In 2015, we completed a major bathroom remodel, which produced a magnificent large master bathroom plus a new powder room, bringing the total number of toilets in the home to 3. Check out the photos on the VRBO website.
In 2014, we completed a courtyard, which adds an outdoor living room and dining room, with tile fountain and fire pit. We also redecorated the living room. We still need to update the photos of both and also plan on doing this later this month.
In 2013, we completed a major kitchen/dining room+ remodel, which is magnificent (see photos). The remodel includes a gorgeous gourmet kitchen/dining room with lots of charm and all new high-end appliances.
These remodels have not only maintained but enhanced the charming details of this 1930's Spanish style house, including vaulted ceilings, arches, and hardwood floors.
There is a massive king bed in the master bedroom and a trundle bed in each of the other 2 bedrooms. Both trundle beds can open to a comfortable king size bed.
The house and backyard feel very peaceful and secluded even though it is very centrally located.
The backyard is great to entertain with a solar-heated pool, a gorgeous spanish tile patio and beautiful fruit trees: a large mango tree (rare for California), a lemon tree, orange trees, different varieties of palm trees, etc. Hummingbirds seem to prefer the front yard planted with cactus, palm trees, and several southwestern plants.
The pool is heated by solar panels all year long. The climate is ideal: it rarely gets cooler than 60 and warmer than 85 degrees Fahrenheit. There is central air conditioning and heating but neither is needed more than 30 days a year thanks to the usually perfect weather.
The neighborhood is safe and family friendly with lots of great restaurants and shops within walking distance.
Note that there is no TV/Cable at all in the house. There is a home theater system with a brand new projector and large projection screen in the living room. You can stream Netflix, Amazon or iTunes from the Apple TV.
A premium 'Sonos' sound system is installed throughout the house and connected to a Rhapsody music service (like Spotify). You can control the music throughout the house using any smartphone or tablet.

We are a family of 4 with 2 kids, born in 2001 and 2004, respectively. Abigail is a Professor of Sociology at UCLA and Dotan is a high-tech entrepreneur. We moved to LA from New York in 2002 and bought the house in 2003. We love the neighborhood: short walking distance to shops, schools, restaurants, movie theaters, and even a golf course, yet it feels clam and secluded if you walk into the backyard and soak in the pool. We get along great with all our neighbors and are quite social with many of them.

We love our home and enjoy sharing it with others while we travel.
We have done three massive remodels, including a open kitchen/dining room, spacious courtyard, and new bathroom + powder room. In all of our remodels, we have kept the old Spanish feel and added new charm and details. People tell us that our house is a 'little jewel.'
The house is in an incredible location: Despite feeling like a peaceful oasis inside, the house is a short walk from some of LA's best restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. Just 50 yards down the street is a trendy cafe/restaurant called FOOD. Several other cool West LA spots are a little further down the street within short walking distance.
It is also only 5 miles from the beautiful Santa Monica beach and historic pier (takes less than 15 minutes by car on week-ends). UCLA is less than 2 miles away. Shopping wise, it is less than a mile away from both the Westside Pavilion (Macy's, Nordstrom, Landmark Movie Theater, etc.) and the Century City mall (Bloomingdale's, Tiffany's, Apple Store, The Container Store, etc.). For entertainment, there are at least 10 movie theaters within a 3-mile radius including the huge AMC Century City and the state of the art Landmark which you can easily walk to. A few theaters like the Geffen Playhouse are also close by. As far as city parks go, the house is only a block away from Rancho Park, which includes many tennis courts, an 18 holes golf course with driving range, a playground, an Olympic size swimming pool, an archery range, etc.
We have stayed in this lovely home twice now in the past five years.
It was very nice 5 years ago and has gotten even better with renovation of the kitchen, bathroom and front courtyard.

