Premium Sullivan's Island Beachfront Condo, 15 minutes to Charleston

Bedrooms 2
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Ground Floor Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4), Large Screened Porches

Welcome to 'Seaglass Serenity'... Incredible location.... Beachfront at the mouth of Charleston Harbor, this charming ground floor condominium has views of both the Atlantic Ocean and Charleston Harbor.

The wide sandy beach is ideal for sunbathing, swimming, fishing, or launching small sailboats. The National Park Service and the Town of Sullivan's Island maintain over a mile of undeveloped, protected beach and maritime forest adjacent to the property where you can have undisturbed strolls on the beach. The condo is immediately next door to Fort Moultrie, a National Historic Site with museum and tours, that played significant roles in both the Revolutionary War and Civil War. Fort Sumter, site of the first conflict of the Civil War, can be seen across the harbor. The main channel into Charleston lies nearby, allowing clear views of every ship passing into or out of the harbor. Dolphins play just off shore.

This condo is one of four individually owned units that were originally built as Army Nurse's quarters circa 1910, and are the only vacation rental beachfront condominiums on Sullivan's Island. This unique historic property preserves the charm of the hundred year old structure, but this unit has been renovated and professionally decorated to appeal to today's traveler. The condominium features large front and back screened porches with ceiling fans, rocking chairs, swing, and dining area. The remodeled back porch features a Charleston Bed Swing. Inside, the original hardwood floors give the condominium the feel of an old Southern beach cottage, while providing all modern amenities including flat panel HDTVs (2), stereo with iPod dock, and Wi-Fi. The ground floor location allows easy access with parking only a few steps away. The condo has two bedrooms with the beach-side bedroom having a queen bed, while the rear bedroom has two singles.

Sullivan's Island provides a location that is quiet, uncrowded, with a very relaxed lifestyle. There is not a single traffic light on the island. The island is primarily residential; yet it has several excellent restaurants, post office, library, art gallery, and small grocery store within a mile of the condo. The three mile long island is perfect for exploring by bicycle or golf cart. Public tennis courts and playground are just down the street. One of the beauties of this quiet oceanfront paradise is that it is only a 15 minute drive from historic downtown Charleston and even closer to the shopping and dining areas of Mount Pleasant.

*This is a Saturday-Saturday, weekly only, rental from 5/16/15 to 8/29/15; 3 night minimum in off season. *

About Laura Wall

We are a family of four from Atlanta who have been vacationing in the Charleston area and South Carolina Low Country for many years. We have come to enjoy the Charleston area best of all. We find the combination of Southern Charm, history, shopping, and excellent food compelling. Now that we have an anchor at Sullivan's Island, we are happy to share the beautiful, quiet beach; access to wonderful local restaurants -- especially seafood; friendly locals; historic Ft. Moultrie, Ft. Sumter (viewed from our condo), the beautiful ships coming into Charleston Harbor; and historic, authentic, Charleston!

Laura Wall purchased this condo in 2008

Why Laura Wall chose Sullivan's Island

We wanted a beachfront location that was free of crowds, quiet and relaxing, yet close to excellent dining and entertainment. We enjoy the history of Charleston from the old rice plantations to the fine pre-revolutionary city homes. Charleston has a grace and charm that few American cities possess. From the performances of the Spoleto Festival, the excellent antique shopping, the tours of historic sites, to the Shrimp boats and fishing charters on Shem Creek, Charleston captivates. Sullivan's Island provides easy access to all this, but seems a world away from the bustle.

What makes this condo unique

This is an extremely relaxing location, beachfront at the Charleston harbor entrance where dolphins play, and you get close up views of all the ships entering the harbor. The island is perfect for bicycle riding, has several excellent restaurants within a mile, and is loaded with history. Outdoor activities abound, from deep sea fishing, to wildlife tours of the salt march, to excellent golf on nearby Isle of Palms.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is our first time in the quaint Sullivan's Island. Your cottage fits in perfectly.

It takes us back in time, growing up, going to the coast of North Carolina. Being here - watching the cargo, cruise, and fishing boats - dolphins, seagulls - makes us long for that time again.

You have truly created such an inviting and well cared for place. The porch swings are such a bonus - the new sheets and comforter - the very adequate kitchen - made us want for nothing.

