About The Owner

I am a photographer and horse trainer. I travel a lot, that is how I found the unique area of Clark & Buck Taylor's cabin. I always travel with my dog's,a German Shepherd and a lively Jack Russell, and a new addition of a Great Dane! They LOVE to come out to the ranch and go hiking. My photography was fortunate enough to grace the cover of Cody & Beyond magazine & feature pictures of the area & the Cody Rodeo in the 2011-2013 & 2015 magazine. I spend my Summer's photographing some of the West's most memorable rodeo's but, the Cody Stampede s the most special of all!

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2004

Why The Owner chose Wyoming

I loved the fact that I could be close to the mountains and yet when family and friends visit we could be close to TWO tourist towns and Yellowstone Park. We never run out of things to do! The mountains are so close and beautiful, and there is a wonderful view in every direction being up so high. Also a big factor is that even though the ranch is private , it is paved up to where the property starts. I can hike right off from the cabin & the Shoshonee National Forest is in the backyard. BLM land backs up behind the cabin so there is plenty of open space. Hiking in the Clarks Fork Canyon is such an experience, hearing the rush of the river, spotting wildlife, glorious views. Picturing the calvary chasing down Cheif Joseph and his tribe many years ago. Best is getting up, sipping coffee and watching the sunrise over the Big Horn's 80 miles to the East, and the colors glowing on the mountains behind you.

What makes this cabin unique

Enjoy complete privacy & be born free as you will be the only guest at the ranch! Peacefulness, great fishing, hiking in the mountains with many access trails. Seeing the wildlife run free, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, fresh air and awesome night skies with no city lights. I like the fact that historical figure Jeremiah Johnson used to frequent the area. There was a gunfight in the canyon & Cheif Joseph crossed through here when the calvary was in pursuit. There is a lot of history and you can feel it.

The cabin itself is so unique with hand tooled logs right from the Rocky Mountains! The decor is all 'old west', and you really feel a wonderful 'western experience'!

The ranch is pet friendly for pets and horses too. It feels good to think that Hall of Fame Cowboy, Buck Taylor, from 'Gunsmoke', used to own the cabin. You can listen to the coyote's and wolves howl while sitting at your bonfire at night, and really feel like you are in another era. There is plenty of cut firewood at the ranch for your use.

I also send my visitor's a travel planner packet. It has brochure's of activities in the Cody, Lovell, Red Lodge & Yellowstone area. I also include maps of the area, hiking trails, and fishing spot's.

Visitor's may plan well in advance their vacation time. This has gone over well & has proved to be very helpful to vacationer's.

Location

Perfect for star gazers with the naked eye or telescope. Back yard view of the Beartooth Mountains. Superb trailheads into the mountains. Private access to fish on Line Creek. Wonderful wild life viewing from your porch. Excellent fishing on the last wilderness river in Wyoming-The Clark's Fork Of The Yellowstone River!

Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

We took our sons and niece to see Yellowstone for my son's graduation trip. The trip was so much more than I could have ever imagined. The cabin is amazing. The feel of the cabin is like being in the old west with all the perks of modern day. My only regret is we packed our days so full that we didn't get to spend as much time at the cabin as I would have liked. We did however enjoy a great night of grilling, roasting marshmallows and stargazing. I would also like to thank Mrs. Debbie for being so great. We had never used VRBO and she made the experience absolutely painless. She is so nice and thoughtful. We received such great information from her. I wish she had homes everywhere I go. Thank you Mrs. Debbie for sharing your amazing house with us and for helping make our dream vacation an amazing experience!! The house was absolutely gorgeous!!! I hope one day to make it back that direction, and if I do , I will definitely be looking for your home again!

Rustic charm

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here with our two dogs for 5 days. The cabin is very old rustic and charming. It was well stocked. We had some trouble getting into the house initially, a mix up over the instructions, and luckily this did not take too long to sort out. The view is amazing. The decor is lovely. Very private but still close enough to neighbors to not feel isolated. Nice gravel road you can run on as well if that is your thing. Nice old cast iron tub, good for a soak after long days hiking.

The cons are: no air conditioning. It was very very hot. Sweltering in the late summer heat. Terrible shower. Could have used more thorough packet/instructions- for example there was a bad storm our first night and we didn't realize there were storm shutters until afterwards. With 60 mile gusting winds that would have helped a lot.

Overall if original rustic charm and solitude is what you want this is a great place, but I would not stay in the hot summer. I would stay closer in to the lovely town of red lodge next time we are in the area- it is such a nice little place (this cabin an hour away from there).

Owner's Response: Really sorry these guest's did not see the shutters that were attached to the windows, this has never been a problem. Usually the cool mountain air is sufficient, this is the first review in 8 years that it was too hot, but, there is always a first. There is an app VRBO does have now with all instructions, it is very helpful and easy to access. I am also very sorry they did not open it and read everything. I want my guests to have a relaxing and stress free vacation! Red Lodge is a great town, I feel very fortunate to be only 35 minutes, not 1 hour, between 2 wonderful tourist towns-Cody & Red Lodge! We usually take the Chief Joseph Highway up to the Beartooth Highway, go on the top to the wonderful mountain lakes! It is an amazing drive with outstanding view's. Then we come down into Red Lodge for a great dinner, there is a wide variety of choices in restaurant's. You can just circle back to the ranch from there, you wont have to back track. Another day you can head into the best cowboy town in America-Cody! You can also access the East gate to Yellowstone from there and drive " The most scenic route in America"-T. Roosevelt. Either direction will not disappoint!

Absolutely brilliant

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time staying at the Go Away Ranch. It was a beautiful cabin and the setting was very peaceful. It has everything you would need for your hideaway in the mountains. Our host Debbie has done a marvellous job with the cabin and could not have been more helpful. The whole process from start to finish could nor have been smoother. We would recommend her and the cabin to everyone. Thanks Debbie it was a great stay.

Perfect secluded getaway

Beautiful, quiet and clean. The only sounds we could hear was the river below us. Only a couple of miles from the Shoshone National Park too!

It is more like 40 miles between cody and the cabin.we will not be staying there again as we were accused of stealing binoculars yet none of us even seen any nor even a reason to need any.. sad.

Owner's Response: The ranch is 27 miles just North of Cody, not 40. The ranch is historical and part of that charm means there is a log beam that runs through the shower area, if you are over 6' 2", you have to stay to one side of it. No one accused these guests of stealing. Only the binoculars were gone. I find it hard that the guests could keep track because of the large amount of people they had at the ranch. My service had alerted me that a semi-truck came to the cabin and a dozen or so motorcycles were unloaded. I don't authorize events or parties and this definitely was not discussed. The gravel drive way had to be fixed as there were ruts everywhere. I felt bad for my service as they had to clean up someone else's loose garbage everywhere....sad.
