The 10,000 square foot Castino Lakeview Mansion sits high atop a bluff with breathtaking views of Lake Michigan. It's just steps down to the expansive beach and marina view, with sand volleyball nets and fire pits. The house combines the feel of yesteryear's opulence with all the modern amenities. The home was built in 1912 by a coal and shipping baron JP Reiss on the Great Lakes, and he spared no expense. The features include mahogany trim, barreled dining room ceiling, and ornamental plasters, along with iron, stone and brickwork. There are 9 bedrooms in the main house, including a variety of bunks and sleeper sofas, so it can comfortably sleep a combination of children and adults up to a total of 24. (There are two additional bedrooms in the coach house also available for rent, including a bath, kitchen and family room.) The main house has 9 bathrooms, 11 fireplaces, 11 flat screen TV's, Wi-Fi and an outdoor patio fire table. There is a full kitchen (plus a kitchenette on the third floor), along with a gas grill on the veranda overlooking Lake Michigan, the beach and the lighthouse on the point.
The lower level is a playground for young and old, including a full mahogany bar, foosball, ping pong, billiards, plus laundry facilities. There's no need to ever leave the house, the grounds nor the beach.
But if you want to venture out...There's plenty to do in Sheboygan, selected as the number one place to raise a family in America by Bloomberg's Business Week and Reader's Digest. It's also known as the 'Malibu of the Midwest,' and Surf Sheboygan is an appropriate motto! Wind surfing, yolo boarding, kite surfing, motor boating, sailing, charter fishing and good old fashioned swimming are great ways to take advantage of Mother Nature's gift. Want to go exploring by water? We have 4 kayaks available for your use. Three blocks south on the lakefront is an exceptional YMCA, and a mile down on the lakefront is an indoor water park with day passes available year round. Near the water park is a row of boutiques, and across the way is the river walk, with restaurants/bars, shops and fishermen (and their catches) galore.
Heading west from the mansion is the quaint yet full-service town of Sheboygan. The Weil Performing Arts Center, the Kohler Art Center and a fabulous children's museum are just a brisk walk away. Plenty of fine dining options as well as pub grub are also within walking distance and certainly within biking distance. We have 6 bikes on the premises for your use, with additional bikes available through local rental shops. Hiking at the Kohler State Park is another active endeavor, along with cross country skiing on the trails in town or at the Kettle Moraine State Park Trails.
If GOLF is your thing, this is the place for you! Our location is extremely convenient for accessing world class golf, including The American Club at Kohler, The Bull and Whistling Straits. Road America Racing in Elkhart Lake is nearby. And the list goes on! The bottom line is that there is plenty to do, with a welcoming, charming and relaxing home to return to at night. You can throw burgers on the grill, order out for pizza, or hire a local chef to cater your meals for the ultimate in relaxation.
There's something for everyone--from swimming to golf, from spas to sports! You'll feel like royalty as well as right at home at the mansion. Come enjoy this unique get-away with family, on a corporate retreat, with your golfing buddies--the possibilities are endless!

Hailing from the Chicago suburbs but getting closer and closer to that empty nest time in our lives, my husband and I had started thinking about what and where our next chapter might be. We have run a home services business on Chicago's North Shore for over 30 years, everything from painting to carpentry to carpet cleaning. But as our youngest approaches the end of her high school years, we've been talking about semi-retiring while still keeping busy enough to keep ourselves out of trouble and being able to put the third daughter through college. One wedding down with two to go means that we aren't quite ready to sit back and knit baby booties yet.
Chris Castino purchased this estate in 2013
So one fateful weekend last summer, after seeing one daughter off on a mission service trip and another off to a quarter of studying abroad (a flurried week of preparation!) we thought we'd treat ourselves to a quick get-away. My husband dug out an old flyer on a Bed and Breakfast from his files, and off we headed to Sheboygan. Not only did we enjoy our stay immensely, we noticed the For Sale sign. After several cocktails, we were convinced that buying this was the right thing to do! Of course, we had to discuss it again the next morning. Hmmm. We still liked the idea. Our second night out to dinner reignited the burning desire to pursue it. Yes, we were still interested the next morning. We hurried home to crunch some numbers. Our friends and family (and banker) all thought we were nuts--, but the next thing we knew we were making an offer on the mansion. Not only did the house call to us, but the area evokes such a peaceful and less harried lifestyle. We've made several trips there in the meantime, and continue to fall more and more in love with the area. My husband, an avid golfer, is just drooling to get out on The Bull, Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits. I might have to take up golf if I ever hope to see him again. In the meantime, I'm going to have a blast putzing around this amazing home and making it our own. The previous owners took a masterpiece that had gotten rundown and transformed it into a showcase some years ago. It's stunning! We have plans to finish the basement, turning it into a full tavern/rec-room/playroom. We can't wait for groups to enjoy it together. We look forward to moving up here full-time when our gal flies the coop but until then we will be enjoying the view, the town and the many fun things the area has to offer. I still can't believe that a spur of the moment trip to a place that happened to have availability has sent us this direction. I toyed with naming the place SERENDIPITY, but Lakeview Mansion says it all!
The views can't be duplicated, the proximity to everything you could want to do makes getting around so easy, and the house itself is beyond description. I feel like I jumped in a time machine and ended up as royalty. Even the carriage house apartment above the garage (formerly the servants' quarters) is oozing with charm. There are so many areas to curl up with a good book, enjoy a cup of coffee, hang out with friends and family, or play games. You can stay together but keep your own schedules, given the privacy and the layout of the home. If you want to sleep in--go for it. Grandma might be in the kitchen whipping up pancakes for the gang as the partiers stagger up from the bar. Into research? What a great excuse to eat and drink your way through Sheboygan and the surrounding area!
