Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Cedar Key - The Foxwell House

2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, will accomodate up to 4 people.

The Foxwell House has all been updated yet the true Florida Cracker Style feeling is maintained. It is close to everything, including fishing, museums, art shops, great seafood restaurants and quiet tranquility.

A completely restored home in the heart of Cedar Key, you can walk the entire time you are here, no need for a car. The grocery store is a scant 5 minute walk, the nearest restaurants are only 500 feet, and the nearest birdwatching is right out your back door, sitting on the LARGE open deck.

Ideally appointed for two couples with two bedrooms, both with queen beds, and a shared bath with connecting doors to each bedroom. Equipped for a short stay or longer ones, the home has a laundry porch in the front. Walk into the home and the front two rooms are the bedrooms because we wanted to keep the VIEW for the living area. At the back of the home is a large 'great room' with fully appointed kitchen, a bath, and the living area with satellite TV and wireless internet. You may never be there though because the room opens onto our covered porch and then an open deck, perched on the edge of the Back Bayou, where we spend most of our time. Almost a 'secret garden', the back of the home is shaded by one of only three bald cypress on the islands of Cedar Key. The bird life here is astounding, from egrets to herons to ospreys and even a bald eagle or two. You are perched behind the mangroves while on the deck and porch. The mangrove is a protected species, so while they partially block the view, they are also home to what makes Cedar Key unique, the myriad wildlife of tidal basins and marshes.

Fully equipped, you need bring only groceries, and if you forget, the local grocery store is only two blocks.

We have satellite TV and DSL so you can stay in touch while you are 'getting away from it ALL'. We have local phone service, incoming calls only, in the event your cell phone doesn't work in Cedar Key (and they often do not) or just use our excuse-'I'm sorry, my signal was bad'.

Come for the solitude, the quiet, the recharge you so desperately want and NEED. We won't tell anyone that you really could have answered that email.

There is a sofa in the living room and air mattress if you have smaller people and with the second bath located in the back part of the house, the house can easily accommodate additional people. We supply all the necessary linens and there are plenty of blankets, etc. for the sofa.

The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, pots and pans, glasses and coffee mugs for six. We have a microwave, coffee maker, a full size electric range, in short, all the comforts of home, but IN Cedar Key.

We are pet friendly, and have small crates to save you having to bring your own. We ask that you bring proof of flea treatment with you. The yard is fenced, but we all know our furry friends can find the smallest escape routes; please bring a leash.

Cleaning fee of $50, waived for monthly rentals.

Great place to stay and Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in the foxwell house multiple times over the past few years for our annual Fishing trips to CK. Every year it's been a great experience.

Jennie is courteous, and always a pleasure to work with.

The house is always well kept and furnished, and being that I grew up in an "ol' cracker style house", the feel of wood floors under my feet - was like home.

It's usually just my fiancé and myself so the house has always been very spacious for the two of us. This year; her sister and our brother in-law stayed with us for the weekend. With 4 people (2bed 2 bathroom) was perfect. Fishing in Cedar Key is always wonderful so the trip was a blast. (Plenty of room to park a boat out front.)

The house is located very close to Annie's Dinner a short 3min walk for some great breakfast before heading to the ramps.

Definitely recommend The Foxwell house to anyone wanting to get away in Cedar Key and exsprience some good ol' Florida livin'.

Wonderfully relaxing place to enjoy Cedar Key.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was very clean, roomy, accommodating and centrally located. This property just as stated an 'old cracker house'. There have been many updates made including the kitchen and both bathrooms making it a very comfortable place to stay. The bath is a wonderful addition, be careful however with the shower wand as it has a lot of pressure and can soak the bathroom quickly if your not careful (read the cabin info sheet upon arrival). I also found out the hard way that the bathtub overflow drain is not connected causing the bathroom floor to get soaked.

The neighbors were quiet and the master bed is indeed extremely comfortable. The 2nd bed is pretty firm.

We walked everywhere and thoroughly enjoyed being able to do that.

It would be great if we could have accessed the dock, however that was not a big deal as there is water in all directions and a great access spot just a couple short blocks away near the end of the road. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return to the island soon.

Owner's Response: Jeff-Thank you! It is a comfortable house, and the master bedroom is almost "decadent" with the sating comforters and all those pillows. So glad you enjoy the "real Florida" Cracker style of the house! Hope to see you again SOON!
