Historic, tranquil, easy living retreat on the Neuse River

  • 5 of 5

This house has great amenities and historic details. Journey's End Cottage has the character that a true lover of history will enjoy. The outdoor shower, the kayaks, a weber grill, Pawley's Island hammock, crab pots and the 70 foot dock make this a destination that requires only your fishing pole or a good book.Terry has provided information about the area, places to go and things to seek while vacationing on the Neuse River. You may enjoy coming with friends or by yourself, but as far as retreats go, this historic cottage is tops.

Charming historic cottage in great waterfront location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the cottage to enjoy the waterfront and be close to the attractions in Beaufort, Cape Lookout, Atlantic Beach, and New Bern.

The cottage is charming and very homey and the property has a great pier. During our stay shared the pier with the couple in the other cottage adjoining this property, but it was nice getting to know them and each have the pier to ourselves at different times. We enjoyed taking the free car ferry down to Beaufort and locations to the South. To the east we enjoyed visiting Oriental where there are restaurants, galleries, and even inexpensive sail and powerboat rentals.

This is a great place to see the whole area from while still having the seclusion, peace, and privacy that is difficult to find in some of the busier local destinations.

The hostess and our interactions with her were very cordial and relaxed.

We hope visit again soon.

Quaint & Charming River Side Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Entering the cottage was like stepping back in time to when things were slower and life was simple! This place is perfect to just get away and enjoy time with family and friends fishing, talking porchside with a glass of lemonade, playing board games or curling up with a good book. This place is a no frills comfort home shared with travelers by a nice and responsive owner that will do everything possible to make your vacation pleasurable from booking to checkout.

Wind back the clock!

  • 5 of 5

Journey's End is the kind of peaceful retreat where time falls away as the nervous system lets go. My husband has a difficult time shifting from work mode into "play" or "relax" mode and this sweet river cottage did the trick over the course of the four days we were there. He spent much of his time lounging in the hammock reading/napping or sitting with me down at the dock. It was wonderful to see him so relaxed. I soaked up being immersed in nature - the two herons flying low past the dock as they came in for a landing, the swifts racing by at top speed, the bright green lizards darting about. We loved the outdoor shower where you can gaze at the deep blue sky while washing your hair. We brought food in to make our own meals as it is such a joy to sit in the screened in dining room area and have the long view out over the water. Even a simple meal is a feast with views like that! On week-ends, the golf course club house two blocks away has breakfast available, which was simple and tasty. Terry has created a very inviting, aesthetically pleasing cottage! She was responsive in all communications and so very helpful in making our get-a-way a delight in every way.

Sit on the pier, drink your cup of coffee and watch the sun coming up while swifts dart under and over the pier, or sip your glass of wine feeling the breezes waft over your face, listening to the waves lapping as you watch the sun set. Journey's End was the best choice for us and our grandchildren to sit back and enjoy the very best of nature with majestic birds flying overhead. The cottage? Step back into the history of this former fishing shack that belonged to Terry's family (And yes, there's still good fishing and crabbing even off the pier at Journey's End!) and that has been updated to be so very comfortable. Terry was communicative and is an excellent host anticipating one's every request. My wife and I have been to Journey's End several times and look forward to our next visit (with or without the grands!).
