There is complete privacy yet on the other hand there are neighbors close by. If you are looking for a more active time away from home, butterfly farms, volcanoes rain forests, river rafting, horseback riding, are all an easy drive.

If you want to hang ten or simply stroll on the pristine Costa Rica Beaches or swim in the warm Pacific water of famous surfing beaches like Jaco and Playa Hermosa which are only 45 minutes away.

About diana baron

I am a mom, business owner, and i grew up in a large family in Los Angeles. I love Latin culture, the kindess, the food, the love of family, and the appreciation of nature.

Why diana baron chose Atenas

More than ten years ago, my son had a 'foreign country' experience during high school right in this tiny town of Costa Rica. While visiting him, his art teacher showed me this area, where at the time there were no houses, and basically a wild hill overlooking the valley. i felt at that moment i had found 'my place' on this earth, like the character in Carlos Castenada speaks about. So, i bought the land. It took me two years to find the right designer and builder to work with, whose aesthetic i appreciated and who understood mine. The designer was an American woman so she had experienced the many conveniences in homes that other builders here didn't - lots of closets, lots of drawers and storage in the kitchen etc. Her husband Fred was my builder and he used a crew headed by Lumberto to build the house. Fred & LInda have moved back tothe states, but i still work with Lumberto on upgrades and in face Jaime, who worked on my crew, is my caretaker. They know every square inch of this place and feel a part of it too.

What makes this house unique

I am writing this while sitting in the swing chair on the veranda over looking the valley. I can hear the Tucans croaking in the tree below and the sound of birds in the morning is beautiful. My neighbors cows are just now making their way to the river below. i've already taken a walk through mango fields and coffee fields. I brought some carrots with me todayy to feed some of the horses I see along the way. i make my way during the day from here, to the rocking chairs, to the hammock to the lounge chairs, etc. while checking the news in the States.

Families welcome, but no children under 5. There are a few stairs to get from driveway to the house, but the house itself is on one level. we have had plenty of active older guests stay at the house and be completely comfortable. the house will be cleaned when you arrive and once a week if your stay is longer than a week. However, you may wish daily maid service for an additional $30.00 per day. the house also has a complete wifi set up, and you can work and not tell your colleagues you are in Costa Rica.

Suited our every need.....

  • 5 of 5

This house and destination were perfect. Hard to add anything that hasn’t been said already. Previous reviews say it all. We have just returned from the most restful vacation. The town of Atenas had everything we needed. The people warm and friendly. The location is great for so many of the beautiful places to be seen in Costa Rica, but was more than happy to stay at the house and just relax. The house had all we needed, many areas to sit and take in the magnificent views. The house and location will not disappoint. Would love to return and probably will. Thank you Diana for renting out your home so others can enjoy.

Owner's Response: HI Barbara, I am so glad that our home made for your perfect vacation!!! Atenas IS warm and friendly and so close - and yet the five min it takes to get there seems so far since our house is so private. I'm on my way tomorrow and i can't wait to get back to paradise - and i do hope we can find a perfect time for you to return. The great thing about coming a different month each time is that there is always something different in bloom! Pura Vida, Diana

If never-ending views are what you dream of...

  • 5 of 5

We love the end-of-the-road experience when we travel as it usually lends to the most magnificent views. Diana's home, however, was by far the most idyllic we have ever visited. The pictures do not do her home justice, nor do they capture the captivating sounds of this rural setting. Each morning we awoke to the gentle voices of cows, roosters and an endless array of beautiful birds. Cows would literally meander curiously only steps beyond the property boundaries. And not to be overlooked, the surrounding fauna was breathtaking. The home itself is spacious and well-maintained with a wonderfully private layout. Set in a small gated community, the Atenas city center was only a 5-7 minute drive, though we preferred to walk the hilly area each morning (approximately 30 minutes). Leticia, the property manager, was absolutely wonderful to work with - a true asset. We hope to return again and would highly recommend.

Our first time in Costa Rica....but certainly not the last

  • 5 of 5

Amazing ! That is the word that best summarizes our stay here. The entire booking process with Diana was absolutely seamless and we were greeted so warmly upon our arrival. The location is simply perfect. The view is breathtaking...taking our morning coffee on the balcony was just one of our favourite things to do. We were 2 adults & 3 teenagers and everyone was comfortable. Everybody loved the house, the pool, the weather, etc. We always felt safe. My deepest wish is to return soon as there are so many things to see in Costa Rica. And staying here was just one of the highlights of our trip. Thank you Diana. I am very grateful we landed on your property as this is where we began our Costa Rican adventure. Next time, we will stay longer, for sure. Pura vida.