Lakeview mansion gets two thumbs up, waaay up!!! This home was more than just a place for friends and family of the wedding to sleep. It served as a rendez vous point and sheer entertainment for EVERYONE! There was no need to gather people at a local bar, this house included more entertainment then you could find at any Sheboygan establishment! Never did you feel crowded or as if you were in someones way. There was always room to spare. The game room/bar area downstairs were utilized 24/7. Along with the outdoor patio space. This house offered every type of entertainment imaginable. Several guests enjoyed their first trip to Wisconsin by taking a dip in the lake. And weren't they surprised by the temperature, haha. All around it was a FANTASTIC time from start to finish. As if the stay couldn't have gotten better, on our last day we hosted a day after wedding brunch by Jackie Eigenberger for 50 persons. Annette from Lakeview Mansion assisted and everything was a HIT! Food and service were impeccable! I couldn't have asked for a more perfect home to house friends and family. It will be a memory to cherish for years to come! Thank you for a lovely stay. Cant wait to do it again!
Chris and Roger have an amazing home fully equipt with all the sleeping, cooking, relaxing, and playing essentials that you'll need for your friends and family. The mansion is spacious yet cozy. Delicate details make the home memorable - the most divine glass/serving ware, vintage furniture, wallpaper, and grandeur I've seen in Wisco. The outdoor space has a powerful heater, so we sat on the couches with coffee and cocktails all day long, even in the 40-50 degree weather. Very clean with all the extras that we needed for 30 people. My husband and I hosted a 30-person Sunday brunch wedding on the back patio - we couldn't have asked for a better space to meet our wishes. Stunning photos and a unique setting for all our favorite people. We can't wait to return for major anniversaries with our crew. Thank you, Castinos, for making our wedding and family reunion simply remarkable.
What a wonderful and unique place! Lots of treasures and rare items including a hidden underground tunnel that is part of a Halloween community tradition. Plenty of room to relax and share a glass of wine or sit by the outdoor fireplace and watch the sunset over the lake. Our wonderful hostess Chris entertained us with funny stories about it's history and some funny adventures that took place there. We all enjoyed the game room and sang karaoke to wee hours of the night. A great getaway!
The house is incredible - exquisitely appointed and decorated. I was looking for a place to house my 28 family members for a reunion for a few days. I had hoped that there would be a spot in the house where all of us could sit at one time and be together. Little did I know there are actually several spaces that can seat ~25: the dining room, the living room, the game room, and a huge outside patio. On top of this, there are multiple other rooms that seat anywhere from 2 to 10+ - so many that I can't really outline them all. There is always a place for 2 people to have a chat, 6 people to play a game, or 25 people to share a meal. We had a handfull of kids and they would completely disappear for hours on end - flashlight tag in the basement, baseball in the huge yard, walk to the beach, etc.
I wasn't sure what to expect the house would have, but other than food, you really don't have to bring anything. There are toys for the kids, games for the adults, a kitchen with nearly everything, and multiple refrigerators. We had no trouble sleeping 28, in fact, we had an unused bedroom and could have kept a couple more. (We rented the guest house also.)
This home exceeded our expectations in every way.
We celebrated our friends reunion at this property and I have to say that this was one of the best reunions we had and this house and its location played a big part in the success. The property easily hosted all of us with lot of room inside the house with spacious bedrooms and with lot of options to play indoor games ( Poker, Billiards, Ping Pong, Chess etc).
One of the things that we all liked is the privacy (especially when we are on the patio) along with beautiful views of Lake Michigan in the morning and in the evening. We also spent lot of time in the back yard playing flag foot ball and patio (cooking and drinking). Nice weather over the weekend also really helped us in enjoying the back yard and patio. The proximity to go to the beach (to play volley ball), YMCA ( walking distance) to play Basket Ball, racquet ball) are also good benefits from staying in the house.
Property owner Chris and Property Manager Lisa is always available to help us with any special requests and made sure that all of us had a great time while we are at the house. Thanks to both of them from all of us. Definitely one of the best house to have a party and we will consider coming back to the house in few years down the road.
There were 12 of us guys who stayed here while we played golf at Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run.
The property has great accommodations. We cooked in each night and used the large gas grill on the back patio. There is this great fire pit and overhead heaters in one corner of the back patio where we congregated each evening before and after dinner. Beautiful view of the Lake from the back porch where we congregated each morning with our coffee.
Although a couple of the bedrooms are minimal, there are 10 separate bedrooms so each guy (except two) could have his separate room/bed. Great game room downstairs, although we didn't use it much and instead enjoyed the back patio.
Owners were very helpful and easy to work with as was the property manager who promptly dealt with a couple of minor issues (propane tanks and how to light the fire pit).
Near Kohler, WI, enjoy the golf and amenities there while taking advantage of our beach bluff location. Perfect for guys' golf get-aways, couples weekends, girls' trips, reunions, etc. A wide variety of things to do will satisfy a huge variety of personalities--if you can tear yourself away from the gorgeous house itself!
From a grand piano down to bocce, there's plenty to keep you happy on-site. If you feel like venturing out, take our 4 kayaks out onto the lake or ride our 10 bikes to town. From volleyball nets on the beach to fine dining, a performing arts center, an arts center, a children's museum, bike trails, cross country trails, etc etc you won't have a chance to get bored no matter what the season. And the kids won't complain!
