Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cabin in Parks - Rocky Mountain Retreat

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 7-8)

Beautiful Rocky Mountain Retreat is located halfway between Flagstaff and Williams, AZ at 7500 ft elevation surrounded by 3 secluded acres of tall Ponderosa Pines. This immaculate cabin is beautifully decorated and fully furnished with all the modern amenities. There are 2 bathrooms, one queen-size bedroom, a full-size bedroom and a third room with a bunk bed with a full-size on the bottom and twin on top. There are also a pull-out queen sofa-bed. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the modern appliances you could need and full sets of serving and cooking utensils for entertaining. Free wireless internet is available (hopefully for fun not work :-). There is also a full-size washer and dryer. Hair dryers, curling irons and basic toiletries are included. There are plenty of cozy pillows and blankets . You can curl up in front of the stone fireplace and watch the wildlife outside. Rocky Mountain Retreat has all the comforts of home.

Outside the Cabin:: The large wraparound deck is great for outdoor family meals. Then relax with some marshmallows around the campfire or watch the swaying trees or bright stars as you lay in the hammock. Children will love the tree house with slide and hammock, swing sets, horseshoes, or playing basketball in front of the 2-car garage. There is a huge selection of board games, videos and DVDs as well as 3 satellite TVs. Hiking and off-roading trails abound. The Grand Canyon Deer Farm/Petting Zoo and Oak Hill Snowplay area (in winter) are only minutes away. There are several small lakes nearby, as well as the Lava Cave and breath-taking Sycamore Canyon hiking/rock climbing area. The area around our cabin is abundant with elk.

The Area:: Rocky Mountain Retreat offers a true sense of being away from it all, yet the town of and Flagstaff with over 200 restaurants, great night life and shopping is only 20 mins away. The historic Route 66 town of Williams is only 10 mins away, where you can catch the Grand Canyon Railway or Polar Express (in winter). The Grand Canyon is a 45 min drive, and fantastic Oak Creek Canyon/ Sedona is about 30 mins. There are two downhill ski resorts 30 and 45 mins away and a cross country ski trail just a couple minutes away. Snowbowl resort is at 11,500 ft elevation and offers 32 trails of great skiing/snowboarding; in the summer you can take the skyride to the top for panoramic views that include the Grand Canyon, and fantastic hiking. Rocky Mountain Retreat has something for everyone. Why stay in a hotel room or rent a house in a subdivision when you can create the special memories of a real get-away vacation in the cool pines at Rocky Mountain Retreat!

About Dawn

My husband and I have always loved the mountains. He grew up in the city (Chicago), but I grew up in rural California camping in Yosemite most weekends with my parents, wonderful memories... We wanted to own a special mountain retreat where we could build our family memories while our kids were still young (the above picture is 13 years after we built our cabin ;). We love our time in the woods and our cabin has become very special to our family. We truly enjoy sharing our cabin with our guests.

Dawn purchased this cabin in 1999

Why Dawn chose Arizona

We searched a lot of mountain areas and decided that the Flagstaff area had the most to offer - beautiful pine tree covered mountains, close access to skiing, the Grand Canyon and Sedona, a great historic town with tons of restaurants and shopping, and temperatures 20-25 degrees cooler than Phoenix. The town of Flagstaff has a wonderful mix of small-town quaintness and great energy from the young university population. There are fantastic family-owned restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques, as well as all the convenient chain stores we're used to. We knew we wanted acreage with lots of trees (we have enough of 'subdivision life' in Phoenix). We found some beautiful land just 20 mins outside Flagstaff and built our cabin. It was a dream come true for us. We hope your family enjoys this peaceful getaway as much as we have!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We did have a great stay at Rocky Mountain Retreat. It was very comfortable and we had everything we needed. We especially loved the outdoor fire pit. We had a campfire in the snow and made snowmen at night. The kids thought that was really fun! If we come back to Arizona we will definitely stay again and we are telling our friends. Happy New year! Wonderful Family Spot in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

Oh my goodness! This home was more amazing than what I could have imagined! Roomy enough for our family of five and outdoor activities galore. Very private, even though neighbors aren't too far away and are very friendly if you do meet them. Dawn was extremely helpful with any questions or requests we had. Just an absolutely gorgeous place to stay. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!

