About The Owner

We are two professionals living in Cincinnati. We are nature lovers and enjoy many outdoor sports and activities. We love our cabin and spend as much time there as we could. We would like to share our cabin with other nature lovers to help us offset some of the maintenance and improvement cost.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2005

Why The Owner chose Kentucky

We discovered this Kentucky’s best kept secret 4 years ago. We fell in love with it. The lake is deep and large, but yet quiet. It is within Daniel Boone National Forest with beautiful foliages, wild lives, and rock formations. There are aslo plenty of amazing hiking trails and other recreational activities nearby.

What makes this cabin unique

We practically decided to buy the cabin as soon as we stepped out the realtor’s car! The cabin is nested under a big giant green tree umbrella and is only 50 feet from the water! We love to drink morning coffee on the dock while watching the morning mist coming up from the lake. We love to kayak to different coves in the lake to see wild lives and watch the milkyway in the middle of lake at the middle of night. We love to sit on the swing with camp fire and exchange jokes and stories with friends. We also love to drive on those long and winding country roads to see foliage changes and get wherever they lead us. The only problem is we have to leave and return to the reality!

Not what we were expecting

  • 2 of 5

I want this review to be constructive for both future renters and the owner.

Starting with the positives: the screened in porch is wonderful, I drank my morning coffee on the porch and enjoyed the beautiful view of the lake! The fire pit was great and fortunately there was left over wood and we were able to have a fire each night! The private dock was great for late afternoon fishing, I caught several small pan fish using wax worms. The cabin is located at the end of an outlet of the lake making it a very quiet part of the lake with minimal boat traffic. The wifi is excellent and we had no issues with cell phone coverage. The cabin is located about 10 minutes off the highway and is close to grocery, restaurants, shopping. The cabin is only a few turns from the main road and was easy to find.

The negatives: The cabin is in need of a good cleaning, the kitchen cabinets and ceilings are dusty and a bit grimy. The shower is VERY small, it was very difficult to shower normally without bumping into the walls. The toilet needs to be tightened down as it rocks when you sit on it. The light by the dock needs a bulb, we were unable to fish when it got dark because we couldn't see. The kayaks are a little worse for wear, still usable, but the seat backs are beginning to crack and they were full of water and spiders..eek! The mattress in the main bedroom is soft and sinking in the middle, it was not very comfortable and both our backs were hurting after spending three nights there.

General Info: While this cabin is located on a lake I would not advise bringing your boat to the cabin. Unless you are a trailer expert, there is a no good place to turn around with your truck and trailer. The TV does not have cable or satellite which may be fine for you, but I like to have the TV on as background noise, there are several DVDs to choose from though. The grill is not a gas grill as described/pictured, it is a charcoal grill. If you are staying here be sure to bring your own charcoal/lighter fluid.

A bit disappointed

  • 2 of 5

I don't know what to say about our stay in the cabin.....when we first walked in the musty, moldy smell was overwhelming, and even with the dehumidifier on the smell didn't go away. I think the cabin could be amazing with a lot of cleaning in and outside and a lot of TLC. The shower is just rediculously small and I'm a small skinny person, and really how much is a new shampoo holder and some bleach? We had a good time but for the money and the condition I didn't think it was worth it, but it could be with with lots of TLC!

Great getaway

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time here with my husband and two children. The kayaks and paddles boards were so much fun, the views were amazing and it was very private and scenic. We ate meals in a closed in porch overlooking the lake. Wished we had a light by dock for night fishing but overall is a great getaway destination. We will definately be booking again!

The owner has amended all things listed below. As I stated in my comment below, this place is better than any hotel. Loved the privacy and serenity of it all. Also, check-in and check-out was quick and simple, Thanks Jim

Away From It All

  • 3 of 5

My husband and I had awesome vacation visiting family and friends. This house is a piece of paradise. But needs owners attention. Things need to be replaced: shower curtain, broom, outside grill, ect. No adequate outside lighting. Very dangerous! The shower is really 3x3. The porch was the best. Spent most time there, since no television hook-up. And last but not lease, we did not have 4 wheel drive and wished we did. It's still better than any hotel.
