour guide in Venice (which we learned is very important because there are many illegal "fake" guides taking away from the professionalism of this trade in Venice). Monica was raised in Venice and gave us so much history and detail that we were flabbergasted. We felt grateful to have her to ourselves for the day and could ask her endless questions. I can't iagine seeing Venice any other way. We never would have seen or learned as much as we did if we hadn't spent our first morning with her. She gave us great ideas of what to see and do for the rest of our stay.

We went in March and I think it might be the best time of year because it was not yet so crowded as summers there get, so if you go in summer, be sure to book Monica early so you get her. You will not be sorry with this choice unless you like modern, shiny and new everything... but if that is the case, you might not like Venice at all.

Venice is full of famous, instantly recognisable attractions, the main attractions here is the city itself. This is the city built on water, divided by canals, bridges and without a vehicle in sight. A great place to start your journey is in the San Marco district where is located our property and home to the city's best known square, Piazza San Marco, and two of its best known attractions, Basilica di San Marco and Palazzo Ducale.

While this is a city made for walking, you won't mind putting your strollers to the test as Venice is a melange of Byzantine, Goth and Renaissance architecture, making it particularly memorable for those of you who appreciate art and beauty. Add to this the fact that it was the unrivalled trade centre between Europe and the Orient for over four hundred years which has also led to a fascinating mix of cultures and traditions.