Beautiful cabin!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is very clean, and decorated beautifully. It is well stocked with anything you could need. The owner, Dawn, was a pleasure to work with and very hospitable. The location is very centrally located. We went to The Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Sedona and Bearizona during our stay. We saw deer, very friendly chipmunks, and a hummingbird sitting in her nest on the property. It is a very peaceful and private setting. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us!

Relaxing and peaceful!

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. The cabin is nicely appointed with supplies already in stock. This was extremely helpful since we flew in! The cabin was very clean and well maintained. Love the privacy of the property with the swings, treehouse and bonfire pit. The kids had fun exploring all of that. Easy access to Williams, Grand Canyon, Upper Antelope Slot Canyon and Wupatki and Sunset Volcano. The wifi was a challenge. We could barely pull a page up on the internet.

Relaxing weekend at beautiful Rocky Mountain Retreat!

  • 4 of 5

This cabin is perfect for a long, relaxing weekend to get out of the city. The house offers everything you could ask for out of rental property. It's a very quick drive into downtown Williams to get a bite to eat and checkout the local shops. We also spent one day at Bearizona which was quick and easy to get to and another day we made the drive up to the Grand Canyon for a helicopter ride. Overall, our stay was fantastic! And our two dogs couldn't have been more happy to run around the property's open acreage :)

The only downside to our stay is that the internet was so slow that it was essentially unusable. It's not that we wanted to sit down and do work all weekend or anything, but when we did have some downtime, it would have been nice to connect our phones and browse the internet or checkout Yelp for local attractions. Between the slow internet and 3G service in the area, it simply wasn't feasible to get online until we got back out on the highway where our LTE picked up again.

A very minor issue, that was easily overshadowed by the beauty of the property and environment. We would definitely come back to this property again!

Beautiful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was a great place to get away from it all but still be close enough to experience everything. It was centrally located to the Grand Canyon and Sedona. We also drove out to the Hoover Dam from here, and it wasn't a bad drive at all. It's a great place to relax after a busy day of sightseeing and the kids loved playing in the "fort" they made.

Amazing Stay in the Pines

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was everything we hoped for and more. As this was our first trip to Arizona, my husband and I wanted to stay in a place that was not only private and abounding with nature, but also within a few hours (or fewer) drive of all of the places we wanted to visit (Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Sedona, Jerome, Williams, Flagstaff, Verde Canyon Railroad). It could not have been any more perfect. We saw so much of beautiful northern AZ, but also felt ourselves longing for another week just to stay in the cabin and enjoy the surrounding area of Parks.

The house was so comfortable, clean and thoughtfully planned. Breakfast and coffee at the dining table was always enjoyable as it was perfect to watch the squirrels and birds outside of the large windows. The master bedroom was very relaxing and we appreciated the walk in closet and ample dresser room, which made for very easy unpacking. Also appreciated was the use of the modern washer and dryer (who wants to go home with a suitcase full of dirty clothes to launder?) and detergent.

The yard was absolutely wonderful. Plan on spending lots of time enjoying the hammock and firepit if you have nice weather during your stay. And with the bounty of goodies (smores fixins!) left by the owner, you really have to make a fire at least one night, regardless of the temperature. There's a garage with an automatic door opener, a basketball hoop, horseshoes and a play area perfect for kids.

Also be sure to visit some of the areas suggested by the owner. Even with all of the grandeur we experienced, our favorite moments were those spent exploring the Forest Service Roads and hiking Sycamore Canyon Vista.

A huge thanks to Dawn and family for sharing their beautiful home. We made so many happy memories that will be carried with us always.