The house is an absolute peaceful retreat when you need it and close to most places you would want to visit.
The outdoor spaces are great in the summer, with several seating options to choose from depending on the time of day. The pool is a great asset, good size and heated which is nice even in the summer time. Lovely landscaping all around. We saw the hummingbirds!
Tastefully decorated interior, more than sufficient space with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. Kitchen with enough equipment and utensils.
Nice neigbourhood with great food options around the corner for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and good coffee(!). Shopping mall down the street and access to main connecting streets to anywhere in LA.
Access to the beach is even easier now with the metro Expo line going to Santa Monica (It also goes to vibrant Downtown LA, but did not try that direction).
As has been said: it is like staying in a friend's home rather than a furnished rental.
Reluctant to write this review because the house is available for a limited time every year and we don't want to miss out the next time we are in the area...but have to recommend it to anyone who visits LA!
Our family of four (kids aged 10 and 13) stayed in this lovely home for a week while visiting nearby relatives, and we could not have been happier or more comfortable.
Pre-arrival, Abigail was an extremely prompt and helpful correspondent, making sure that the arrangements were taken care of quickly and efficiently. She also provided us with clearly written and exhaustively detailed documentation about every aspect of the house - including spot-on advice about neighborhood restaurants, stores, etc.
The house is located on a quiet side-street off of a major crosstown artery, perfectly located for any westside activities and providing easy access to destinations beyond, with many amenities within ridiculously easy walking distance (no small thing in LA!) and the rest no more than a few minutes' drive away.
Upon arriving, we knew we had struck gold: A front yard beautifully landscaped with succulents; an equally beautiful courtyard with a fire pit, fountain, and hammocks. And the house itself completely surpassed our expectations - as several other commenters have mentioned, it is even lovelier than the very lovely pictures would suggest.
The kitchen/dining area is absolutely amazing - spacious and inviting, and stocked with everything a serious cook could possibly want. The living room is stylish and cozy, with a terrific projection system and pull-down screen for watching films (NB: there's no TV; not a problem for us, but could be for some), as well as a high-end electronic piano -- much appreciated by my wife, a professional musician. The bedrooms are large, with ample storage space and shockingly comfortable beds (we were all a little sorry to leave those behind!). The master bath is terrific - bright and airy, with a deep claw-foot tub and a "rain shower" - and the smaller baths were just as pleasant. And the entire house is beautifully decorated and immaculately clean.
The backyard is lovely, as well - we were desperately hoping to take advantage of the large and deep pool, the hot tub, and the very comfortable-looking seating area - but alas, it was a bit too chilly.
Best of all, for us: the entire time, we were very much aware that we were not in just a house, but a home, filled with warmth and graciousness, and alive with the Saguy family's personality; though we've never met, it was more like staying at the home of close friends than at a rental property. Every time we opened the front door, it felt like coming home. We'll be back!
We had a great adventure in LA and it was awesome to come back every night to a calm relaxed neighbourhood. We stayed for 7 nights. This is a comfortable home, with Spanish vibe. Lots of room for four adults. The kitchen and dining room were homey and welcoming after a long day exploring LAs many sites. But the warm pool soaks at nights were the best relief for tired souls and feet. This property had everything we needed and more! We easily accessed (by car) Santa Monica, Hollywood, San Diego, Griffith Park ,downtown and Dodger Stadium. There were many cool restaurants around, but we were unable to partake in them due to our schedules. We did sneak a bite at the Subway tho, and ordered scrumptious pizza through grub hub when we were too exhausted to go out anywhere. Abigail was easy to reach and deal with. She even provided a detailed guide of the house and area which was helpful to get staples at the beginning of the vacation. We had no issues at all. If you want a quiet retreat in a busy city, this is for you. Thanks for sharing your home with us!
We stayed here for a week and loved it. The home is in excellent condition and looks exactly like the photos. Property owners were the nicest couple and helped with any questions we had about California considering this was our first visit. The pool and all the landscaping was beautiful as well. The location was just perfect for our family. It was in walking just minutes from shopping and the beach. I would recommend this property to anyone. We were just minutes from Malibu, Santa Monica, and Venice beach. The restaurants nearby were awesome. Thanks Again Abigail for everything.
A great little Gem that's very central for any Northern L.A.; Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Malibu, exploration. The reviews were actually quite helpful and we thought that they were informative about shops and restaurants in the area. Everything about the house is great and the pool is above expectations especially as our stay was in the Summer. The front garden and outdoor firetable are super touches and really add to the useable living space of the home.
As a base for L.A., Santa Monica, Malibu, Beverly Hills and Hollywood it's hard to beat the location. Olympic and Santa Monica Blvd make travel as quick and easy as it could be in L.A. :-) . The restaurants of Melrose Ave. are interesting and popular ( we saw Papparazzi there when we ate out, it was quite humerous ). The local restaurants and coffee shop is great and there's great shopping at the mall just down the road. We had a great time and found it both exciting and relaxing, that's about as good as it gets :-) .