A piece of paradise on the side of a breathtaking mountain

  • 5 of 5

How do I start to describe our amazing experience in Atenas?? It was perfect in every way! Diana's stunning home perched high up on the mountain offered us everything we had been hoping for. Beauty, peace, relaxation, complete privacy, amenities, no humidity, and the perfect temperature. Her home is the perfect distance from town and we took advantage of this by heading in to have some of the most delicious dinners! Pizza, salmon, chicken, crepes for dessert! You will never starve in Atenas!! There are so many aspects of this home to experience that it was hard to decide where to sit, nap, read, do yoga, enjoy the view, get some sun, eat, have our morning coffee, have our afternoon cocktail! So many beautiful options. We also used the steep driveway as part of our workouts. Running up and doing other exercise moves on the incline was an incredible way to start the day! The town, as well as having many restaurants to choose from, also has a very convenient and well stocked grocery store and liquor store. That is where we first met Leticia, Diana's property manager, on the day we arrived. After doing a little shopping we followed her to Villa Pica Flora where she showed us around the incredible place we had rented. We were in awe!! We had wanted to do some day trips while we were there and Diana directed us to a beautiful waterfall, Las Charros, which I hope I've spelt correctly. It was a very nice hike to the falls and not a busy, touristy place. She also suggested some hot springs that we did as a day trip as well. They were beautiful!! And again kind of off the beaten path and more of a local place and not touristy. There were maybe 12 other people there at the max during our visit. There was a swim up bar there so we ordered a couple drinks and pizza for lunch. Another perfect day!! We also drove to the beach for another day trip. Every morning we woke to the musical sounds of the birds outside. The home is in a gated community and the two bedrooms are separate buildings from the living/kitchen building. The pool is overlooking the mountains and is in front the guest bedroom suite and beside the living/kitchen building which provides total privacy around the pool. But privacy isn't a concern anywhere in this stunning home. We rented a car from Dollar and had absolutely no problems at all with that company. We felt incredibly safe in Costa Rica the entire time we were there. The people are so friendly and welcoming!

Truly Breathtaking & Unbeatable View!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in 2 very nice houses in Atenas in the same neighborhood and you definitely cannot beat this view with any rental we saw (both in person & as an option on here). If you want the absolute best VIEW on your stay this is for sure the rental for you! It really is the best view you can possibly get! The house is totally private & yet still very safe. It's the very last house, in a gated community with no neighbors, on either side or close by, which coming from the heart of Hollywood was is exactly what we wanted! Couple of warnings: One of the bedrooms only has an outdoor shower (very fun to use! but it is outdoors if that bugs you) and both bedrooms are not connected to the main house unit. This adds TONS of privacy for 2 adult couples who might be staying or a couple with responsible adolescent to teen kids, but may not be ideal for those with really little kids (6 years & under) who need a lot of supervision and a different room to sleep in, as the rooms are separated by the main house (one on each side of the main house) so they are a bit further apart than being side by side. It for sure has some of the best internet in Costa Rica, but best internet in Costa Rica means 2mb, versus the 500mb internet many of us are accustom to in the U.S. This is 100% standard for Costa Rica as internet here is very expensive, so if you're looking to work while you stay & that work depends on super fast internet speeds, this is 100% normal & we didn't find anywhere with internet faster than this during our stay in Atenas. There is no TV, but with this view who needs it! The decor of the house is impeccable! So well thought out, detailed and gorgeous. We went during rainy season and LOVED watching the storms (both rainy and purely just lightening storms) from inside where all the doors opened to make inside living join seamlessly with the great outdoors. It's close enough to town to make driving back and forth a breeze, but not an easy breezy walk to town, so having a rental car is pretty essential. We also quickly learned in rainy season that having the cheapest Hyundai (non-jeep, non-4 wheel drive) car rental was not idea as the hill to the house is a bit steep and a bit slick in the rain, however the hill was also an amazing walk for exercise which was a peaceful and pleasant morning ritual for me & if you're interested in a private massage at the house, just ask! There is a wonderful and affordable kind woman who comes and we got one every other day!