We wondered as we sat on the swings what so many topics have been discussed over the last 100 years here.

We want to come back when you are available and bring our 92 year old father - this would be perfect.

This was my second stay at Seaglass Serenity. This trip was memorable in so many ways and the place has such a wonderful energy about it. It is beautifully decorated, the kitchen is equipped with everything needed, and every single little bit of attention to detail was evident. I was there with my daughter who is expecting her second child and my granddaughter who is 5 1/2 years old. The weather kept predicting rain but it never happened. We enjoyed the fact that it was on the harbor side and easier to watch an active youngster in the water with no fear of her being knocked down by a large wave. The "magical" aspect of this location I believe is because the details are all done with the traveler in mind and done with a loving hand. We had the chance to renew, rejuvenate, and relax. This will be our last trip before the new addition to our family and we so enjoyed our stay. We highly recommend this property. Laura is quick to respond to any needs or questions. Thank you Laura and Bill for once again sharing your lovely beach house with us.

Wonderful, relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Seaglass in 2015 & had a wonderful time. Our second visit was everything we hoped for & more! The quaint condo and the peaceful, laid-back island, were just what we needed to relax & recharge! The condo has everything you could possibly need! Even during a torrential rainstorm, you can sit out on either the front or back enclosed porches, and still enjoy your stay.

We would highly recommend this condo for couples or a small family.

Both times we have visited, there have been little unforeseen glitches. Bill & Laura were excellent & took care of things quickly!!

We have been to many beaches & beach towns. Once you land on Sullivan's, and stay at Seaglass Serenity, you feel like you have been there all your life.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a nice review! You just need to come back more often, now. We all seem to feel at home here! It's interesting how many of our friends (who we have never met), write to find out how Seaglass Serenity fared during the occasional bad storms. And, so far, so good!! Laura

Our stay here brought back years of memories when we grew up here on Charleston's finest beaches!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for an excellent vacation on one of our favorite islands and our favorite view of Charleston's harbor. Being a history buff, my husband loved overlooking Fort Sumter and being next door to Fort Moultrie. I took a million photos of the cargo ships and boats that looked so close you could reach out and touch them. Cooking was effortless in the well-stocked kitchen complete with spices and plenty of pots and pans. The mattresses were very comfortable and clean, and that is probably the most important detail for us when we stay somewhere new. Thank you! Laura did a great job with shabby chic decor that reflected coastal living and charm. Bill and Laura have been wonderful communicating with us throughout our stay and beyond. We are so thankful to have found this quiet charming spot and have already booked it for time in 2019 when we come back home to Charleston!

Owner's Response: Sally and David - Thanks so much for your great review! It is gratifying that we are pleasing our guests with the accommodations we work so hard to prepare for you. And, any time there is anything you would like done differently -- we are always open to change or make improvements. This place resonates with quite a few locals, who even come for long weekends. It is hard to leave behind, for all of us! Look forward to your return visit this winter! Laura

Hope to make this an annual family tradition

  • 5 of 5

Entire family (including two teens) agreed this was the perfect spot to spend a week together. The rental is clean and has many conveniences that are nice to have shen traveling (coffee basket, hand soap, dish liquid soap etc...). It is beautifully decorated with a nice expansive collection of books about the area and written local authors. I even got to read one during our stay. The porch swing was my favorite spot, and I will miss it dearly. We enjoyed the perfectly appointed porchwhere we had breakfast and lunch while gazing at Fort Sumter, Morris Island lighthouse and the most beautiful sunsets. The food on the island is delicious, and we made it a daily routine to spend the day on the beach and then enjoy dinner at nearby Poe’s Tavern or Sullivan’s. We only wished we had more time there and all agreed we hope to go back next year to this rental.

Owner's Response: Thank you Heather! This is a great place to visit with your family on an annual basis. And, when you come back -- you will always find it in the best possible shape we can make happen. I enjoy the local books as well -- there are so many good authors from this area. And, I understand that one - Dorothea Benton Frank - has moved back onto the island, a little way down the street. Laura

Loved this place!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location and the setting of this place! The screened porches were our favorite spots for reading, resting, and watching the ships and boats pass in front of the condo. The tastefully decorated condo had everything we needed. Parking was right next to the condo which as another plus.
