Wendy and Chuck are longtime residents of Santa Barbara and Big Bear California. We are happy to share our love of these areas with guests. In fact, that is what makes being vacation rental owners of six properties and managing them ourselves so rewarding. We have made many happy memories in all of our properties (we have lived in each one of them) and can share all the special features and local ideas with guests.
We love gardening, biking, walks on the beach and spending time with our own family which includes three grown children and five grandchildren and a great granddaughter on the way
Wendy Rockwood purchased this cottage in 1986
Craftsman Cottage is a tucked away jewel in downtown Santa Barbara. Down a private driveway, this is an off-street location, not attached to any other property. Enclosed by hedges and greenery there is a tremendously private feel and quiet setting. A sunny open porch make relaxing the great Santa Barbara weather a pleasure
Featuring outdoor and indoor dining areas there is plenty of room to stretch out. Families with young children love that the yard can be gated giving toddlers a great outdoor play area. Oak Park is a close walk with more for kids.
With having a direct relationship with the owner/manager you will deal with one person from your booking to any necessary details during your stay.
Couples love the romantic setting of the cottage decor and the fireplace right under the great large screen TV in the living room.'
A true retreat from which to begin your Santa Barbara adventures.
“The cottage was such a restful and beautiful space. We really enjoyed our time there and the enclosed yard area (with a cluster of trees in the back) was perfect for our family with small children. Wendy was an amazing host and great communicator and even helped us find a baby sitter! It was a mile or so to the part of State Street with lots of shops and restaurants but there other restaurants that are closer. And the beds are comfortable! We would definitely return. ”
We were so pleased with this beautiful cottage in Santa Barbara. When we went down the driveway, we were thrilled to see how private and secluded the house was. The location is also excellent. We were able to walk everywhere in Santa Barbara- all along State Street, out to the pier, and along the beach- before returning to enjoy the peace and tranquility that the cottage had to offer. I highly recommend this delightful cottage to anyone visiting Santa Barbara!
Overall, we had a fine stay. The property is adequately furnished, though there were several minor things: a light hanging down in a kitchen cabinet, a loose shower curtain rod, a hair in the tub/shower from the previous occupant, wet bath and kitchen mats washed just prior to our arrival. But our biggest challenge with the cottage was the heat. The days we spent in Santa Barbara were quite warm. The cottage did not cool down in the evenings (only the bedroom windows had screens). We were gone during the days, so the cottage reached 89 degrees inside. Even with 69 degrees outside and fans going with doors and windows open, the cottage did not cool below 79 by 11pm. Screens on other windows may not be necessary in the daytime, but at night we didn't want to attract bugs with open windows and lights on inside. How about more screens? Especially to give a cross-draft to cool off the house. I don't know how often it gets this warm in Santa Barbara, but for our stay, it was too warm.
Great house. Great location. We enjoyed the privacy that the house provided offset from the road. Can't wait to rent again.
Real homely feel, nicely appointed and a lovely quiet neighbourhood but only minutes from everything you will need in Santa Barbara. Little things, often unnoticed or commented upon - real quality bedding and a super comfy bed, deep pile in the carpets and heaps of quality towels - it's the little touches that a make a difference and a stay memorable from others. Thank You.
The cottage was great. Satisfied all our needs. I will book it again if we are in Santa Barbara. Thanks Wendy!

Santa Barbara is a beach community with beaches, pier, sailing, swimming, whale watching and a vibrant cultural life of theatre, events, museums and a beautiful small zoo. It is unique because there are also close mountains that offer hiking, wine tasting and a nearby lake for fishing. Known as the 'American Riviera', it is known for its Spanish architecture, and the beauty of the landscape. The semi tropical climate has led many to say it is similar in appearance to Hawaii with so many varieties of trees and vegetation that are spectacular. Fine dining options abound as well as a vibrant downtown with great shopping. There are even islands close by that are protected sanctuaries that make a great day trip. Santa Barbara is the perfect vacation destination!
